Flatulence?

Anyways I too am wondering why Bioware continually visits this subject yet always FAILS at delivering anything substantial involving it.

Here's a few reasons I can think of, at any rate...

1) Sex is part of a "mature" game. You can become involved with the story on a personal level and the romances feel a bit more in-depth (I'm not saying romance is all about sex, don't set fire to that particularly flammable statement).

2) I think it was Eric Bischoff who said "Controversy creates cash". The man's a loon and an all around lesser human being, but the statement has some ring of truth about it (especially when you look at the huge scandal - and subsequent sales figures - of Modern Warfare 2's opening scene, which despite being skippable and not actually having to do anything is STILL being attacked as some kind of Terrorists'R'Us simulator).

3) Bioware obviously noticed that it was a popular addition with the original Mass Effect and it's only snowballed from there. Bioware love to skim their social forums and romance has become a big part of their "game template".

4) If it isn't in the original games, mods will come out making versions that are ten times worse. If those get to the media, it doesn't matter whether or not it's user generated content or not. Shitstorm ensues. I'm not saying that players won't still make nudity patches, cutscenes etc (hell, I'd be surprised if they didn't) but having it there to begin with stops it from circulating around some of the more... frisky... playerbase and thus decreases its chance of coming up around the media.

5) Could be in character? Hell, I always play a chaotic neutral absolute bastard who's a good guy (very deep) at heart. Games like Oblivion wouldn't let me show that, but games like Dragon Age (despite the whole "you're a Gray Warden, go there do this save the world" thing) allowed me to show what I want my character to say and do because in a Roleplaying game, I want to play a role (crazy, I know). Hell, I had a good time IN DEFIANCE of the Gray Warden thing, being the roguish spoiled nobleman who ends up being a sulky sod when his family dies and he's one of the only two people who can sort stuff out, and then grows the hell up when he starts interacting with Leliana and figures that other people have had it just as bad.

6) Gamers are lonely, horny individuals.

Why they always do the Sex. Well because it's a good part of the rommance betwen the characters, and that Bioware players love the rommance. That's pretty much all

Which leads me to wonder: why is it always about sex with you, anyway?
Because sex is life, and what's more important than life?

OT: **Squee!!** I love bioware romances. The sex scenes are usually a little lame (Mass Effect 1 had the best scenes - since has been a little silly), but I just love the fact that I can actually romance and sleep with characters I care about.

I am really looking forward to the sexual conversations - I love listening to my party members chat amoungs themselves, and this looks to provide further amusement.

"which leads me to wonder: why is it always about sex with you, anyway?"

I'm really tired of game makers bothering with sex. Rule 34 did it so well, you don't need to do it yourselves.

Well their trying to be a serous RPG, I know that sounds odd, but sex is a serous part of life. When it's taken too lightly, or over done, then it's a joke. But we also have to remember that people are not made of mud, and everyone you meet in the RPG can't be virgins.

BioWare is probably trying to fined the right balance.

How many action/adventure movies have a romance in them? I've never seen a stat on that, but I'd be willing to bet pretty much all of them except the various "buddy movies" (although I could have sworn I saw Chris Rock making goo goo eyes at Jackie Chan).

Bioware's style is cinematic, so it's unsurprising that they include Romance, which often means s-e-x. And judging by the way the Bioware forums have about a million threads on the various romances, there's a big market for that.

And one has to respect that sort of recognition of market forces. Next up, Bioware will make a game called "Dusk", where you can play an underaged girl (or boy) who will fall madly in love with any number of sexy vampires who vie for her attention.

I kid, I kid.....

Well, you don't have to have the sex scenes appear. If you want to add a Romantic Subplot to your Dragon Age, you can.

That's what Bioware is good at: giving you options for how the story progresses. That's why they're heralded for being good storytellers.

And it's not that the choices are so deep and grey that they make you think about everything, but it's that they're so common and constant that they create a very personalized experience; with or without shagging.

Um...this was actually in Dragon Age: Origins as well. When you're sneaking around as a guard, you can enter a room with a chamber maid and a knight. The maid is kneeling in front of the knight and she whispers:

"Be quiet. Someone will hear us."
"No they won't. They're all at dinner."
"Oh, okay. Then let's do this (giggles)." You don't see anything, and if you get too close, you interrupt it, but it's heavily implied as to what she was about to do.

I don't know the age of the people commenting on this,no matter the opinion, since the examples go only as far as Mass Effect and Fable, but bioware always had sexual/love relations in their games since Baldur's Gate so atleast their coherent about it and I hope they won't back down on this. As for sex language I'll always remember Korgar talking to Mazzy: "Be aware, Mazzy, I've something long, hard and low to the ground ye're free to touch and fondle."

I for one never tire of imagining how much hair the animators tore out trying (& failing) to make the cutscenes not look like two mannequins trying to dry hump each other.
You hit it on the head there.

Ah Bioware you masterful trolls

I choose you Fox News! Fox News used Controversy... It wasn't very effective

Bioware used Free Publicity... It's super effective!

Ahh, I can see you are new to this site. One thing, not everyone here is a BioWare fanboy like you, and we have our own opinions about things. So, next time, maybe try doing the mature thing and just accepting (or ignoring) the opinions of others, instead of doing the 12 year old thing of quoting their post to troll it by replacing what they said with your fanboyish rants.

I like you.

Sex can be an incentive for character development and the character's growth, more so than the sex, is extremely useful in creating an immersive experience.

Yeah, at this point I'm actually trying to figure out why anyone gives a crap about sex in the games. Hell, it's not even sex, it's implied sex. I mean sure it's good for a laugh, like "haha I just did it with an elf!", but that's about the extent of the appeal for me. It's not for the sake of watching two video game characters do it (because you don't even see that anyway), it's usually part of a romance developing between the characters. In fact, as far as sex in games goes, Bioware is very conservative about it. See the Soul Calibur series for details. Or Dead or Alive. Or Final Fantasy X-2. Or just about any Japanese game.

I don't know what is against sex. Bioware never made a spotlight for it. They just add it, show it that it can't be totally ignored. For me, it just make the game a richer experience.
