I'm curious who a player would be in a Zelda MMO. Link does everything to save Hyrule or its equivalent. The only options that come to mind are the ineffective palace guards or various townspeople.

Zelda MMO, I'm not fond of this notion, if it is real I would be interested to see how they would pull it off but I get the feeling that this isn't going to happen.

On another note a Pokemon MMO does interest me, although I stopped caring for Pokemon back in 2002 I think I would be more open to a well done Pokemon MMO then any other Nintendo IP adaptions to MMO.

Zelda universe sounds like it could be either an MMO, or a collector's editions with all (or at least several of) the Zelda games. Releasing the official timeline would also make sense.

I'm not quite sure how they could pull off a Zelda MMO. It seems to me that they wouldn't be able to make as good dungeons if they had to make a ton of them. I don't think I would be very pleased by the result.

I'm a bit curious if young kids qould actually play an MMO. If so, I think they'd be really annoying to play with.

Braedan, Intheweeds comments should show you that you can't make a great game about finding artifacts to defeat a big bad without bringing in the same boring guy in green tights and an elf hat every time.

OT: I've never played a Legend of Zelda game (Except for Twilight Princess, which was okay, but it wasn't my thing). I honestly wouldn't care for a Zelda MMO. However, if it is gonna be a Zelda MMO, then obviously, it's gonna be released for the Project Cafe, not the Wii.
About half the games out there are about going on a treasure hunt and then beating the big bad.

Dragon age?
Find the armies

Morrowind?
Find the artifacts

Knighs of the Old Republic?
Find the starmaps

None of these games just rehash the same plot, they try to make new ones.
Don't get me wrong, I'm playing through Link to the past right now. Zelda games are really well done. I just think Nintendo could make a really good new IP.

Has noone read the kotaku article people are talking about? Nintendo get the esrb to rate their websites, the universe thing is from 2008.

I actually talked with my cousin today about how nobody wants a Zelda MMO. Just goes to show how much the universe truly hates me.

Personally, I love this idea. Zelda is the only "world" that I think is mysterious and expansive enough after so many iterations that I'd actually want to explore it. It does giant boss battles better than any other game I can think of and in fact practically started the whole giant boss battle thing.

Imagine that with multiple party members. Having a Zelda game that doesn't actually include Zelda and link for a change, and in fact to be able to play it with others would be amazing imo.

Why do people want multiplayer Shadow of the Colossus, yet don't see the potential in this? Is it just because it's Zelda? I think Nintendo is just crazy enough to pull that off if this isn't just crazy guessing.

This is exactly my reaction!

Seriously, I have to be Link for it to be fun. Actually I have to be Link for it to be a Zelda game. But no one is going to get to or that would be silly. Therefore, it will not really be a Zelda game. It will just be another MMO which happens to look like a Zelda game, but instead, just bastardizes the IP.

To be fair, i don't think you can't make a great game like that. I'm just saying it won't be Zelda then in my eyes. :)

There isn't nearly enough information here to even suggest a Zelda MMO, I'd place my bets on a collection of past games.
Also scanning through all the posts people don't seem very keen on the idea, I think it would be petty cool if they did it right. There can be no link! so why not set it either before Ocarina of Time in the civil war over who gets the Tri-force or even better after OoT when Ganondorfs back and theres no link to stop him so they flood Hyrule (pre-lude to Windwaker)

Why would this be a bad thing? They're already releasing the big Zelda title, so this will be a side-thing, like 4 swords.

Four swords wasn't really bad, and this could really be nothing more than a glorified online four swords.

Yeah, I never play MMO's. I mean it's just a way for companies to extort customers month after month with monotonous content. No sir, you'll never see me playing one ... wait, there's going to be one tangentially related to Zelda?
TAKE ALL MY MONEY.

If nintendo missteps then it missteps. Why do people moan and groan and give it a chance before bitching about it?

"Zelda Universe"

Hm... with any luck they're throwing together some massive game that'll string together the canon old ones and finally make some sense outta the storyline.

I just can't bring myself to believe it's actually an MMO. I can't imagine anyone in the gaming community thinks that's a good idea.

I'll bet it turns into something like Pokémon's dream world... I don't know how a Zelda MMO would be good anyway.

To be honest, a Zelda MMORPG would basically be an exercise in seeing how many usernames based on the word 'link' could be generated.
That and some Escapists racing to see who can reserve "Fagballs" first.

Speaking as someone whose favorite game of all time is in this series, I have to ask why?
I can't believe that anyone who's a big fan of this series would want it going online. Certainly I'd like a change to come about in the series but not if this is the result.

What now? Is this for real? I don't know about this... A Zelda MMO doesn't make any sense in my mind. I mean, the entire point of the Zelda games is to run around gathering items to help you solve puzzles that allow you to gather gems or pearls or treasures, etc. Would that be what the game would be about? Are there going to be puzzle raids? Is the Master Sword going to be a legendary item? For that matter, are we all going to be Links? Or are we going to be the equivalent of NPC's that follow Link around while Link is the NPC that... leads the story? Like I said... this makes no sense to me.
