With most RPGs the game music gets boring after a while, so I put on my own music. Can be anything really. Right now I'm playing New Vegas with the Demon's Souls OST in the background. Epic.

Always when I'm playing a sports game where the commentary is repetitive. Or when I'm grinding for a collectibles trophy or something.

Really unless there is a narrative I'm going to be listen to music, podcasts or 5Live.

I don't usually listen to music whilst playing. However I usually do during MMOs. Often during LOL also. At LAN parties I always listen to 'Escape' and 'Autobot/Decepticon Battle' by Vince DiCola from the Transformers: The Movie soundtrack. I have a feeling that the Tron Legacy soundtrack will be appearing at the next one too.

Other than that, it's usually a lot of Soilwork, Scar Symmetry (First three albums, the 4th one is meh), Solution .45, Killswitch Engage and Bullet for my Valentine.

I like to concentrate on music when I listen to it, it would just be distracting most of the time, not to mention it would usually ruin the immersion and all that.

On first time playing a single player campagain I never listen to my own music always the orginal soundtrack would be like going to the cinema and listening to my ipod.

On-line shooters ect its metal and hard rock all the way. And fight night its the rock sound tracks, god only knows why they didt just use that anyway they were never gunna come up with better

I definetly agree with your first point, some games espically long running RPG's it can be fun to try a pick a song to match the mood

For important boss battles. I play Final Fantasy X's battle theme(sucky game, great music). For games with zombies or zombie-like creatures (Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc.), I have the Undead Nightmare soundtrack playing. Sets the mood perfectly in the subways of D.C.
