Everyone Gets Every Portal 2 Mod Level on Every Platform

I'm not bashing them, i own a 360 myself... but its just that idea of giving things away for free... i mean all those problems involving the BBC's iplayer... something Microsoft didn't want free subscribers to use... they've been problems between valve and Microsoft before involving dlc, Microsoft wanting to charge for it, but valve not etc... i just can see it been one of those "yes you will get this modded content... eventually" like team fortress 2. I use to play that on the xbox till my brother showed me the PC version... its hard to believe its the same game.

As someone else pointed out, there have been a ton of games that have free DLC.
Also Far Cry 2 had user created content that was freely accessible within the game.
This is a pretty big game, maybe Microsoft will get in the way but I digress.

Have you ever seen the xbox marketplace? Every little thing has a price tag attached to it, gamer pics, avatar clothing, game videos, game add-ons, every virtual item. It's pretty ridiculous what they can get away with selling. So of course, it's super likely MS is gonna be a pain and charge for every single user-created mod and knick-knack, while PC users get it all gratis.

Pretty much the same for you. Plenty of games out there with free DLC.

I do hope the 360 people get it for free like the other two, be nice to see microsoft remember we are people not money machines.

Oh i totally agree, but wasn't far cry 2's built into the game? the map creation had its own section with in the game that Microsoft couldn't control, im only taking a guess as i played the pc copy which essentially was another console port, where as in this case, content has to be made on a PC then somehow accessed on the console via some other means... it mite be as simple as plugging a flash drive in and copying it over now Microsoft have given us flash drive support...lets hope that anyway. My only other problem is like you said this is a pretty big game, can you really see Microsoft passing up an opportunity to get something extra for what is going to be a popular game?

The folks at Bethesda studios should work on this! would be awesome to have all the mods made in skyrim to be on the ps3 & xbox aswell =D

Holy crap just yesterday i was talking on this forum about how it would be awesome to PC mods released on consoles, this is just amazing, I never had any interest in Portal 2 before but now i might give it a try

While I am happy for the PS3 owners and PC guys like myself, I'm worried that the Xbox Live folks are going to get charged for "map packs" as DLC. This would be a travesty, since I doubt the creators would get any profit from it at all, while Microsoft scams the shit out of their customers.

Would they be allowed to sell other people's work for money for themselves, without the designer getting any profit? Wouldn't they be sued for that, at least I hope so anyway, the people who design the levels should get all the profit.

they'd claim they're charging for the distribution, not for the content itself. sorry, i mean "they WILL claim..." there's no doubt in my mind they'll find some way to charge for it.

Makes me happy! If all the PS3 people who made great levels for LittleBigPlanet can be motivated to make great levels for Portal 2 as well, everybody wins.

Clearly not reading this the tools for level making are only on pc though if buy the game on PS3 you get a free copy of it on normal steam.

They don't charge for user created maps in halo reach I see no reason they would do so for portal 2. Secondly, I hope that other developers will get in on this and perhaps we will have Skyrim mods on the ps3 and 360.

OK. I said it before. I have to say it again: Why is Valve so nice to us?

If I remember correctly, Valve is not corporate like EA and Activision, and the guys running the show are as much gamers as the customers.

I could be wrong though.
