I literally just finished watching a guy called jenomorph play thru amnesia the dark descent (because i'm too much of a pussy to play it myself).

It's hi-larious to watch people play horror games, if only because of the sense of detachment you have since you're not the one being immersed in the experience.

Oh. yeah. Great article btw. Hope to see you do an LP thing soon.

Ooo. Shame that one of the 50 Cent guys retired, so no more stuff from them.

... you do realize you're about to unleash a horde of fanboys like locusts upon the forum, right?

... okay, now I'm really glad the $10 gate is there.

EDIT: Also, a recommendation: Freelance Astronauts playing New Super Mario Bros Wii. Actually makes the game seem worthwhile.

I love LP's- just as Yahtzee says there a perfect tool for getting to experience a game that you either cant afford, dont have access to or just dont want to play.
But Ive never heard about the SA part of the equation, having to content myself with the highly variable quality of the youtube forms- but Im definately gonna check them out now cheers.

And I agree, it would be nice to see yahtzee's take on LP's.

I have a Half Life 2 LP on youtube that I haven't updated in 3 or 4 months, mostly because trying to edit together a break in game play was an extremely tedious task. Though, now that I'm on spring break from college, I have the time to work on it.
I'll think I'll do that now.

Honestly, I really want to do this someday, AND for a game people may actually care about.

I'd find it tough to do one alone, though, and I am the type with QC standards, so I'd want a proper TV recording... thingy.

Hm... Fascinating. I did not expect you to like LP's as much as you do. Also, thanks for mentioning that site. I used to watch the occasional LP on Youtube, but I will try that site.

P.S. Yay for the Deadly Premonition shout-out! More people should play that game...

What?
Well, you might want this [http://www.letsplayforum.com/] to be brought to your attention as well. Not quite as good as SA and hasn't been around as long, but we don't just let any moron get status either. You can actually look at the feedback thread and see some rather painful exchanges between the feedback crew or other members and new people who think they're much better than they actually are. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWeJN5P7skA]

I joined there myself, they helped me improve quite a lot.

As for SA, I heartily recommend Slowbeef & friend's Let's Play of the Metroid Prime series (and Diabeetus on Metroid Fusion in the same thread), as well as Diabeetus' Let's Play of Battletoads.

Also, if you are not aware of their existence, look up 'retsupurae' on YouTube.

There are plenty of LPs on "Youtube" as well if anyone is interested.

That said, I have little sympathy for Yahtzee on the matter of not having enough time to play games. To be honest he's a professional, and apparently making enough money off of his internet fame to open a bar (since I seem to remember him mentioning his very humble beginnings). It comes down to the amount of time he chooses to spend on his profession... and simply put, anything becomes a boring chore when you do it professionally. Any hardcore gamer out there who suddenly had their gaming and commentary held to a professional level would rapidly feel the same way about it. Saying "well, I only play a few hours a day because I want to have a life" is kind of silly when you consider that most people have their lives seriously effected by having to work a job. Playing games 10-12 hours a day for a week straight is pretty much the equivilent of what most people would do at their job considering travel time, and be left with very little to do otherwise.

The point here being that while his comments about LP videos are interesting, to be honest I also find his reasons for endorsement kind of disturbing, my basic attitude is that he needs to get back to work, even if that work is playing games so he can entertain us. If it's a chore for him to do... well, welcome to employment.

Trust me, before I became a total wreck (disabled) I worked as casino security, which was a giant dog and pony show where I got to hold up a uniform and get blamed for things that went wrong that I couldn't do anything about (professional scapegoat... and understanding that is part of the job). I dealt with drunks, thefts, reports, and tons of things, not to mention gazing at monitors watching nothing happen for many, many hours on end, or worse yet walking around rows of slot machines being a deterrant... or even more fun, spending hours in doorways to the gaming floor checking IDs to prevent minors from getting on the floor. Not to mention the stress my problems that eventually rendered me disabled caused, being the guy who gets griped at for pacing and talking to themself (without realizing it) isn't the most fun thing in the world. The point is that while there were worse jobs, I have little respect for people who complain about how they job is boring, or just a general chore. If your the guy who sponges down the peep booths at an X-rated shop or something... okay then you have a right to complain. If you play video games for a living, own (or partially own) your own business, then you really don't have much room to complain and talk about your need to cut corners (so to speak).

I'm not sucj a fan of Let's Plays, but it is something I'd like to try my hand at someday. Usually I'll watch a LP either because it's a nostalgic game I really liked and want to reminisce about, or because it's being done by Noah Antwiler aka The Spoony One.

As you can probably surmise by that, I'm watching it for the funny or the nostalgia, but equally I think it can be quite refreshing to see someone who has a different take than you playing a game, and putting it in a new light for you as well.

I only recently watched my first LP and it was on YouTube. I was looking for advice on how to suck less in Mount and Blade when I ran across this. Unfortunately there wasn't really much advice, but the guy running it was pretty funny, so I continued to watch his videos. Link [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsgzQj_qq2Y]

Also, I watched some of Shamus Young's LPs [http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?cat=188] which are very different in that it features four people who are often not even talking about the game, but also entertaining.

On the LP Archive, I personally enjoyed Sonic 2006's LP by Pokecapn. I felt so bad for all of them in the LP for putting up with how bad it was, but seeing how bad that game plays was both hilarious and rather informative.

Welcome to SA: We'll kick you in the balls until you stop making shitty shit.

I'm surprised you didn't plug Flashback again.

ProtonJonSA is one of the best LPers on Youtube. He did one on Superman 64 and even managed to get an interview with a developer at Titus Games. It's actually a good insight into why Superman 64 was as bad as it was.

I was attempting to do my own LP series when my computer decided to die and take all my work with it. I was more interested in the game than talking about myself anyway...

[sub]I really want to make a successful LP.[/sub]
