Um, maybe on the weekends. I usually don't play more than six hours a day (max, not an average amount) unless I have somebody over to play games. And there are tons of days where I don't play any games at all, or only play at most an hour or two. But I do like unwinding after a stressful day with some gaming. But when you think about it, six hours a day for seven days is 42 hours. So it'd be pretty easy to be in the "extreme" gamer group if you were the sort of person who had evenings/weekends off, or worked a late shift somewhere and had afternoons or mornings free, or if you were single (I've recently become involved with someone, and dating eats up some serious time. I've gamed a lot less in the last few weeks just because of that, I bet.)

The Extreme Gamers are probably all unemployed or about to be. It's the only way that's realistically possible.

Wow, excellent point.
When you think about it 48 hours just SOUNDS like a lot. I mean, how much TV do you think some people watch? How much NFL, NBA, NHL, etc? How many people do you know who watch TV shows where every show is an hour long, and they end up watching 6+ seasons of it? And re-watching it, too. How many hours of music do you think some people listen to? How many hours of reading do you think some folks read?
It's all equally as fake and escapist as each other. The question is whether video games deserve any kind of special attention paid to the people who enjoy them than other addictive, fake forms of entertainment out there. I mean, what about freaking porn?!? Then again, porn isn't interesting for more than (at most) an hour or two at a time. Gotta say, video games > porn on pure entertainment value.
