They may be unemployed or be students. It doesn't shock me really, I've spent that much time gaming when I've had lots of free time.
Why do they need to be unemployed or students? You CAN have a job and play 45+ hours a week. I do it all the time and I work full time.
They don't need to be, but clearly if you're unemployed you have more free time for hobbies than if you work full time.

48 hours a week really isn't all that much. I put in about 50 hours a week at school. Does that make me an EXTREME student?

If a total of 2 days a week is extreme then what does 4-23 hours every day of every week constitute :/

Yes, but what does it mean when you spend more time on the escapist then gaming itself?

Does it make you a Hard-Core Escapee?
I spend about 85% of my time after work or school on The Escapist. I'm pretty hardcore.

OT:The last time I gamed that much is when I bought every NES Mario game on Ebay.

Yeah, I guess I'm in the Extreme Gamer Category right now, although I do have low times where I'll game 20-25 hours in a week, I've been playing around 50 hours a week for the last 3 months
Yakuza3, Resonance of fate and Fifa 10 are mostly guilty!

I think I've divided this way:

Red = PC gaming (mostly offline) [53%]

Blue = Portable gaming [32%]

Orange = Console gaming [15%]

I'm on the computer for work so more often than not I end up playing games on it because I'm right there. I play portable games a lot as I'm on the go quite a bit and my DS usually tags along with me. I play much on my consoles as I have to share a TV with my parents (who watch a lot of TV) and I usually can't be asked to bother to set it up. Not that I don't play on consoles at all, I'm usually over at a friends place when playing with a controller.

In the typical week I game at most 21 and a half hours so you can do the math. I'm not hardcore but I'm not exactly casual either.

I don't know what to classify myself as. I'm not PC exclusive but I'm not a console junkie...

I definitely don't consider myself an extreme gamer, but I easily top 40 hours a week. Wanna know how? It's my job. I work, usually over 40 hours a week doing game testing. Of that, I would wager that around 6 hours of each day are testing the game, with the rest being the entry of bugs into the system or searching to see if my bug is already in the database. Then factor in that after I've worked all day, I come home and actually play a game to relax for a couple hours. During the school year my gaming hours are significantly lower, but yeah, summer time? Gaming is quite literally my job.

Um... I thought, oh, that can't be possible.

But it is. See, I game with friends every weekend. From Friday evening to Sunday evening, with few breaks. Meals are McDonalds, drinks are soft drink cans. Sleep happens for fixed 6 hour intervals.

And I game on weekday evenings. Get home around 5.30, make dinner, eat it, then game. Until 10.

If I don't do 48 hours some weeks, then I'm pretty darn close...

Hehe, when I was truly devoting myself to Morrowind, I probably did more than that a week.

Also, this article makes an important error:

When gaming calls, sleep is the first activity that gets cut.

I usually set aside 6 hours a day for gaming. That's 6 hours x 7 days a week + extra 6 hours for days off = 48 hours a week gaming.

Wow. I'm [HEADING=1]EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEME!!!!1![/HEADING]
