It's funny how you and Moleneux talk like Fable is some kind of long running license where "Best Fable game" actually counts for somehting.

As for the subject at hand, I thought that it had been established long ago that forcing a significant choice early on without being able to undo them was a staple of bad game design. All good RPGs have let you evolve naturally into your role, not demanded it form day one (Class selection doesn't count, as those games give you a party to make up for anyhting you lack).

I never understood the hate on Fable II, I mean I agree that the ending was sort of a dick move. But the rest of the game was very awesome, in my honest opinion even better than the 1st one. Especially guns, pistol ftw <3

OT: I'm sooo looking forward to the game. Pre-ordered the Collecor's Edition, I've been a fan of the Fable franchise since I got my Xbox all those years ago.

Ah, Peter Molyneux, back on the 'I PROMISE YOU RIVERS OF WHISKEY, DANCING GIRLS AND CIGARETTES THAT DON'T GIVE YOU CANCER!' horse. Fortunately for him, the awesome video with his son and his story about Black and White's creature's genitilia have amused me to no end, I'm hoping for a good Fable game, but I guarantee you there will be a few very annoying problems with it, that seems to be the staple of the series.

you actually liked reaver? you didn't want to kill him soon after? you didn't find it stupid you couldn't completely destroy him at some point?
then there is the fact of bad design towards the end, I dont know how to spoiler tag here but its obvious whats wrong with the last areas of the game....and the endings actually made you happy?

You know, I kind of think it would have been better if he had kept this sort of detail as a surprise for release. Seems like a much better approach personally.
Agreed, this guy leaves no surprise to the games he doesn't shut up about. I like to have at least a little to discover about a game otherwise I don't see too much point in playing it.

Ehhh... the thing about Lionhead is that they have never, ever made a believable, likable character. Not one. I'm evil in every single one of their games just because the AI and the pleading fake English accented dipshits I'm controlling fill me with disgust.

There's a big design choice I think shouldn't be made... combining drama with comedy, usually through character dialogue. Full comedy is great, full drama can be fun, half-and-half in the hands of anyone but the best of the best is a recipe for disaster. The Fable games are supposed to be funny. They aren't, but if they were it would still break up the drama so badly that it wouldn't work.

Players are going to find their own humour in serious games, that's why dead-serious games are even more fun to laugh at. God of War is one of the funniest games I've ever played, not because the designers made it that way, but because I and many others found their own humour in the serious tone of the game. If Fable III were approached as high fantasy, with the humour an unavoidable side-effect, then not only would it be approachable to a larger audience but when the humour popped up it would come as a fun surprise rather than a boring given. How many chickens are we going to pelt in this game, Molyneux? How many hats are animal mascots?

(sorry, went totally off topic there)

Again, you had me at John Cleese.
Honestly, that that would be the only reason I would consider getting the game. Ive been fooled by Molyneux before, with both Fable and Fable 2. Ill still probably get the game, but im not holding to high of expectations now...

My favourite Fable character, Stephen Fry as an amoral, immortal Pirate! What's not to love?
And yes, the end was badly designed. Still loved the game up until the rather anticlimax ending.

I think he's probably referring to the part where you have to pick whether your dog's collar is blue or red.

Hmm, well I think Peter Molyneux needs to stop overhyping his own games like this.
I honestly hope he doesn't. He's so damn excited about making games, and it's great to see him talk about them. Very few other developers seem to have this level of excitement about the industry.

That said, it would be nice if at least one aspect of a Fable game could be as good as he says it is.

I think I speak for everyone when I say this..

Step 1.) Have Sex
Step 2.) Kill everything
Step 3.) ????
Step 4.) Kill everything again

Steps 1-4 are all profit.
Not everybody plays a murderous, evil, nymphomaniac when they play Fable, you know. How easy is it to kill everybody you see? Now how much more fun is the game when you play it by choices that you yourself would make?

Quite a large difference, if you ask me.
Actually, I question how many people would still make the same decisions if they were actually the main character. No respawns, no saves, no nothing.

If I lived in these dangerous medieval times, I'd never step foot out of my house.

I tend to make whatever decisions are most rewarding. For example, the maximum caps with persuasion for saving Megaton in The Power of the Atom in Fallout 3 is 500 caps, but the maximum caps with persuasion for blowing it up is 1000. By doing all the Megaton quests then killing all of the inhabitants and looting their corpses and THEN setting the bomb off, I make the most profit, especially if I off all of the Tenpenny residents.

Would I do any of these things in the real Fallout world? No, because not only would that be a dick move, but the consequences would be way different.

Fable 3 has a tough decision?

What about Fable 1? I never could bring myself to hit that little boy at the start... :(

The decision will be what gender you are. Calling it now. That's not what Peter thinks it is, but that's what it will be

I'm pretty sure I know what the tough decision is.
You have to choose between your childhood friend/love interest or a rowdy rabble's ringleader to be executed by your brother Logan.

While I wanted to kill Reaver at every turn, I couldn't stay mad at him, oddly enough. I found him ridiculously charming, and I loved all the ways he said goodbye. Even when he killed Barnum, his dialogue afterwords was too delicious. Even as you escaped from his hidden passage, and he blew up the entrance and he gloated about it, I found myself drawn to him.

I think it's actually how people stand him IN the game. Reaver was probably one of the best characters in modern gaming, for the reason that he made you feel actually something. I can honestly say, that I kind of have a man-crush on him, which is probably what he wanted, to everyone let their guard down around him and open up to him...only for him to betray/break my heart again.

Bravo.

As for the decision...I'm looking forward to it, like the rest of Fable 3.

And so it begins again... Good ol' Peter starts running his mouth about how great the game is. Next step, it comes out to "meh"s and "could've been better"s.
