Dear god, it's like you're deliberately missing my point. Here, I'll simplify it in such a way that nobody could possibly misinterpret it, good games are relative to those playing them, a terrible game for one person could very well be the best game of all time to another.s69-5 said:

That's fantastic if you think those are the best games released this year, however that's all you can do, think. The OP decided he wanted to play one of two games (prototype or fable), why in gods name would you bring up batman AA? Yes, you may think it's a better game, hell, for arguments sake I'll happily admit it's the best game of it's type ever released, however the OP doesn't want a game of that type. He/she was asking about two open world action games, both with limited RPG elements that focus on combat. While they are completely different, they have certain similarities which is no doubt what drew the OP to them in the beginning. Suggesting another (possibly better) game that does not have these common traits is unproductive and pointless. It's like being asked whether somebody should wear a t-shirt of shirt out and dismissing both in favor of shoes....
I don't really think you should get either of them. As people have pointed out, there are much better games to get.

Why the choice between Prototype and Fable II? There's tons of other great games to get for the same price.
If I really HAD to choose between those two, I'd go with Prototype, since Fable II was just Fable: The Lost Chapters, and that bored me to death.

Clearly I do. As you can see, Fifa10 has a higher average score (officially) than batman AA (I assume you're familiar with metascores), yet is notably lower in the user reveiws. We've seen for ages how reveiwers are bribed to give good reveiws of games (there are many articles within this very site, however I cbf digging them up, especially as you've probably seen them), GOTY is typicially just an extension of this and a great many of the publications that award it do so based on who is paying them.s69-5 said:

Fable II is the same game every time you play it, except for two things: Good or Evil (Although either unavoidable extreme makes you look like a pansy), Male or Female (Although you have both sexes proposing to you openly about ten minutes in). And unless you download $20 of DLC, you'll get a message saying, "You don't have the required DLC to play this game." Or at least that's what happened to me last time I tried to play it.
I haven't played Prototype, but I've heard that's equally bad if not worse.
So, if you want a game that delivers on the same premise of Fable II for less money, buy Oblivion. If you want a game similar to but better than Prototype... I dunno. I can't think of a good open-world superhero game that you'd be able to find. Spiderman 3 was pretty good, and if you can find it it should be nearly ten dollars. But Oblivion is better than Spiderman 3, so my recommendation would be Oblivion.

I hate too sound like a jerk but both Fable 2 and Prototype can be beaten in one sitting. Why don't you rent one and then the other. If you want my recommendation as to what to buy I would go with fallout 3. I have the xbox version myself, and I play it more than any other game.Draco Kaiser said:

I'm impressed how simply posing a question comparing 2 games in which there is 1) Absolutely no plausible comparison and 2) are a bit on the, "Love it or hate it" side, seems to be the perfect recipe for encouraging people to flame for stupid reasons. I guess that despite the attempt to ask a legitimate question, there is just no way to compare the 2, and so people fall back on their base urges of whining at each other.
You already know that the decision really comes down to what genre you want to play. Since the only thing remaining seems to be people jamming there personal opinion down your throat, might as well just go and read Metacritic. Likely safer, I'm actually mildly surprised there hasn't been a lock yet.
