How about taking a look at this thread and at the threads about people's pick for GOTY on this site before you stick your foot further up your ass, hmm?
As for the short list I gave, it was only examples. Yes, the multiplat Borderlands and Dirt 2 were popular, but GOTY material, hardly. Oh and Batman AA and Dragon Age are multiplat as well.... you can't deny that Uncharted 2 is in the same short list as Batman AA (which are probably the top 2 contenders).
Dear god, it's like you're deliberately missing my point. Here, I'll simplify it in such a way that nobody could possibly misinterpret it,
good games are relative to those playing them, a terrible game for one person could very well be the best game of all time to another.
I'm sure you got this and decided to ignore it, but I'll throw it in again anyway,
these awards are meaningless, they reflect marketing budget not game quality. That's fantastic if you think those are the best games released this year, however that's all you can do,
think. It isn't for any one person to define 'best' of anything (well, anything subjective like 'best games' anyway, I suppose something like best runner is somewhat easier to define..../tangent), it's all just opinion.
The OP decided he wanted to play one of two games (prototype or fable), why in gods name would you bring up batman AA? Yes, you may think it's a better game, hell, for arguments sake I'll happily admit it's the best game of it's type ever released, however the OP doesn't want a game of that type. He/she was asking about two open world action games, both with limited RPG elements that focus on combat. While they are completely different, they have certain similarities which is no doubt what drew the OP to them in the beginning. Suggesting another (possibly better) game that does not have these common traits is unproductive and pointless. It's like being asked whether somebody should wear a t-shirt of shirt out and dismissing both in favor of shoes....
