You really don't have to use Facebook if you don't want to. I don't see the problem with that. Get one of your friends to call you if something's going to happen, I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

Polyphonic Music.

No, I dont have Facebook, Twitter, Myspace etc. I dont feel urge to share with the world what I do, what I think etc. I also do not enjoy collecting new "Friends" which I will never meet or even speak with.

I keep in touch with real friends using messengers, like ICQ.

So, I ask you this. Am I just being stubborn by refusing to sign up for Facebook, or are my friends just all complete Facebook obsessed pillocks?
Yes and yes, but more the first one. Facebook is free. There is really nothing wrong with it. Especially if it is the way your friends choose to let people know about get togethers. Instead of complaining to them about how you never know about anything they do, why not just get a facebook, check it once a day for events, and let it sit otherwise? It would take you maybe ten minutes to set it up and would relieve a ton of stress.

Whilst some might say your being stubborn by not having a facebook, at the same time it was massively dickish of your friends to not even think about getting hold of you via a different form of communication medium. I tend to verbally arrange stuff so that i know they have heard about it.

As much as I don't like when anything I say could be seen all over the world, I have a facebook. I mainly use it for the chatting with friends I could not regularly get a hold of through other means.

Why do you think it's a horrible piece of shit? As demonstrated in your post, it's a useful tool for communicating and planning events. You can't hate something without trying it, just to be cool and above-the-crowd.

Its up to you. It sounds like they are really into the site and are using it as their primary means of communication. You can join just for the socializing aspect and leave all the stupid quizzes and gimmicks to rot in the invitation/request bin. I find Facebook a great way to get in contact with friends and family.

[sub]The TGI Fridays example is ridiculous however.[/sub]

Like I said though, it is up to you. Do you value socializing with your friends more than sticking to your guns and keeping Facebook out of your life? If not, don't get Facebook. Your friends should respect you for staying true to who you are. I would try to get them to meet Face to Face more often. You have the luxury of friends near you. Mine are hundreds of kilometres away so I kind of need Facebook.

Get them to see the light or join to keep up with them. I can't decide for you.

I have been against facebook from day one, for many of the reasons you are against it.

But it's been quite a few years, and i'm not giving in now.

Neither should you, fight the power.

It's not that bad and makes life easer. You're acting quite immaturely, just get it, you hardly need to check it and it means you won't get left out of things like that.

Oh yes because I love posting my life story on the internet!

Op I wholeheartedly agree with you, I've had friends do the same thing.
One of my friends was gone for a week of school and when she came back I asked her how she was (I thought she was sick because it was the H1N1 week) and she told me her mom died. When I asked me why didn't she tell me sooner she replied "but I posted it on facebook..."

Dude, just get a facebook. You don't have to do anything to maintain it and it's free. If you continue to be stubborn and not get one you're going to have a lot of trouble making friends in college simply because it's too hard to keep in contact with you without a facebook.

I got Facebook cause the girl I like told me to.

It IS useful for organising social events. Is it making us reliant on technology? Probably.

I think your stubborn but not in a bad way. I mean I can understand why some people don't want it (the whole private info issue and like your info is being sent tothird parties without your knowledge). Although I don't think it's fair how they are keep missing you out.
You can just pretty much just create a account on it but just put no info of yourself and just use it as a quick sign in and off everyday just to check the latest news on your friends.

I get that shit all the time.

Once someone cancelled a party and i was the only one on the location, after calling a friend he told me "You should have had facebook" to wich i answered "I have a cellphone, email, Live messenger and friends that should have informed me about the cancelation"

All my friends consume meth, i dont and im starting to feel left out...

I share your pain, OP.
I've always been against FB and never even thought about getting an account until recently. I started a new school, made a bunch of new friends and they all use FB. They want me to get it, but I really don't like it. I don't have any need for it. I keep track of my appointments, I don't care about pictures, I don't want to keep in touch with old friends, they're old for a reason.
The problem is though, I feel like I'm missing out. The social game in school is an intricate and horrific one, one that I hate and stay away from. Just another reason to not get FB, sure. But even though there haven't been anything important to miss, I just know it's coming.
So what I'm asking here, I guess, is: Are your principles worth missing out on something important?

I do have a Facebook. Let me think of the stats I have:

Made: 7 monthes ago
Logged in: 4 times
Friend requests: None
Times password forgotten: Every time I've logged in

It's useless, my friends use Steam and I don't want other people I know (mainly those who go to my church) seeing what I do and say.

I Have facebook, but only as its a better way to keep in touch with a few friends on wildly different time zones to me (GMT+1) Like my few friends in the USA or Australia. I've used it to keep one or 2 techie mates informed of how my project on a laptop was going. but aye only 1 thing was ever arranged on there due to a friend working a busy schedule at the time.

Organizing something however over facebook when your all in the same room is stupid and they all need a good hard slap across the face with an ice cold wet trout.

Facebook is nice for keeping in touch and organizing events, but your friends seem to be taking it to far. Like you said, they easily could have got in touch with you through multiple other means.
