It's even worse when all of my friends show up at MY place, and then inform me that I should have been ready for them because they organized the whole thing over facebook.
...

I don't even know what to say to that. That's absolutely ridiculous. Someone deserves a smacking =O

OT: I agreee with you. I've never much cared for Facebook, although none of my friends have forced me into it. I do have an account to chat once in a while with people I'm no longer able to see in person, but otherwise I'd prefer to let the whole site rot.

Facebook is good for chatting, organising things and other stuff. I don't see why you have such an anger against it, maybe you could elaborate. But it is best to sign up to Facebook in my opinion.

EDIT: Why does everyone seem to hate Facebook, there's nothing wrong with it, it doesn't cost anything, it's easy to use and is a good way to keep in contact and chat with people...

I abandoned facebook way back in September. I haven't had any contact with anyone since.

Fuck 'em, if that's the way it is then fine!!

Your friends sound like dicks, to be honest.

If you don't want to make a facebook to put with their dickery(?), then don't.

the wheel?

edit: human rights have the disadvantage that we(western society) try to impose our system of values on everyone else, we just assume that what we value is superior

First off, yes, you are being ridiculously stubborn for not using an incredibly useful piece of technology whose sole reason to exist is because everyone uses it. No one's putting a gun to your head and telling you to put anything up there, even a photo or your actual name. Nor does Facebook require a time investment greater than about five seconds, every other day, if all you're using it for is to keep up with plans with friends. The "it's only good if you put a lot of time into it" argument is utter horseshit, because no one's moderating every individual justification for having an account, and most of the peripheral stuff is a soulsucking third-party piece of garbage (like Zynga).

I agree that your friends are dicks for talking about events in person, with you there, and then not actually go through with the planning with everyone there. I wouldn't say they're dicks altogether for relying on planning as a standard option, because it just IS a standard option as a part of our culture. That and you can get the details adjusted and broadcast a lot more reliably and efficiently than playing phone tag for two hours trying to see if this time or that is ok with everyone else. Regardless of your prejudice, for plans that you hear about from only one or two people...you might still want to get a FB, if only for the sole purpose of making sure you have all the details.

Both. You're been an idiot by not signing up because you believe strongly against a website and they're being idiots by not simply recognising that there are easier ways to contact you.

The lot of you belong together.

I haven't signed up to facebook, as most of my friends are also people who thing it's a stupid piece of crap, thus, we've never actually had any problems.

the wheel?
Without wheels, cars wouldn't kill people. Also, you can't ask someone to go sit in the corner of a giant wheel if they're being silly.

OT: I got Facebook when I started Uni 2 years back and it's pretty handy. I hate it when people who spend almost their entire free time on it (unforntunately that includes my girlfriend) but you could always just stop trying to be an "individual" and get an account. You'd only ever have to check it once a week to see what people are up to. Honestly...it's not that different to MSN. In fact... it's fucking better because there are more functions: it has an Instant Messaging feature, public messaging (via "walls) or private messaging (for the more intimate moments in your life) and with the added bonus of trolling all your friends' inane status updates.

EDIT: Some people are allergic to Penicillin, therefore it can cause harm if not death. NOt a particularly common drawback but a drawback nontheless.

EDIT2: also, why do people dislike Facebook so much?? Is it because it's a fuckign great idea that they didn't think up or is it because everyone uses Facebook and not liking it is the "in" thing to do nowadays for people who want to be an "individual"? If someone can give me a legitimate reason for not liking Facebook (that is exclusive only to Facebook) then I will eat my metaphorical hat.

Sounds to me like they don't care if you go with them by your post. They all have MSN and the things you have but don't tell you?

While I think you are being a bit stubborn, I do understand a healthy dislike for Facebook. Honestly, I think your friends are being obtuse. I'd recommend making a Facebook account, but then not putting any real information on it. That way your friends can use the events and organizing tools they like with you, and you can maintain a certain amount of distance from Facebook.

To all of these people saying things along the lines of "I don't use facebook because I have a phone", if you're being too stubborn to use a website which make it INCREDIBLY easier to organise meet-ups and the like for FREE, then don't expect everyone to take so much more time and effort to call you up to ask you individually. This is especially directed towards those who don't use text for some arbitrary reason.

well due to the fact that you wont get a facebook just because of....well nothing then ya your stubborn

seriously why not just get one? if they are using it so much then why not, and more so there excuse is valid because you are refusing to get something that would require only minutes and is free for again no reason

It's something I use to piss of my friends. Do I use it to update everyone on the mundane details of my life and plan 'events' on it?

Haha sodding hell no.

I speak truthfully when I claim to have had several large men and two nagging women standing behind me armed with blunt objects when I had to make mine.
I'm told I'm more likable than I think I am. ... I don't see it.

all this could have been easily avoided if you weren't so stubborn and just had a facebook account, which takes 4 seconds to make.

Who's the irrational one now?
Escapist's most retarded statement of the day award goes to...

...Oh yes because I love posting my life story on the internet!
I have never posted a single wall update in my life, having a facebook account for over a year.
It has a neat, convenient little chat button that makes life a lot easier.

This reminds me of statements made by my grandfather about people never writing him anymore. Damn people always expected him to use the newfangled telephone device. Rotten kids and their 'technology'... dagnabbit!
