Just hook it up with your email, and it sends you one every time someone posts on your wall, etc. Ignore anything with the words Farm Ville in it, and you'll be fine. Seriously, the time commitment is less time than it took to write your OP, and you get fewer friends bitching at you to make one.

I got rid of my facebook after I had a friend of mine call me up and literally yell at me about how I never checked it. Apparently she had been "trying to get a hold of me for a week now!" and was angry I never responded.

I asked her why she didn't just call me, like she was doing right now.

She hung up.

The only "stupid" reason I can think of is...

My not having on keeps my mom off hers

because she can't understand that her running around clicking every freaking link gets the computer viruses, when my cautious staying on the page dosen't

to her facebook is facebook no matter what she clicks its facebook
and if I were to get a facebook that means it's magically safe for her to do whatever on

but no, I don't need one, I don't want one, I don't have the time (or patience due to the email spam) to have one, and it's NOT A NECESSITY PEOPLE, IT'S A CHOICE!
Neither is; youtube, the escapist, newgrounds, xbox, steam, wii or any of that.

Links on facebook are fine, if you go to a 3rd party website then chances are it's a virus

You missed your party because you don't have one, you then complain that you don't have one, you aren't forced to spend time on there, you can turn e-mails off completely and it takes like 10 minutes to make

That's never happened to me but I can easily see it happening.

The thing I hate the most goes like it:

Girl's status: fml
Comment: What's wrong?????????
Girl: I can't talk about it.

Why tell everyone about it? Oh yeah you're an attention whore.
UH god I hate that. Or when people post rhetorical questions... stupid. Or when people are like "Sitting down on the couch with the BF to watch some TV, :( he has a cold." Or when people post up song lyrics or something and hope everyone thinks it's their own thoughts. Or people who tell everyone they are on their way to their sisters house... fuck I hate FB.

Now that I think about it, I don't even know why I have a FB, all I really use it for is to talk shit and make fun of people. The only people I am not mean to are the younger people on my friends list, like in high school or younger.
funny story about talkin shit on FB:
a friend of mine knew this really annoying muslim kid, he got pissed off at him and siad something (not sure exactly what) that really set the kid off. so the kkid starts threatening to blow him up, and overall perpetuating muslim stereotypes. my friend just said something along the lines of "lol terrorist" and the kid accuses him of being a racist. he doesn't really care, until a week later he got contacted by the popos about him commiting a "hate crime" and some people representing the FBI held an assembly at his school.

Concur. It's not like you'd complain about people expecting you to have a mobile phone these days, is it?
Yes actually I would, being that I can't afford one and my home-phone is dirt cheap.
they can't be bothered to call, instead they pull the "well I wasn't able to text you"

like the suddenly wanted to throw away money (texting cost more then talking here- last I checked) and lost their ability to talk.

EDIT: also my NOT having a cell phone caused me to fail geo science 2 years ago (long story... I'll PM you if you're interested)
They're maybe on contract, so cost per text isn't a concern? Do you not have internet either? I mean, there's saving money (heaven I know I did at school - I resisted getting a mobile for years) then there's just being plain obstinate. All these sort of things are social tools, becoming a basic accepted part of certain circles of social life. You can't really complain, tbh, if you're the only person in your group of friends without these and so start to miss out on things.

Like I said, I didn't get a mobile until 6th form - there wasn't any point, I talked to my mates all day n organised everything face-to-face, but not everyone works like that, and you can't expect them to bend over to acquiesce to your resistance.

If you're going to avoid the communication channels used by your friends, you're just going to be a bit more proactive about finding out what's going on.
I'll admit I'm a bit too tired to go trough all this (I'm really sorry but I'm so sleepy)

but on the internet comment

I didn't have internet until last year
and even then it's DSL so I save money but I'm not as fast as cable

main reason I got it was to "help me get friends" (lot of good that's done)
but more importantly keep me up in school (because apparently internet is NEEDED to get an education now)

GET FACEBOOK.
That would be "get a facebook" not "get facebook" I can't go out and buy the site, and it's not like I DON'T have access to it already.

But hey, when there are 28 ways to contact me, if you're too lazy to send me something instead of just "facebook'ing" it, then you're/it's not worth my time.
Well, if we're going to be technical, it's "get a Facebook account". BOOM.

And if you're not willing to even consider Facebook, then why'd you bother with the thread?

My recommendation: Stay off just to piss off your friends.
That's got to be the most hilarious recommendation I've seen today

Bravo on making me laugh cause that was good!

My entire family is on Facebook, more or less. It's never a problem until my mom comments on something I've posted and takes a job at me, amusing everyone else on my friends list. Argh.

WAIT WAIT WAIT!

So you're complaining that you don't have a mobile phone because it's totally free to talk on the internet. Fair enough...I suppose.

But at the same time you refuse to get a facebook account. What? Are you a total social hermit or something? xD

I honestly don't find the appeal in Facebook. It just starts drama from what I can see. Yes, it has a plethora of uses, but I'm not exactly fond of the idea of giving my name, my biography, my location, my gender and several other things, plus, I already have an email and if someone needs to contact me, I'm always sure to give it to them. I don't need a facebook to keep in touch and I'd rather avoid the stream of people adding me on facebook just because I happen to go to their school.

No, and you should read that over a few times instead of dropping to insults because someone is in a different situation.

Either grow up or get out.

I jumped on the bandwagon to early for that to happen, but I hardly get on facebook now. I was actually thinking about taking all of the pictures and things off of my facebook and then just letting it sit there forever. It's not like my friends try and contact me on there anyway.

It doesn't have to suck up your time. I use it to contact a select group of people, usually over the Facebook IM. You can also set up the contact preferences so it doesn't email you every 2 mins if you have people scribbling on your wall etc.

My profile is pretty empty and under a pseudonym (nothing forces you to use your real name) which seems to stop people being that interested in it lol.

I had a spate of that when I first opened my account, but I did a bunch of rejections and that was that lol.

Dude, I was kidding, cool it.

I'm just confused as to how you communicate with more than a one person at a time. We all know how things can change when trying to organise something and imagine not having a platform to be able to inform your friends of your plans all at once (facebook) or while not in your house (mobile phone) could be a major pain in the ass.

That's what I did back in August. I still pop in for a peep every so often to see how my nieces in NZ are growing up.

I left my e-mail address as my last status update. In three months, I've had no e-mails from any of my 'friends'!

I concur.

It's free, its easy, and no-one is making you spend time on it other than to quickly check up on messages / invites etc.

I got one for this reason precisely, so I could stay in contact with people and not get left out such as you have been. It's a no-brainer really, unless you're so stubborn that you refuse to get Facebook for some stupid reason.
It just makes stuff so much easier and other people have it...like litterally everybody. I don't get people who don't like facebook and have no reason to dislike it.

GET FACEBOOK.
You don't get it, man. The Escapist is full of radical free-thinkers (TM) who won't conform to your norms because they don't need your electronic oppression. *checks cell phone*
(You know... kinda like old people and gramophones. Who needs CDs? They're of the devil.)

Vocabulary word of the day: Luddite.
Young folks nowadays think it's cool if they're the ones doing it.
