I had like 5K at most, but like most people say I had no need for any of it. I left so much stuff sitting in the field that it didn't matter.

After selling all of my loot obtained during the final quest in Broken Steel "Who Dares Wins", which is a loot bonanza, my character with full barter and repair, who brought Fawkes along to carry the maximum amount of loot possible, had over 25000 caps.

About 10,000 I collect all the weapons and armor I find and flog it all at Rivet City, TenPenny towers or Megaton (which ever has caps at the time). Still about 1/2 way through.

I had insane stupid amounts of caps-- I stopped picking up and selling equipment long before I hit the Broken Steel level cap. After fully upgrading my house in Megaton there wasn't much to do with them.

Depends. Far too few in the beginning, some crazy arbitrary number by the end. In most non-RTS and non-TD games, money loses value about halfway up the difficulty curve. In RTS and TD games, it loses all value just before the end of a mission, when you're just about to win and can't purchase/upgrade units fast enough.

Either that or you get the Adam Smith Hates Your Guts trope, and you have to blow fifty-million gp on that badly-needed healing potion (I'm looking at you, Bayonetta).

But for reals? I stopped counting after I pimped my house out the first time.

2-3 million, I just used the vendor glitch. I like to enjoy my game, not spend time just looking for money.

I had like 7000 caps by the end.
I got them by selling every weapon i came across that wasn't a chinese AR, or combat shotgun.
Sold all the armor that i came across except tesla armor.
Sold all the ammo i came across except the shotgun shells and 5.56 AR rounds.
Robbed and murdered people... a lot.
Sold ears to that old guy.
Didn't buy anything but stimpacks.
Luck i guess.
Did some quests that paid caps.
Sold all food, rad x, and rad away.
Blew up megaton.
Thats it i think.
Really and that is it?

Gezz I must have played way to much. I had around 30,000 caps by the time I stopped playing.

after 119 hours fallout 3 + all 5 DLC

got about 600 stimpacks and my house storage has just about every weapon and armour available in game
My S.P.E.C.I.A.L is all 10 and my skills are all 100

Fallout 3 is really easy I stuggle to find merchants with enought money to buy all my crap, alien epoxy covers weapon repairs and operation anchorage gives the best armour that has soo much health it never needs repairing any.

Xunalong chinesse assault rifle is really the only weapon you need

Money is practically useless your enemies constantly drop weapons, ammo, armour, stimpacks, food and in plenty of areas Respawn forever

The most I've had at any given time was around 10,000 or so. They really had little value in most cases given that the only real exchanges I ever needed to make with them involved the purchase of rare ammunition types (.308, .44 mostly - I was drowning in 5mm, 10mm, 5.56mm, .32 cal, 12 guage and energy ammo) and acquiring stimpacks (which became all but irrelevant by the time I hit level 20 or so as it was all but impossible for most enemies to deliver significant damage before they were murdered.

I currently have 14,000+ caps after finishing the main game + 5 DLC's in the GotY edition.
Have the Nukacola Machine, Jukebox, Lab, and have changed theme's twice.
My locker is stuffed with 100% CND apparel and weapons.
Have never bought Ammo or Guns.
Mostly Stimpaks, Bobby Pins and Chinese Stealth Armor repair.

Just bring Fawkes along as your item Mule (give him a Gatling Laser protect himself with)
and load him up with loot to take back to town and sell.
I've never reached Fawkes weight limit.
Wonder if he has one.

Make caps & xp points selling scrap metal at the Water Plant.
Sell Sugar Bombs to the Metro Ghoul.
Sell Pre-War Books to the Library.
etc...

Have to back track to Plat.
Pitt ingots.
Alien Archives
All bobbleheads.
And some minor Karma issues with evil quests.
Stay good. Easy to switch to neutral or bad within 150 points.

I had around 20K before my hard drive crashed. The trick is to collect everything, and never actually spend anything. At shops, choose what you want to buy, and then sell the shop everything you can spare until the caps you're getting are in the positive. I usually try to sell enough that I collect every cap the shopkeeper has.

I had a shit load. Just sell everything that isn't power armor, a chinese assault rifle, a combat shotgun, lincon's repeater, or the ammo for each of them. Unless your an energy weapon dude in which case sell everything that isn't a plasma rifle or power armor.

I got them both to live in the tower just for the Ghouls to kill everyone anywaysy.), and most of the Survival Guide (only have robco left) and have about 5000 caps.

IT'S OVER 9000!!!!

Ok, seriously, about 56,000. Level 30 good karma, the ammo press in the pitt let me change any ammo I didn't want into 5mm ammo and sold that to moira. You get so much 5mm ammo from the other types and you can sell it for 0.8 caps each without too much hastle...

One time I had 13,000 5mm rounds lol.

About 30,000. I didn't use any glitches and didn't get the fortune finder perk.

Basically, I played a ridiculous number of hours in the game, but really, by about 20 hours in, if you boost repair and medicine to the top, have a favorite set of weapons you always use and don't constantly change your house around, you have more caps that you can use. It takes some work, because you have to be find people who will still have caps to trade for your crap, but you can do it.

Ammo is a great way to get tons of caps. I never used the 5mm or 10mm ammo, sold all of it. I never used rocket launchers, so sold any rockets I picked up. Sold all rail spikes, darts, flamethrower fuel, BBs and .32 rounds as I never used weapons that used that ammo.

Ammo is worth way more caps than any of the wasteland detritus you can pick up, and it weighs nothing, so it's easy to build up caps that way. I didn't even have to get the ammo perk.
