May I suggest trafficking drugs, Alcohol, slaves, ammo, guns. Anything that you can get your hands on.
I found going into the slave game to be most profitable.
Also Having a house full of Jet and other types of drugs is nice too.
Have a pack mule is also very nice for those long trips. Just make money getting slaves and then just buy clover. Shes great to carry stuff. Though I would not give her a weapon (Big mistake on my part) She'll think she is super man and attack everything.
that sounds interesting, i wasn't aware you come become a dealer etc. how does it work though? people actually come to buy stuff off you or can you only sell to traders?

Get a room in tenpenny tower, so you have a place to keep all the extra stuff you find.
Blowing up Meagton is the easiest way...And the coolest!!

Well if your playing on a computer. Get broken Steel and play the main quest, if not stay away from when you get to "finding the garden of eden" part. When you get so far, play the side quest of check out some mods.

Want caps? Tenpenny tower is practically free money if you have a good lock pick or hack. Anyway it is best just to chill out and take in the sights.

Please tell me you didn't pick heavy weapons as a skill.

OP:After going to Megaton and speaking to Colin Moriarty about your father find the Galaxy News Radio in the ruins of the city.

Get 9 Intelligence, then hunt the Intelligence Bobblehead. 10 Intelligence nets you more skill points.

The rest falls into place.

I would suggest acoiding going into the jefferson memorial straight away if you are playing on 360. If you go in there without talking to Dr Li first you lose out on an achievement.
You should go for an intelligence of 9-10 straight away as it allows you to increase your skills much more rapidly. Now at level 30 with almost all skills maxed out :p
And energy weapons are your friends. Especially the tesla cannon from Broken steel. And the t51 b power armour is awesome as it never degrades and gives ultimate protection

My general tips from experience are:

- It helps to make sure you start with an INT of 9 (don't make it 10 because you can boost it by one point by finding the bobblehead in Rivet city, this allows you to place an extra stat point on another important attribute like CON or PER).

- The following skills are very important (in my experience anyway): Speech, Small Guns, Medicine, Repair and Lockpick. Having a high level in all of these essentially allows you to be largely self sufficient and minimises your use of resources (which helps you live longer).

- The following perks should be considered carefully since their benefits don't always outweigh the costs: Intense training, any perk that adds 5 to a skill, Lead Belly, Computer Whizz, Infiltrator, Night Person, Child at Heart, Solar Powered, Nuclear Anomaly, Radiation tolerance and No weaknesses.

- For the love of God, try to get the Ghoul mask, it will save you an arse load of hassle when it comes to Broken Steel and Point Lookout.

Personally I put off the main quest for as long as possible, choosing to spend my time lvling up while exploring.
yeah Strongback and then pick up and sell EVERYTHING you can. Well, everything with a value greater than say 5 or 10
