My characters pretty amazing in my opinion? Lv30, tags in Small guns, repair and barter.
Though I think my skills stand like this:
Barter: 95+5
Energy weapons: 60
Explosives: 30
Medicine: 35
Speech: 80
Lockpick: 75
Sneak: 25
Repair: 90
Melee weapons: 28
Unarmed: 30
survival: 30
Guns: 98+5
Science: 80

So, kinda covered the most important aspects and to be fair, my guy fuckin' rocks hard lol
Though, I'm a pack rat so it also means I have all the shiney weapons and shit? That might also be a reason why he's so awesome?

My tag skills are medicine, guns, and sneak.--level 23--
Strength 6, Perception 2, Endurance 6, Charisma 1, Intelligence 10, Agility 10, and Luck 6
I just got the Cz Avenger (the unique minigun) and with 100 guns it does 468 DPS (fully repaired)

My other character is level 27 with 100 mele weapons and 100 unarmed. It is really good to have unarmed for a mele character because you will need it to get piercing strike which will negate 15 points of your foes' damage threshold (DT). Your character will get extremely op when you have superslam which can knock enemies over, unstoppable force- break through all those pesky blocks you enimies put up, and slayer--- all mele and unarmed attacks are swung 30% faster!!!

Some other building tips to remember is that Intelligence should always be 10 because over 30 levels every point less in Intelligence is 30 skill points lost. And always always always get educated at level 4 because those 2 extra skill points per level will really effect your character later on.

My serious character started like this:

Strength 5
Perception 8 (+)
Endurance 5
Charisma 4
Intelligence 10
Agility 6(+)
Luck 5

My TAG skills were Guns, Repair, and Lockpick.

I took the Small Frame (+1 Agility but limbs are more easily crippled)and Four Eyes (+1 perception when wearing glasses but -1 when not).

I'm thinking about making a "theif" class if you will because I love stealing stuff. And who doesn't like free sh1t?!

I was always into playing as Engineers/Mechanics in a lot of games, such as Team Fortress 2, Bad Company 2, and even in CoD Black Ops I made a Mechanic Class, but was kind of disappointed to see that you couldn't really make much of an Engineer in New Vegas, but this is my attempt at one.

Fallout New Vegas Engineer Build (w/ all DLC Volumes as of June 4th, 2011)

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. :
Strength ? 5
Perception ? 6
Endurance ? 5
Charisma ? 6
Intelligence ? 8
Agility ? 6
Luck ? 4

Tag Skills: Explosives, Repair, Science

Traits: Good Natured, Fast Shot

Perks :
2 ? Confirmed Bachelor
4 ? Educated
6 ? Gunslinger
8 ? Strong Back
10 ? Math Wrath
12 ? Robotics Expert
14 ? Splash Damage
16 ? Tag!
18 ? Computer Whiz
20 ? Jury Rigging
22 ? Sneering Imperialist
24 ? And Stay Back
26 ? Comprehension
28 ? Better Criticals
30 ? Light Step
(Dead Money)
32 ? Demolition Expert
34 ? Center of Mass
(Honest Hearts)
36 ? Nerd Rage
38 ? Pack Rat
40 ? The Professional

The Engineer uses one-handed weapons and uses his or her skills to set and dispose of minefields, repair weapons and armor, fix broken mechanics throughout the Mojave Wasteland, hack terminals for valuable information, change the direction of hostile turrets and robots on their side, and craft the most lethal weapons out of simple items he or she finds. A master of mechanical repair and technological sciences, they can manipulate the environment around them to do the ?light? work for them.

My main build is Guns, Sneak, and Repair

I usually snipe them and I have the Professional Perk so it does more damage for a sneak kill.

My, boredom account, is a walking powerhouse as I used the 28 perks glitch (with Honest Hearts its 38 perks) to just make him a walking terror

My main build is medicine, energy weapons and science and I usually roll round in the Desert Ranger Armour set along with the YCS gauss rifle and the Matter Modulator. My side build is using Melee, Repair and Lockpick, using the Oh Baby! and a chainsaw.

I have Plasma Spaz, Laser Commander and Maths Whiz on my main, since I use VATS mostly.

I've made dozens of characters in New Vegas, and tagged every skill at least once, even Survival and Barter. If I were to make a serious character (to complete quests as quickly and efficiently as possible), Speech, Melee Weapons and Science would be my tag skills.

Strength would be high (duh) as would Endurance for implants. Charisma and Perception would be fairly low, maybe even 1. Even with 1 CHA, Boone can still wreck stuff. Intelligence would get a slight boost, and Luck. I'd take Four Eyes as a trait, and Small Frame or Good Natured (hardcore).

What is your Fallout: NV character build, level, and your opinion of their power level?
Mine is Gun, Speech, and repair based, and so far it's worked really nicely. I'm level 15 and have a perfect condition marksman carbine, as well as several other weapons in tip-top shape due to my repair skill
Just finished the game on "normal" mode with a pretty conventional character: guns and unarmed maxed out; science, survival, repair and barter increased to sixty - seventy percent each; speech and lockpick raised to exactly eighty (skill checks above that level are so rare that you can just use magazines for those skills). That's playing the "independant" path - allying with Yes-Man, etc. I started out as very much a "pacifist"-type character, which worked out surprisingly well; left levelling unarmed and guns until much later in the game. I used fairly high charisma, intelligence and endurance, and lower strength and luck.

But I have plans for:

- A hardcore survival player to align with the Legion (survival, explosives, melee, lockpick, repair, medicine, with high agility and strength but low charisma)

- A scientific player to align with the House (heavy armour and energy weapons, science, medicine, unarmed, repair, speech and barter, with high strength, perception and endurance but less charisma and agility)

As for aligning with the NCR, well, I'll think of something.

My main is a level 30 gunslinger, with speech, repair and lockpicking thrown in. NCR path, very good karma, vilified by the Legion (Boone, Rex and I murdered everyone in Caesar's camp for giggles.) His main guns are the Mysterious Stranger's Magnum (had to kill the bastard to get it. Who ups BARTER?) a anti-materiel rifle, whatever the top-tier lever-action rifle is called, and a silenced 10MM.
He cleared the Deathclaw Promontory without taking a scratch. Whaddya think? I spend a lot of time mix-maxing to get a badass.

My character is built around dispatching enemies as quickly and efficiently as possible through the use of critical strikes. Typically I use a shotgun for close-range combat (since each of the 7 projectiles can crit independently outside VATS, meaning its almost ALWAYS a 2-3 shot kill), and a silenced sniper rifle for ranged kills. I also always carry around a .45 AP silenced, for the casinos and when I'm sneaking in close range.

S 7(+)
P 7(+)
E 6
C 1
I 6
A 7(+)
L 10(+)

The skills I maxed out first were Guns, Lockpicking, Sneak, and Melee. Survival came soon after since this was a hardcore game.

The only trait I took was Built to Destroy.

Notable perks:
Finesse, Better Criticals, The Professional, Ninja, Light Touch, Shotgun Surgeon, And Stay Back!, Hunter, Travel Light, Hand Loader.

Notable items:
Weapons-- Riot Shotgun+ or Dinner Bell; Christine's COS Silencer Rifle; .45 AP+; combat knife.
Apparel-- Joshua Graham's armor; NCR 1st Recon beret; Lucky Shades.

Typically i craft hand-loaded ammo, or Magnum for the shotgun.

responses?

I have a level 24 and a level 22.

The level 24 is Guns, Sneak, and Repair
The level 22 is Energy Weapons, Unarmed and Lock-picking

If you want my advice, Guns > Energy Weapons and starting with very high endurance + Unarmed is amazing. Every point put into endurance early becomes a free stat for implants later, so starting with anything less than 8 endurance is just wrong.

I also find repair to be useless, I would never tag it again.

I might make a new character which is Guns + Explosives + Melee Weapons and play the cowboy thing out. It might be fun to use only cowboy type weapons, the only problem I have with that is knowing strength based melee is way worse than endurance based melee.

Whaaaaaat? two words: "Jury Rigging." Its all about caps, my friend... How do you want to spend yours? I prefer to spend mine on stimpacks and water than on repair.

You only need Speech and Sneak really, well not even Sneak but it's handy. You can finish the main plot with just speech and high luck. Not very good for a lot of the side quests though.

I tried speed running with that build and finished it in under 4 hours at lvl 9 (although jumped to 11 when finished the last quest)

You get more caps/stimpacks than you could ever use without it, so why waste a perk and 90+ skill points when you could be slightly less rich but with a stronger character overall?

That's my reasoning for why I will never bother with repair again.

Just started a new play through of New Vegas.

Currently level 5 specializing in Medicine, Guns, and Repair.

I mostly use a 9mm pistol with a scope and the cowboy repeater rifle at the moment.

Don't have particularly good damage yet, but it gets the job done. Haven't run into anything that I had too much trouble killing.
