What is your Fallout: NV character build, level, and your opinion of their power level?
Mine is Gun, Speech, and repair based, and so far it's worked really nicely. I'm level 15 and have a perfect condition marksman carbine, as well as several other weapons in tip-top shape due to my repair skill

Well, my TAG skills are Guns, Repair and Sneak. I fancy using a scoped trail repeater, though before that, I used the Cowboy Repeater (overlooking it's irritating iron sights) for a majority of the time. If things got close, I opted for the 9mm pistol. My character is more of a sniper than anything else. I think Boone put it quite well when describing my play style: "We're the last thing they'll never see." I travel with Raul to keep my equipment in prime condition as much as possible.

I have two characters. My serious character and my lollet'sdowhateveriwant character.

My serious character is dumb and boring; small guns, sneak, and repair.

My stupid character is way more fun; big guns, thrown/explosives (whichever one is for grenades), and melee weapons. Nothing is quite as satisfying as beating a man near to death and then shoving a grenade up his cornhole.

My character is a gunslinger that also specializes in explosives. I'm not sure how well it works compared to other character builds, but I'm not having to much trouble so far. The biggest problem with this character is that I didn't factor in strength needed to properly handle a weapon, so my accuracy is piss poor. However, I found a simple way to work around this with most guns; I just keep my character drunk, all the time. The strength bonus from alcoholic beverages allows me to properly handle the weapons I use most often. So I'm always buying more beer and shoving it into ED-E to ensure that I never run out. I have an advanced flying robot, and I'm using it as a mobile booze dispenser.

I also just "acquired" a missile launcher through methods that are not shady in any way. I'm betting I can have some fun with it. KABOOM!

EDIT: Am I the only one who's framerate is butchered by the Strip? My computer isn't outdated or anything like that.

I've made two characters so far. One is level 24 and his tagged skills are speech, guns, and repair. The other is lever 16 and his tagged skills are explosives, melee, and barter. My level 24 character uses a silenced sniper rifle and Lucky. My other character uses Thump-Thump and a chainsaw. Honestly I'm having more fun using explosives and melee more than anything else. Firing a couple of grenades into a group of enemies, and then chasing down the survivors with a chainsaw is just so much fun. But picking off enemies hundreds of yards away while they run around in confusion is also pretty satisfying.

My character is high strength and intelligence, maxed out in Science and Melee, also close to maxing out in repair and speech (it bothers me soooo much when I don't meet a speech requirement, so I have to have this skill high) while having moderately high medicine and survival. My main weapon at the moment is Nephi's Driver. And I pretty much do right by the Followers of the Apocalypse most of the time.

For the account I am playing now I am testing one of the character archetypes on hardcore but I will soon try out a different personal character build.

I really need to rethink and start again... my current character has stats spread all over the place. Think the tag skills were Guns, Repair and Science but I've made a complete hash of distributing skill points since then.

I'd probably do well to make a character completely avoiding certain things - I've never tried, but is it possible to take all the points away from certain skills in character creation? If it is, I'd zero out Explosives/Energy Weapons/Sneak, putting more points into Guns/Medicine/Repair.

I'm also tempted to create another save just for messing around... having a character specialise in Unarmed/Melee sounds like fun.

Melee can be stupidly overpowered if you pick perks for it correctly. But it will make the game feel more like you're playing Oblivion, because you kinda are.

So far I'm having a blast with Sneak/Explosives/Repair, and running around as the Mad Bomber. Plant C4 or lit dynamite on people while sneaking around, have a good laugh.

Nah I have to play my 360 version because my framerate dies when a character animates in anyway at all. Very annoying especially with a good computer running it

On Topic, just finished my Hardcore runthrough and my Tag Skills were Guns, Speech, Barter and Survival. The latter is essential later in hardcore mode as food starts to run out. But in general I'm a smooth talker with a pistol and a suit, only at the end did I gear up in Ranger Power armour

Guns, lockpick, speech and sneak. (I choose the fourth skill perk)

First you break into somewhere, then, if caught, try and talk your way out. If all that fails, BANG BANG. I also had a fairly high repair skill since its used fairly frequently.

My S.P.E.C.I.A.L goes something like this.... :

Strength: 9
Perception: 1
Endurance: 5
Charisma: 1
Intelligence: 10
Agility: 10
Luck: 5

TAG skills: Guns, Science, Lockpicking

I'm about level 3-4 now. Only just started playing. How am i finding it? Annoying that i can't persuade anyone ( 7 speech lol ) but having perfectly repaired stuff, cracking open computers and doors and being able to pick blokes off from miles away is very useful for survival purposes. I'm also playing on Hardcore mode. I see no reason for the Survival skill, i have no trouble scavenging decent food and drink! The idea is to pump perks into anything that increases my accuracy and damage in and outside of VATS and damage resistance. Also the weight perk so i can carry tonnes of ammo. I got 10 intelligence so i can get the maximum amount of skill points when i level up, and the boost to Science meant i practically started that skill at 50. Although my low perception means Energy Weapons begins at 7, i don't see myself using them very much to be honest. Ammo was so plentiful for them back in fallout 3, but i never liked energy weapons as much as good ol' fashioned gunpowder and bullets.

up until level 16 I was a rifle toting do-gooder clad in the armor of an NCR ranger who's unit met an unfortunate end at the hands of a Legion hit-squad. I had devoted most of my XP to my Guns, lockpick, Science, and repair skills. My weapons set was a cowboy repeater for pitched firefights, the 9mm for close-range defense, and the varmint rifle for most other uses. However, all that changed after a fateful encounter with a group of heavily armed mercenaries wile poking around to the north of Vegas. These mercs would proceed to absolutely destroy me every time I engaged them, especially what appeared to be their leader, A man dressed in what looked like prototype power armor and a fighter pilots flight helmet, and wielding a devastating rifle weapon. I somehow managed to lure him away from his group and ambush him from behind as he walked past me. After relieving the fellow of his armor and weapon, I stood there in possession of the YCS-186 custom Gauss Rifle, the most powerful, devastating, and accurate weapon in the game. never before have I based an entire character around a single weapon. I quickly leveled up my energy skill and was soon headshoting Deathclaws from whatever the maximum render distance would allow. I am currently a level 22 power armor clad Brotherhood of Steel Palladin, still kicking wholesale ass with my YCS-186

I'm playing hardcore mode, and I'm a sniper that dumped luck in favor of intelligence. (I like to say "I make my own luck." It'll probably mean I'll never, ever win anything in a casino, but oh well.) SPECIAL is: Strength: 6, Perception: 6+2 Glasses/Foureyes, Endurance: 7 (Not totally within my archetype, but it's handy), Charisma: 4, Intelligence: 8, Agility: 7, Luck: 2. As my tag skills, I took repair, guns, and medicine (although I really should have taken sneak instead of medicine, but I'm focusing on sneak a lot now.) I'm basically going for a sniper build that's also balanced at operative skills like science and lockpicking. Obvious entry perks were four-eyes and disciplined shooter. I'm only level 4 at the moment, but I'm doing well with a fully-modded Varmint rifle. I've got a shotgun for close range and a healthy amount of dynamite for the bigger emergencies. The biggest thing I've gotta watch out for right now is robots, I'll be wanting a pulse gun before I find them.

I tried to run an all melee/unarmed character, and try to be completely bad and terrorize towns but it got dull after awhile.

I think I'm going try to max out Luck on my next character, to see if it makes a difference.

I use a character archetype out of the strategy guide, just because it is an awesome build:

S:6
P:8
E:5
C:2
I:2
A;8
L:9

Gun, Sneak, Repair.

Four Eyes, Small Frame.

It is an awesome stealthy sniper class for Very Hard/Hardcore mode.

Coupled with Boone and ED-E as followers, it is a master class!

Gun,Repair, and lockpicking

I'll do good deed for the people of the wasteland, but I'll steal all your ammo, food, drink, stimpacks, and bottlecaps, hell i manage to steal all those consumables on the shelf in NCR Mojave outpost bar.

I use guns in the fight(obviously) I haven't found a good automatic weapons yet,so i stick to my rifle and 10mil and single shotgun most of the time,Boone and the eyebot are the perfect companion for me since i tend to no-scope sniping dudes.
