Having started New Vegas in Hardcore mode, I have to say it's not all that rough. Sure, you have to keep an eye on your food and drink, but it doesn't seem to deplete all that fast, with your character being able to go days without food, water of sleep without much in the way of consequences.

Josh Sawyer, who is the project director on Fallout: New Vegas, has been quoted as saying, ?You get a very high value achievement.?

Has anyone actually managed the clear the game on Hardcore yet?

Steam would suggest that 0.1% of players have managed the task so far.

(And yet no-one has won 30 games of Caravan. Psh.)

Well the achievement list says...

Hardcore (100) - Play the game from start to finish in Hardcore Mode

So that would support this pretty much.

Is the special reward a fresh set of NO MORE GLITCHES? That would be the best reward ever.

Maybe it will be the other half of Kotor 2 that they forgot to release.
Haha, that would be funny. I bet it would still be as buggy as hell though.

I'll be doing this at some point. Probably second playthrough. It's good that they're doing this, reminds me of the old Fallout days.

As for caravan, I tried it, then thought "meh, too difficult to learn". I might try learning it on my third playthrough :p
I found the most difficult part of Caravan to be figuring the controls out. Only skimmed through the instruction booklet, and the in-game instructions only dealt with the rules. :p

It isn't an avatar item, it would be listed in the awards section otherwise, even before you unlock it, also take note it says after you finish the main story, so I can completely imagine it being an amazing in game item.

Edit, I love hardcore mode. I've been waiting for a game that forces you to drink since Dark Cloud...yeah Level 5 rock!

Props to Obsidian I suppose.

Maybe it's just an acheivement for the first part of the game, but you get some sweet DLC bonus perks, or maybe even a free DLC? That would be kinda cool!

I just beat the game, and I had Hardcore mode enabled the whole time, but did not get the achievement for some reason...

Pretty pissed about that one...

The Hardcore mode thing is a complete sham. You're constantly worrying about your companions dying whenever you see a cazador cuz they're ridiculously over powered and you can't have more than three or four guns cuz the ammo ways you down so much. And what do you get in return? A lousy 100 point achievment. Special reward my ass I got more for beating halo on Normal.

so i just did a little searching and all i can find is things like this article about how there will be a special reward. does anyone know what the reward is or hasnt it be revealed yet? or is it just the hardcore achievment. do achievments mean anything on pc?

or is the reward going to come into play with the dlc or something?

i finished it on normal hardcore mode. i seriously think they could have made the eating drinking and sleeping a little harder. like you seemed to need to eat and drink like every few days but i think i slept like 2-3 times in the entire game. the way i interpreted the hardcore mode from previews was that if you didnt get food every day and water and sleep you would have negative stats like less perception and the longer you go with out sleep for example the worse it gets.

but you can wonder around needing water for ages with out any noticable affect.

It's nothing. Just an achievement/trophy.

No reward here, can't even play past the credits.

i honestly can't see them considering a "special reward" as 100G that you can easily view from the achivement list. They'll probably put something in at a later date. I tell you what i'd love though, a vault boy bobblehead. That'd be mean awesome.
