I will only be satisfied by a Chrysalis Motors Highwayman, with extra trunk space for all the shit I'll have to lug around in Hardcore. But I'm still doing this the first time through. It sounds awesome, like what STALKER was aiming for.

Other acceptable substitutes:

Deathclaw follower

Acid-spraying gun of some sort

Bozar

Childkiller mode

I really hope it's more than just an achievement, 'cause when my copy arrives tomorrow morning I'll be firing it up straight into hardcore mode and want something to show for it! >.>

Different world with different rules...so my first play through is on normal difficulty. It's been a while since I played Fallout 3...so I'm starting it off on a sane level to get used to it again and to get used to the new systems in play.

That said, I will be trying hardcore for my second playthrough. I just hope this isn't something like the "key to the city" contest for GTA 4. Where you had to hit 100% completion of the game before the deadline to get a "key to the city" in addition to the achievement in game (I did this, and I did get the key). If that's the case then I would expect them to actually announce such a reward...not using some vague popup just after starting the game. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is taking their first play though a little easier to enjoy the experience more and leaving this kind of reward vague would piss off a lot of people like me who have plans for hardcore, just not right away.

It'd be easy to assume that it's some kind of item. But that would be disappointing since if I wanted a set of armor or a cool new weapon I could just download a mod. Would be awesome if it turned out to be a hidden quest that you can unlock after finishing the game in hardcore mode. Or maybe unlocking a hidden section of the map.

Its nothing. I've beaten the game on Hard Hardcore already, and all you get is the achievement. No Perks, Traits, Items or even acknowledgement.

Awww shit, now I'm gonna have to buy the mod (I mean game).

Well, at least it'll be difficult now! (or should be, I hope).

So there is no special reward.

Alright then.

The Reward: a high value trophy (ie the only Gold PS3 trophy)

Two problems with that.

1: I don't care about the Trophy
2: I'm getting it on the PC.

So yeah, no real "special reward".

I'm playing through on Hardcore. I don't find it all that challenging, honestly. I'm not too deep in, but in most Bethesda games, you have no problem finding food or beds the further in you get because you uncover more of the map and have a ton of money. My character does have high Survival and Science, though. I guess that helps. And I'm a melee character, so any guns and ammo I find are pretty much easy caps. I gotta say, I'm enjoying New Vegas a whole lot more than Fallout 3. Though I completed the main story in Fallout 3, I found the whole experience and atmosphere just one huge downer.

Mods = Their Own Reward.

End.

So the reward was something that anyone who's looked at an achievement or trophy site already knew about.

Really, they shouldn't call an achievement or trophy a special reward. It's not even a secret one, so as soon as you start the game on any platform (PS3, 360, and PC) you can see the full list of achievements and see the one for hardcore mode. Not so special anymore, at least not to me.

That actually sounds entertaining.
More entertaining than playing the Culligan Man Crusader; who delivered fresh water to Carlos to make up for all of the evil murders he committed.
