There's a point where almost any show (usually after season 5 or so), loses sight of it's characters and setting and starts conforming and contorting characters and the environment to achieve it's humour rather than allowing the humour to come from the characters and environment.

So Family Guy has been weird/bad for quite some time now, you are only just noticing. Congratulations, because I still know people who claim it's the funniest cartoon ever and it makes me nerd rage.

My opinion is that Family Guy hasn't been any good since season 4. This is like any TV series that just goes on for a while (which I will call Last-of-the-Summer-Wine-Syndrome). The nail in the coffin is that when the family had changed roles (as shown in the picture above) and the relience on jokes being put together by seacows.

family guy was never that good ,in a humour sense it was full of fart jokes and when it came out it was fresh it stared to get boring though, i like the way they turned to more "ironic" humour season 4 upward but that all so became stale(at the time i thought it was gonna be one of them rare shows that getter better the longer it gets), and stupid there running out of idea's and some episodes i like like the one with stewie and brian getting trapped in a room and some othera. But for anyone getting sick of it american dad is good. :)

Family Guy has been awful for years. I enjoyed their returning season, but after that, it just sucked balls. It's so bad now that it's hard to watch the original seasons and not feel like they are crap too.

Oddly, as Family Guy got worse, American Dad got better. I noticed a few Family Guy-isms floating into American Dad though, and after the Rapture episode, I'm calling it quits on American Dad so I don't get to watch it fall into the abyss too. The Rapture was a perfect ending to the show, and I just don't need to see more.
Awh, really? I haven't seen that much American Dad, but I've been finding it to be most enjoyable animated show going at the moment.[footnote]Metalocalypse's second season was way below par, and new futurama is really hit and miss. And a lot of miss from what I've seen.[/footnote] I don't want to see it start sucking too!
More specifically, they are throwing in random gags that have no bearing on the rest of the show. I always appreciated how AD was written where the random gags at the beginning of the episode would come back and affect the outcome at the end. There was a somewhat recent episode where Stan goes to a concert and says he feels alive. At that moment, the camera pans to the left and it shows that Johnny 5, the robot is part of audience and it also saying he feels alive. Sure, it was an amusing callback to the old 80's movie, but did Johnny 5 come back in the episode later to save the day? Nope. There were a few other examples, but I found that one to be the most striking of a Family Guy gag.

To everyone saying Family guy isn't funny anymore...maybe it has never been funny. I watched a few of the old episodes (like season 1 old) and I think everyone is looking at it through nostalgic hued glasses. It only really got good when the show cam back from the dead. But I will admit it has been going down hill.

I'm am pretty easily amused when it comes to that kind of show so I don't really care if it's "worse" than it used to be, I still watch it. If I wanted smart television I would.. turn off the television.

"Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't... nothing?"

(also I am finding the new Futurama pretty damn fantastic)

When I read "Liberal Douche" I laughed. It's so true it's funny.

Yeah, it's changing and it's not an improvement. I'm still watching it though.

For me they are finally getting away from the simpsonesque starting point and carving out their own style, fair enough if it is not for you but I personally prefer where they are going and I think it gets funnier with each episode, each to their own though I guess.

OT anyone seen Aqua Teen Hunger Force? I love IT
I watch the Aqua Teens all the time. It's hilarious. Shake's awesome.

On topic, Family guy has its ups and downs. Although it has been getting strange lately.

They might well be losing their touch, but it's still better than pretty much anything else on TV.

I used to really like family guy, but for the last couple years, it's seemed like they're trying to hard to get a laugh.

Maybe Family Guy and the Simpsons are perfect examples of why shows shouldn't go on for ever.
Here's a link to a cartoon I found on it.
http://www.cracked.com/article_18696_the-lifespan-every-tv-show-ever-5Bcomic5D.html

And by the link's above logic "Daria" was one of the best shows ever since it ended on it's high point, having gone only 5 seasons and two made for tv movies.

Yes, especially about Brian. I'm almost certain that he's become Seth McFarlane's mouthpiece and that he's taken full advantage of this oppourtunity. The episode where Quagmire exploded on Brian was the best one in a while.
