This looks awesome! Man I wish I could play that if it were real. Sonic Team/Dimps should either learn from this, or hire the guy.

GAH! STOP TEASING ME WITH AWESOMENESS!

Seriously, Sega would make a mint if they did something like this. Event the supposed Sonic 2 HD would be amazing.

the background music sounds like Donkey Kong, what with the steel drums.
Funny thing about that, That is the original theme that played in the game.

Hell, it makes me kind of thirsty. ( used to drink fruit punch when playing that game. Good times)

I agree with this guy...if only a little.

It the way how everything is BROWN, I mean the original one was brown but not like THIS.
The music is actually my favorite part of this video.

Nice....veeeeeery nice. This is what Sonic games should look like. It's not even nostalgia (well...not only) at work here. It just looks great.

The music is almost exactly as the original. What can anyone find wrong with it?

Wow this is amazing the graphics are even much better than any of the other sonic games
Well, bear in mind that the video is pre-rendered, so he didn't have to worry about FPS, polygon counts and the likes.

Keep in mind this is all pre-rendered, so I highly doubt they could actually make a 2.5D Sonic game that looks as great as this.

Yet.

Sonic adventure 2 was still pretty sweet though.
It wasn't horrible but it had horrible elements, IE being forced to switch characters every other level and having to treasure hunt.

The shooting wasn't bad. I'd even go so far as to say I liked it but it lacked pizzazz. Rail shooter segments ala Star Fox would have been better and they would have been a far better fit. Fast, frenetic, don't-worry-about-targeting-just-shoot... And the exploration aspect of the Knuckles/Rouge levels would have worked a lot better if the main objective wasn't so frustrating. I'd spend five minutes inching my way across the ground because I wasn't digging in -just- the right spot even though the radar indicated I was on top of an emerald.

I don't think every game type within a Sonic game has to revolve around speed but it hampers the experience when I can't complete a mission quickly when I'm skilled at the game. I wanted to get all the emblems, I really did, but I got tired of trying the tenth time I was on track for an objective only to fail because, again, I didn't dig at -just- the right spot the first five times I tried. SA1 was looser about this and it flowed much better.

2.5D isn't necessarily the answer for the Sonic series. Sega has made good 3D Sonics before, the problem is the slipshod design of the other game types and how they're forced on the player. SA1 was by far the most enjoyable 3D Sonic for the simple fact that I could play as Sonic without interruption to the end of his storyline. Everything else was optional but it was designed well enough that it was enjoyable to explore the game from those different perspectives. (With the exception of Big's segment.) There's no reason they can't do that again. There's also no reason to assume a 2D game made by Sonic team would be anything like the Genesis games.

tl;dr: It's not the type of game that's a problem, it's the developer.

Wow. I haven't even played Sonic past Sonic And Knuckes and if they apply this treatment to the first few games then I just might become a customer again.

Ya know, at first Iw anted to say "guys guys, come on, it's not that easy. This is akin to a CG trailer, not a real game"

but the more I look at it, the more it seems like "SON OF A B***CH IT WORK OUT!" most of the background and forgroudn stuff could be done EXACTLY the same way as the dude did it here because you dont actually interact with it! that just leaves enemies and and simple walk animations which i'm sure a TEAM of experienced animators could do. Sure the lighting and such might be harder to do but look at some of the stuff in Alein Swarm, its not only possible its PLAUSABLE.

I'm not a huge Sonic fan (especially not recently), but... damn. That 40 second clip looks better than anything Sonic Team has put out for years. I find myself wanting it to be real (despite having little nostalgia for the character).
