Keep in mind this is all pre-rendered, so I highly doubt they could actually make a 2.5D Sonic game that looks as great as this.

Yet.
They totally could, look at Shadow Complex on 360 a XBL download that looks fantastic for that. Or Just Cause 2, that game is insanely pretty and you can move quite fast.

Sega can't do it because they're colossal morons when it comes to Sonic. Seriously I love Segas older stuff but they need to leave it to other people to make their games now recent Sonic titles proves this, Sonic 2006, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Heroes, Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Seriously, Sega just let the guys from Street Fighter 4 (guys who did the day levels in Unleashed) handle it.

the background music sounds like Donkey Kong, what with the steel drums.
Funny thing about that, That is the original theme that played in the game.

Hell, it makes me kind of thirsty. ( used to drink fruit punch when playing that game. Good times)
No, its definitely a remix check for yourself.

My idea for my senior prodject for my animation class ( We use 3d studio max ) was exactly like this except for the original one.

I'm torn between admiration for how good the clip looks and how inane it is spending three weeks worth of spare time recreating a scene from a video game. I hope the artist responsible is actually planning on using it in some manner of audition/resume and is not simply obsessed with a fifteen-plus-year-old game. (Not that there's anything wrong with liking such a game, or even playing same. But three weeks recreating a couple of minutes on video? That's... something else.)

I am a sad Sega fan.
I want to sing Sega's praises, I really do. They just refuse to give me anything to gloat about...
Its actually gotten to the point where the fandom is making things that look better than the official releases.
I am a sad Sega fan.

That looks freaking awesome, but at the same time its a little depressing.
To think that a single person out did what an entire company have attempted over years and years.
I mean, I know its not even real gameplay footage, just rendered tracings of the old game, but the fact that it felt more satisfying than anything the official team has produced just leaves me feeling a littled pissed.

So is this what Sonic fans do instead of finding a franchise to fawn over that doesn't suck?
Because for the fans that been there since the "Genisis does what Nintendon't", Sonic is their childhood memories. It is like being told to put down your childhood dog because it has lost control of its bowls in its old age.

Hey Sega! Hire this guy!
At least he remembers the good old games, and he looks like he knows what he's doing!

I dunno, I think it might be possible... but on the current Wii? I don't know. It would probably be too HD for the system. They'd have to dumb-down the graphics a little, I would think.

Then again, maybe the Wii is hardier than we give it credit for.

I liked the video!

This looks visually nice, in my opinion. Perhaps Sega should be taking some pointers?

Oh, man. I remember seeing that video hours ago. Still looks awesome. Sadly, it's more awesome than Sonic 4.

really really impressive, sure he could have done this to a number of current arguably 'better' titles but thats missing the point.

some real time and talent went into this.

This is how it should be, 2D sonic with amazingly detailed and vivid graphics.

This is a great example of what a nice, clean 2.5D Sonic game should be. I'm still waiting for a hand-drawn 2D Sonic title myself, but it looks like the only way Sonic fans can get what they want nowadays is to make it themselves.

At least the video showed off the great platforming of the old games and not just SPEED, SPEED, SPEED; I miss that aspect.
