Calvin and Hobbes, I think.
Pondus is a good contender as well.
Calvin and Hobbes are perhaps the greatest thing that ever evolved in the history of drawing things. Love it so much :)

Well i have been reading quite some comics as a teen.
I got a lot of the classics : Spiderman, Batman, Star wars-albums. The great Alien Vs Predator (the older albums and the newer series). And my big proud: A huge lot of Superman/Batman out of the 50s/60s yknow this stuff

Y-the last man
Walking dead
The authority
The ultimates

I'd also like to make an honorable mention of Astounding wolf man. It's really really good.

Ok,It´s really hard to pick just 5 titles but i´ll name a few that i enjoy. To make this more interesting, i´ll try to define each title in one word. In no special order:

1-Calvin and Hobbes (it is brilliant in so many ways. Bill Waterson captures a bit of everyone´s childhood with amazing artwork. One word to describe it:TIMELESS)

2-Preacher(if you like Tarantino-esque action with a gripping storyline and great characters, read all 66 issues. One word to describe it: FUN)

3-Watchmen(a very intersting storyline where Alan Moore deconstructs the super-hero genre. One word to describe it: CLEVER)

4-The Walking Dead (it´s an AMC hit for a reason, it has a tense narrative with great cliffhangers, where you feel that no character is safe. One word to describe it: ADDICTIVE)

5-The Stand(a great adaptation of one of Stephen King´s greatest masterpieces, it depicts a post-apocalyptic world where a group of survivors takes a stand against evil forces leaded by a mysterious man.One word to describe it: EPIC)

Should've gone before we left.

One of the best comics to come out of Europe since ever. I would recommend it to anyone. Sure, there are some emdiocre issues, but they never go beneath that in terms of quality. A few specific issues (if you can get your hands on 'em) Requiem for a Monster, Memories of an Invisible World (I think that's the name), Phobia, Who Killed Santa Claus, Mirror of the Soul (translating as best I can) and The Price of Death.

Blacksad too. Wonderful art, bitching stories and the crabcakes aren't bad either.

And what list would be complete without the fantastic Punisher MAX series. Garth Ennis singlehandedly made the Punisher more awesome than he was. And that took skill!

BTW anyone know if the Amazing Spider-man is worth buying? I got the Happy Birthday TPB and now I'm interested in getting the previous volumes but have no idea if it would be worth the money.

pretty hard for just 5 titles but:
1) the Sandman (neil Gaiman)
2) Watchmen (Alan Moore)
3) 52 (4 writers but most proeminently Geoff Johns)
4) the latest Green Lantern run written by Geoff Johns
5) Garth Ennis's Punisher MAX series (plain awesome)

1. Identity Crisis
Mostly because of the emotional things that take place in it. DC really put some effort into the storytelling here and it payed of. Loads hate it, I love it to death.

2. Death in the Family
Robin dies. And not in a lame way. He's the hero near the end of the book and you feel sorry for him. Never thought they had the balls to do it, but they did.

3. The entire Morrisson run on Batman
As lose arcs, they were okay. As a whole, they were awesome. Topping at 49 issues, this story is a beast and is insanely deep and interesting. And it will probably take 20 reads before you know what 100% happened.

4. Obelix and Co.
Not really a comic. But this strip is genius. Everything is simply perfect.

5. Scott Pilgrim #4
Best in the series, nuff said.
