The 1911 .45 APC pistol. because it has a big round ( when 9mm dosent get the message through) and that its been through pretty much all warefare in the 20th-21st century, the only draw back is bigger round = smaller clip capacity but that means you just got to bring more clips. I know how to strip it down put it back together and I bough a +2 magazine and thats pretty awesome. you would have a good chance winning a fight with it.

Bearing in mind that I have no experience handling firearms personally whatsoever, here are a few of my favourite guns:

Gaming? The Perforator from Fallout 3. When combined with the Chinese Stealth Armor, an instant I Win Button.

Real Life? The M3 Grease Gun from WW2. I've got a soft spot for it aesthetically. Honorable mention to the Colt M1911 .45 pistol, one of the single most versatile firearms ever invented and the one I'd carry if I were personally picking a sidearm for myself.
High five.

The LesBaer Commander. It's a M1911 style pistol that is hand built and fires .45 ACP rounds. My dad has 1 and the other models like the Stinger with a shorter barrel. The Commander is my personal favorite. I've fired it before, it's a beautiful gun. I also like the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan. Shoots .454 Casul(spelled it wrong) and has a 3 inch barrel. Yeah. Also can shoot .45 Long Colt. I've fired it with .45, I'm not brave enough to shoot the .454 (plus it might break my wrist).Might edit and post a pic if my internet speeds up enough.
The .454 is like getting into a car accident. Repeatedly. On Purpose. My friend's Super Redhawk (not Alaskan, it's got the 7.5" barrel) ended up making my shoulder hurt after the better part of 2 boxes (There were several of us, one of us wouldn't shoot it, my ex and I finished off the rest of the ammo we brought lol). It's... an experience.

Does your dad's have the original grips or aftermarket?

The aftermarket I believe. I'm not sure how you managed two boxes. Watching my dad shoot it in .454, even me shooting it in .45, is just insane. With earplugs and muffs together it's still loud.
We're doing all our shooting at an outdoor range, which really helps with the reports. Especially since there are a TON of trees out there, so the trees really help absorbing what would otherwise be an ear-shattering experience. If you DO fire the .454, do it standing from a weaver stance, not the straight on you usually see with target shooters. And hold on TIGHT. I wasn't kidding when I described it as a car accident, the gun kicks like CRAZY, so just hold on like crazy, lean into it, and expect your arms to go over your head. =p

doesn't the m4 and m16 fire the 5.56x45mm?? that's why we have the SCAR-H fire full sized 7.62x51mm and it'll be just as effective as the beowulf
The 5.56 round is a .22 caliber. The 7.62 is about .30 caliber (about because I am not 100%). A .50 cal round is roughly 12.6mm. Close to double the size of the 7.62. It is a lot heavier and has a harder impact. The SCAR-H has more range than the Beowulf, but 200 yards is more than enough range (since at that range without a good scope, most enemies are smaller thant your iron sights). It is a lot more effective in urban combat since it can go through more barriers like concrete walls and what not without issue. But it has less shots per clip and can't go full-auto, which means you have to pick your shots.
I prefer having to pick your shots over spray-and-pray, which is why I like the M1 Garand over modern weapons.

I carry a stainless Springfield Mil-Spec 1911.

A Protecta Bulldog shotgun would be pretty cool though.

As for everyone that says they've never really shot a gun, go to the nearest range and rent a couple! If you're in America, we live in one of the few countries that recognize the right to do so. Take advantage of it and experience something new. It's really fun too.

I like shotguns. Because... er... you don't have to aim much with them. In games, at least.
And the pump thing's all like "chunk-chunk". Yeah.

As you may have guessed, I am neither a big gun fan nor skilled in the art of good reasons.

There are places here in the UK where you can go if you want to fire a few guns - though only really in rural areas. Gun ownership isn't illegal in Britain, you just need to be able to provide a good reason to obtain a license and you need a different type of license for different types of firearm.

This thread has been done and redone... and it kinda makes me wonder if the Escapist is just a collection of gun nuts...

Ok two things. First to everyone who picked the Ferguson rifle *facepalm* the thing was a frickkin nightmare. The Baker was a far superior rifle the only reason the Ferguson is remembered is because it is an early example of Breech-Loading rifle.

Anyway now onto mine:

The Astra 900. When a machine pistol needs to look cool

It is a Spanish clone of the C96 Design except it is designed to have full auto capability while you have to modify the C96 to fire full auto.

The Smellie.

Purely because it is so pretty. Also a ten bullet clip when the norm was five? Yes please.

The EM-2

You can keep your L86 I want one of these. This piece of work was built in 1951. Tis awesome.

The FN FAL

*Picture is of an SLR but they are essentially the same*

When you need to hit someone use a rifle. When you need to hit them through cover use an FAL or...

M14

There are many more weapons on my list. Hell I haven't touched SMG's and Supports but I think i'll leave my list at this.
