How is Shadowrun 4th? I'm tempted but the rules complexity I hear about scares me.

And how is AFMBE? Rules heavy or light? Easy to make one-shot "everyone dies"? Easy to convert to, say, aliens or mutants? Are there any aids for small town/city/mall building?

Jawless:
Yep, I played a couple different versions of that kind of manhunt.

Anybody who said Talisman and Zombies!!!:
You people rock

I enjoy Warhammer 40K and Fantasy, Magic and the old but broken Star Wars card game (as long as the two players have decks based on the same planet or starship decks).

Beyond that:
Black Jack, Poker, Canasta, Catan, D&D, Machiavelli, Puerto Rico, Trivial Pursuit, Atmosfear (boooyaaah!), Hero Quest, Chez Geek, Bang!, Toepen (no idea what that is in English), Klaverjassen (ditto), Sink or Swim, etc etc... (when the D&D games got stale after so many years we started searching for other stuff, we got dozens of board and cardgames now.)

Manhunt. And not the crappy video game Rockstar released.

This game is like a more desperate hide and seek, where a team of people hunts one person in a large area, like a forest or a park. It never goes into violence of course, but it is fun for hardened people. I like playing at night time, you hand the hunters white clothing and torches and the hiders black clothing and a smaller light source. Hold the runner still and then you've won.

I guess no ones played it..have they?
Yep. Played with my friends when we were in college. Broke into the grounds of our school and played in the woods. My friend Chris had the distinct advantage of wearing camo so he kinda won all of them. Maybe if I hadn't been fumbling around in a bush with Hellene I might have bothered more. Arh crazy days...

Twister, with a couple of hot twins :D. Seriously though the only gaming I do is video games, other than that it's usually sports (basketball and tennis to be specific). But I haven't played cards or board games since the late 80's, you can thank Nintendo for that.

To be honest, and I do this with any P&P game system, I dumb the rules down as much as possible so they can be understood even by the biggest noob, because finding other people to play with can be a pain. The books just basicly sit there as inspiration, that's it.

I try to get them into the idea of using one's imagination to create a character, then I tell them the setting, they decide what to do, it it involves another player I might do a bit of rule enforcement but otherwise, I basicly just fudge it to try to figure out what will be the most fun for those playing. Yeah, I know, its not exactly the way it was meant to be used, but desperate times call for desperate measures, so I try to make it really, really accessible to new players - like telling an imaginary story to a child and they participate.

So to answer your question, the rules are different than D&D but no more or less complex when you delve into the books. My favourite thing about the P&P is writing stories for the setting that are flexible and drawing up dungeons for crawls - like this one I designed for new players, where they basicly fall in with the wrong crowd, get dropped off at the bottom of a mine shaft almost butt naked, and then the not very nice patrons of the tavern above the mine watch how the events unfold for the unfortunate adventurer(s) through magic crystal balls of a sorts, making bets on how long they will survive. Oddly enough, there is a long forgotten secret to the mine that the evil entertainment tavern is unaware of, and should the adventurer(s) discover its secret, there is a very good chance they could not only escape the abandoned mine but go on to kick the whole evil town's ass, should they so choose and given the crap the local establishments just put them through, probably will.

I hope you're ok with me stealing that plot idea.

In terms of roleplaying games, I'm a bit in love with WFRP (Warhammer fantasy roleplaying), and for board games? Too many to choose-

Ticket to Ride, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Imperial, Puero Rico, Articulate....

I love playing zombie tag, a version of the classic schoolyard tag, with my friends.
For card games, I find War and Blackjack very enjoyable.

... or I, y'know, read a book.

edit: I loved playing 'THE FLOOR IS LAVA!' when I was a child. I used to dismantle all of the couches in the room (we have a lot of couches) and use them as bridges or stepping stones or pile them really high and see how long I could sit on top of them without them toppling over and sending me to my doom.
That was a long-ass sentence.

Oh yeah! Manhunt. We have a thing in this city where a bunch of people play it downtown. We hardly ever get hassled by security guards, I swear.

I wouldn't mind at all, the devil's in the details, so in all likely hood, your version of the survival horror for some evil bastages entertainment will be completely different than mine.

"The floor is lava!" is like the original platform jumper for kids. I loved playing that game :D

dark eldar ftw.

ok, explanation needed to pre-empt any argument. Im not just jumping on the bandwagon here

DE are fast, at everything, the build quick, the move quick and they kill quick, they can put down any army in under 10 minutes if used properly, and when teamed as an auxiliary force with a Space marines or Sisters player, scourges and hellions act as the ultimate support troops, acting as sword shield and scalpel.

DE will cut down an inexperienced player every time, and have the ability to compete with he big boys when an 8 player game gets protracted, i mean, Dais of destruction can dark scythe to kill any non commander infantry in the game one hit, and then with rekindle rage, do it again.

also, jetbikes are the pwn in coolness as well as awesome
I'm guessing you didn't read the title of the topic?

I like Trivia games, Scrabble, and a variety of card games (Texas Hold 'em, Rummy, Gin, Hearts, Spades).

and... when I can find a good group, I love to play a good campaign or 3 or Hunter: The Reckoning, or a good thrilling 'creepy' Gurps game. (and yeah, if it's a good group, I'll even create the campaign...)

I play GURPS, which is somewhat similar to DND, and also play Texas Hold'em, as well as Blackjack.
