Played it for the first time last year, still blows most everything out of the water.

I wish I could get it working on my pc, but I run windows 7 so...

I'm running it on W7. Mind you, I downloaded it off Steam and Steam is good with compatibility issues...

Do you recommend it to someone who usually doesn't play games this old?

No video game rpg can compare to table-top rpgs. D&D... Star Wars... World of Darkness... Cthulhu... Paranoia... whatever your poison is, they are all good. The scope of choices a player has can not and will not be matched in computer rpgs (at least not without serious tech advances).

Furthermore, the camaraderie of a group of players who have just outwitted their gamemaster/defeated the big bad/discovered the mutha of treasure hoards is, in my opinion, one of the main reasons why computer rpgs will always pale in comparison to the the original.

That being said, I do play a great deal of crpgs. Some examples...played the classic SSI games...Ultima... Baldur's/icewind/torment...I love pretty much anything from bioware... the original fallouts and the newer models. However, these are just to pass time when I am away from the table and my gaming buddies.

That was actually supposed to be VIII, not 7, I made a mistake, but in any case, uhh.. yeah Final Fantasy VII is definately more of an RPG than Mass Effect II.

Leaning more towards dungeons and dragons, having a similar setup and even monsters from the DnD series ie. (bandersnatches, sahagin's and various other assorted creatures) does.
Not just a longer story, but also a better written one, by far.
At least Final Fantasy VII's story is original. Mass Effect(as much as I loved the first one) is just ripped out of Arthur C Clarke's "The Sentinel".

Insecure teenager is somehow has to save the peaceful world from an identical evil established early in the game. Along the way, he rides big birds, whines about how insecure he is and spends 5 hours in the bathroom sorting out his hair each morning. Final Fantasy games are very, very, very, very similar in game and concept, and identical in characters and story. Final Fantasies stories are about as original as making a the cake was a lie reference. And the majority of people who try to sell them as original are just "Boohoo im 2 deep 4 u sepirot 4ever" weeaboos.

Mass Effect may be ripped from just about every science fiction novel or film ever made, but its still a fuck ton better than any Final Fantasy story.

You have just proven that you haven't actually played many of the final fantasies, (if any).
The protagonists of the final fantasy series are actually very rarely insecure about themselves (the main one with self-esteem issues being Squall). You have no valid basis to which to make your argument, whereas I have played and Finished Mass effect 1 and 2, Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV, VI, VII, VII, IX, X and X-2, XII, and XIII, as well as Tactics, Tactics Advance, and the 4 heroes of light.

I am aware of the thread. I am also aware of the other 200000 bioware hate threads in which biohaters and biodrones battle it out in a way reminiscent of console fanboys.

A few posts back you started arguing opinions, presenting your own opinion as fact and dismissing my opinions as false. Dont believe me? Go one or two pages back. I guess opinions are fine unless someone has one thats different to yours, eh?

The whole premise of Mass Effect is ripped straight out of The Sentinel. At least the storie's in FF are original.
I'm also not replying to your next post as you're clearly biased against FF and say nothing but praise for Mass Effect II.
I tried to like Mass Effect 2, I even bought the collector's edition. I was nothing but disappointed. The final fantasy series have problems sure, but none so glaringly obvious as Mass Effect II.
I at least have played and finished all the aforementioned games. How many have you finished?

The final Fantasy serie's stories are definately better written than Mass Effect II. That's a fact. Have you ever delved into the entire plot for Final Fantasy VII? It's as complex and in depth as the Metal Gear Solid series.

I like the MGS series, but it's certainly not for the story, and the FF series just takes its WTFuckery to galactic levels. "Complex" and "in depth" does not equal "good". Like I said, I like the MGS series (although I find FF to be more annoying than a 13 year old screeching bimbo), but I think I've never faced-palmed as hard or as often as when I played MGS2 ages ago. And that was the game I bought the PS2 for!

I thought Raiden was a good idea. Fans got too comfortable playing as Snake and it was a brave move just ditching all that and bringing in a new character that no-one could identify with immediately.
In the end, did you finish Metal Gear Solid 2?
I know I sure have, alot of times. It's still a damn good game, even by today's standards, before the action shooter borderline rpg idea of MGS4. I loved MGS4, but it was hardly a stealth game unless you went for the stealth camo (no alerts) and the bandanna (no kills). That made the game worth playinfg for me. Playing it normally was disappointing though.
You know a really decent stealth game with some awesome concepts in regards to setting and use of dynamic lighting?
Velvet Assassin. I love that game, though if you're spotted you're dead. The combat system isn't fantastic, sadly.

I did indeed finish it. In fact, I went on vacation to the beaches of Spain and took the PS2 with me so I'd finish the game (and GT3). And by the end, my forehead must've been burning hot from all the palms hitting it, like a non-stop barrage!
