I disagree, i am not using the word loosely. What does RPG stand for? Role playing game, correct? Which basically means the person is given a character to play as and take on the persona of this fictional character right? All those games i mentioned are RPG. Regardless if they are serious games and are all rather cartoon like, they are still rpgs. how can you not consider Ocarina of Time a rpg? or FFX for that matter?? yes i do agree Neverwinter Nights is awesome though.bushwhacker2k said:I'm not trying to shoot down your opinions but did you miss the word RPG or are you just using it rather loosely?mbug said:Dragon Quest 7 - characters, look of the game, just the whole game in general is awesome!
FFX - i loved the soundtrack its perfection.
Jak and Daxter 1-3 - just so damn fun! XD
BanjoKazooie - Classic. The 64 had some of the best games ever. It was awesome, get on it if you haven't yet.
Super Mario Sunshine - was just so merry!
lets go with a stereotype shall we?
Ocarina of Time - had everything a game wanted or needed, ticked all my boxes.
I would say Neverwinter Nights (1, mind you, 2 made me cry, in a bad way).
I can't really pull anything else off the top of my head, I like a lot of RPGs, but so few are in the league of NWN.
Well, technically you have to be using the term loosely, because if that's your explanation 99% of all games are RPGs, which makes the term absolutely useless.mbug said:I disagree, i am not using the word loosely. Pretty much all this guy said too, barring the Azure Bonds, and adding Fallouts and Eldarscrolls 4. XDbstrothe said:There are a lot of great games on this list, so in the interest of not repeating what's already been said, here are are few which have yet to be mentioned that are worthy of being on this list IMHO:
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain- PS1, very well voice-acted, deep story, and a nice mix of dungeon-crawls, boss fights, and great atmosphere.
Jade Empire- PC/Xbox, Yes it's the usual bioware story of being the main character that the whole world hinges on, but recast in a cool kung-fu movie style. The characters are top-notch, and the ending twist was great.
Sid Meier's Pirates!- PC/Xbox, Swashbuckling, buried treasure, dancing with the governor's daughter, and pirate battles at sea. A little repetitive but still a good game.
Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption- PC, Such a tale, going from Prague during the crusades to modern day London and New York City, all the while risking your soul and one true love.
Curse of the Azure Bonds- PC/Apple-II/C64 Really any of the old SSI gold-box games would be worthy of the list, if only for the history as the first D&D videogames, but what
makes Curse of the Azure Bonds stand out is its story, the import from pool of radiance feature, and its level is right in the sweet-spot of powerful heroes, not yet the demigods of the later games (Secrets of the Silver Blades and Pools of Darkness) but able to take on dragons, demons, and other truly nasty monsters.
And I know many have mentioned it already but still, have to give a special shout-out to Planescape: Torment, one of the most thought-provoking, well-written RPGs of all time.
