Splinter Cell: Conviction. It was hardly a stealth game any more at all, it was just not very good. I much preferred the old look it had, with the crowd stealth similar to AC.

Lost Planet 2 was also a bit of a letdown after how great the first one was.

Le favorite game that had a crummy sequel: Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.

Le crummy sequel: Mercenaries 2- World in Flames.
Right off with the bat with some unnecessary story of revenge against a dictator, not to mention a ridiculous pace that made sure that you really knew nothing about the guy who betrayed you, not really giving you a reason to hate the guy. The idea of forming your own PMC was kind of interesting, but it just got away from the genuine fun of the first game where the premise was "North Korea's a warzone- exploit the factions for cash" Not to mention that you actually had to create stockpiles of weapons which you would use and then had to acquire more to use. Sometimes more complexity is not a good thing. It felt less arcade-like, less like the wanton destruction of the first game that made the title so fitting.

Bioshock. The story in Bioshock 2 was no where near as amazing as the original, and what I loved about the first was the sense of mystery and wonder, which you can't get when your playing a giant robot that's lived in the city for years.
well you had to be just above my post. Even though it's not as good as Bioshock 1 it is still a good game.
THANK you. I was expecting hordes of people saying "Bioshock 2 sux lol11!!!" Sure it's not as good as the original, but it's still a good game in it's own right.

OT: Ah....How 'bout every Spyro game after the first 3? And while I'm at it, who else has seen his new look? They have murdered my childhood.

Wow, really? So that means that Empire Strikes Back, Dark Knight, Last Crusade, Temple of Doom, Terminator 2, Godfather Part II, Toy Story 2 and 3, every single James Bond movie after the first one, Aliens, X-Men 2, Spider Man 2, LOTR: Two Towers AND Return of the King all sucked, huh?

Just say the Matrix sequels, we all know what you mean anyway.

Gonna go with Final Fantasy X-2.
When I played through FFX it was my favorite in the series. It was a side effect from first seeing the then awesomely amazing graphics and the voice acting instead of reading text bubbles. The combat system is however still my favorite through the series and I wish they'd take it back again and make it less... sucky.

Well, those that have played FFX-2 knows what a heap of shit it turned out to be. I bought it on the release day in Sweden, played for a few hours, then put in the shelf for a few years before bothering to try it again. Don't think I came much further even then.
My sister liked it though.

H.A.W.X.

Since being a kid i've loved Modern Military Aircraft and the ability to burn up the skies over Rio, Los Angeles, Washington was brought to life by HAWX. The ability to suddenly change into super-stunt mode only intensified the feeling.

When i heard HAWX 2 was coming out i could barely hold on to my cash and was more then ready to throw it at the developers after hearing rumours about seperate story lines for three differnt pilots, better variety of planes, more intense action!

When i finally played it the game didn't feel like a HAWX at all. The OFF mode was completely useless and never required, the Russian pilot only appears in about 4 missions and the British pilot about 3 vs the American pilot who gets about double the screen time of his counterparts combined.

The plot also fell down as it was apparently about an Ultra-nationalist group and some Middle Eastern Terrorists who are revealed to be puppets in a Generals plan to take over Russia. And when you finally do corner him he starts blazing about 'Them' how they're everywhere and they can't be stopped- Aliens, Terrorists, Corrupt Governments, the French. It's never explained who the true villans are!

In HAWX there was a sequence where you had to fly over a hot AA network, using your pathfinder system to avoid the SAMs and destroy some important targets- it was really intense and genuinely exhilerating. They attempted the exact same sequence in HAWX 2 and it fell flat on its face.

The ending was also a pain in the arse as they required you to fly your jet through a tight corridor to destroy a reactor to blow up a bunker. Ace Combat 6 already did this and alot better as with AC the corridor was wide enough to give you a chance without it being easy. In HAWX the place is so narrow and the target is so small it kind of ruins the adrenaline high you just got from shooting down Nuclear Missiles while dodging laser shots from a satellite (That sounds great on paper but gameplay wise it's a pain in the arse!)

The original was a great survival horror game. The second one however drops the survival horror part for an action shoot em up. And the 3rd game completely forgets about the first 2 games and has "dinosaurs" in space with bad controls in general.

Guess which one failed horribly.

Ghost Recon 1 was amazing fun somehow. Me and me brother would (and still do) play it quite a bit. Ghost Recon 2 was cow poopie piled in with bull shit.

Rome Total War is my favorite RTS of all time. M2 was decent, but Empire and Napoleon are wastes of time. The AI is worse than pants-on-head retarded, which is made even worse since they bragged about how good the AI was in the previews. Rewatching the battle scenes from The Patriot is far better than playing Empire or Naploeon.

I object, The Godfather part II is said to be even better than the first one and I completely agree. The Back To The Future sequels are also really good.

Deus Ex, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Final Fantasy X.
I was disappointed by these games' sequels.

Oh yeah, and F.E.A.R..

EDIT: Heroes of Might and Magic III had disappointing sequels as well.

Command and Conquer 3 isn't my favorite game, but I do like it a whole lot. But #4... Holy shit. Why did you do that EA?!

Of course, I can't not mention Sonic & Knuckles here. Still probably the last Sonic game worth playing. Sure, Sonic Adventure was on the right track, but it needed some improvements to actually make it work and hold up to the test of time (that game is quite awful by today's standards). But, instead of that, it got Sonic Adventure 2, which was the first game to start declining into the mess that Sonic is today. And no, the Advance and Rush series are quite awful too.

It also pains me to say this, but Golden Sun: The Lost Age is one of my favorite games. Then I finally got to play Dark Dawn... It wasn't a bad game by any means, but the story... Holy shit. When I finally beat the game, my thoughts were "Oh gee, I'm glad that I finished that giant fucking sidequest that was 90% of this game. Now I can get back to the main plo- Oh the credits are here. Camelot you son of a *****."

I'll with Mass Effect 2, it got rid of nearly all the rpg elements in favor of subpar shooting mechanics, the story was really really bad, and they somehow made planet exploring even worse then driving around in that crappy mako.

Worse in nearly every way.
Seconded. I mean the mako got tiresome on the tenth play though or so, scanning was a pain as soon as it started. As well the loss of immersion, lets remove the elevator scenes and show a graphic of an elevator that takes longer instead (not better). Also the "baby reaper" was the worst idea i'd seen in the story. I loved ME, and pre-ordered ME2 (and still regret it), so really iffy on ME3.

Also MUA2. Why do devs think that console players are getting dumber? They keep dumbing down the titles that sell well. (It's looking like that's happening for Dragon Age but i'll reserve judgement until I get hands on).

The Gothic series started off nicely, part 2 was good and then 3 was just atrocious piece of shit.

Ever since the GTA series switched to 3d, it lost its gimmick and was not it anymore

Splinter Cell, everything after Pandora was just terribad

Red Alert 3 was one big letdown in pretty much every way.

COD WaW- Genuinely placed this game in my all time top 5. Single player was so-so but had a few great moments, the introduction of zombie mode and DLC zombie maps which have outshone all the of black ops versions, and a fun and brutal multiplayer.

MW2 and BO both have fallen far far short for me, the only good point about either is the single player in black ops.
the black ops story was quite good, got a bit boring in points, and the lack of a "revert to last save" feature from the ingame menu sucked. Why they dont just put all the old zombie maps in with every game they release i don't know, like the first one wasnt even that big. But was probably the most fun of all as it really did feel like you couldnt go "one more round" with just a bit of luck.
The multiplayer just gets more tedious unfortunately.

Good: Ratchet & Clank 3
Crummy: Ratchet: Gladiator.

Just didn't follow in the legacy the way I hoped it would... Still a good game, I upgraded all the weapons to Lv. 99, but just... Meh. It was a little dark to be a true R&C title.

Also, pre-emptively...
Good: R&C: A Crack in Time
Crummy: R&C: All 4 One

Co-op family funtime party game, Insomniac? For shame.

If you still have the disk try the DLC Minerva's Den if you haven't already. I thought the story was much better and it even has a big WTF reveal moment like in the original Bioshock.

OT: Fallout: New Vegas had nothing on Fallout 3. Maybe it's just because New Vegas is lacking liam Neeson.

This. Holy crap was it awful. I couldn't understand anything. I died so many times because I had no idea what they meant when they said that my "primal armor was offline" or something. I then figured out it was code for "You are so screwed". I love mech games, but I couldn't even finish this because of how ridiculously complicated it was.
The default control scheme doesn't even allow you to strafe. You actually have to change the game configurations to be able to move to the left and to the right without turning to face that direction. Imagine a fast-paced third-person shooter that doesn't let you walk sideways lmao

I hear For Answer is supposed to be better and that the upcoming 5 will go back to PS2-game-mechanics
Well, "For Answer" is actually the version I own. Stores didn't even sell vanilla AC4 when I went to buy it. I'm looking forward to AC5, but judging from the screenshots and the trailer I've seen so far it looks like they're keeping the insanely ugly look of the AC4 mechs over the sleek, cool look of the AC2/AC3 mechs.

Halo 2 -> Halo 3

The transition to travel time hit detection instead of hit scan, the removal of skill glitches like double-shot and BXR, and maps that really didn't hold a candle to a lot of the ones found in Halo 2. Halo 3 was a pretty good game, but it was a lot of minor things like those that made it a crappy game compared to it's predecessor.
