The action looks good. But anime plot, acting and all that other shit was better when you didn't have to hear about it and could just read fast, play it out in your head and so on. They just add in story stuff just like all those boring parts from Advent Children that you fast forward through.

Ah, I see they keep the tradition of the cutscenes looking way better than the actual game.

PS: Gotta say, Director Tuesti never looked better...

I wasnt gonna post about the trailer because it didnt seem like people cared that much here. Happy to see someone do it for me and give me and excuse to blab.

The game looks amazing. Even if you ignore things like the plot or whatever if you arent into that, the game itself just looks good and fun. All the combat theyve shown plus what we have seen from the demo shows that the game should be a complete blast to just play.

I cant wait for April. I would have preferred March but what are ya gonna do i guess.

I don't think FFX can be said to have a single antagonist, but I don't think that's an actual flaw in the game's narrative.

While this may be a cliche, the 'antagonist' of FFX is a system. Spira has to deal with Sin due to the actions of people a thousand years ago. I can't call Yevon an antagonist because he isn't really a character in the game, and is barely fleshed out within said game. The church and Yunalesca aren't antagonists per se, they're simply operating in the best way they can; in their eyes, Sin can never be defeated, so the best they can do is give the people some hope and brief periods of peace. Seymour is insane, but it's insanity that comes from Spira's misery, and his own reaction to it. It's therefore telling that the system is finally broken when an outsider (Tidus) sees it from the outside, calls it out, and thus leads the party to find another way to deal with Sin.

I'm just gonna wait until the actual full game is out in one package. And then I hope they give this treatment to FF4-FF6.

The Demo Intro has been posted online. I would imagine it will appear on the store very very soon.
And I just beaten the Original PS1 game.
Grats, did you enjoy it?
I forgotten how great the music is other then the overplayed ones. And I understand why Sephiroth is one of the more if not the best villain in the series.

I mean here's your villains up to this point:

Garland: Died in the first chapter and had this weird time travel plot (though I liked him in Dissidia)

Emperor Mateus: Conceptually he is effective, he's brutal and ambitious, but he just comes off as bland.

Xande: Victim of the first Villain Switcheroo. Who gives a fuck about the CLOUD OF DAAAAAAARKNEESSS!!

Golbez: Again a Switcheroo, and worse he became a good guy in the end. Who the hell is Zemus?

Exdeath: Perhaps the most unintentionally hilarious villain.

Kefka: The only one to Rival Sephiroth.

Then after 7 we got Ultemecia/Edea, I don't know I never beaten 8 to this day.

Kuja: Victim of Switcheroo, but I say he fairs better then Golbez because we see him to the very end as the bad guy.

FF X had too many villains I think: Is it Seymour? Is it Sin, is it Yevon, is it Jecht? I do think Sin on its own is a interesting take on the antagonist.

FF 12 kinda makes me sad because remember this series took a completely different direction after Matsuno left the director's chair. But Vayne Solidor had simple motivations, he just wanted to be the God Emperor of the World, he just didn't have enough screentime.

And I have not played 13 and 15 at all to comment.

So yeah you kinda understand why Sephiroth sticks out among the pack:

Sephiroth really fits most of your quibbles with some of the others.

He doesn't even have his own agenda, he's just a convenient format for Jenova's agenda. He also gets Garland-esque ganked before the game even starts and its never even really established that you're even fighting him and not just another Jenova/Hojo made clone. His personal storyline/enmity with Cloud is entirely based on events that didn't actually happen. His big villain moment of killing a protagonist is both not actually him in the end, and largely overblown in the series mythology where this had happened before in both FF5 and FF4 (constantly, but somewhat censored out in the US version). And required Aeris to run off like a dumb teen in a slasher movie with literally none of her dozen odd friends helping her (Even if they couldn't trust Cloud to come along).

Comparitively, both Kefka and Kuja (who have overall similar arcs) managed to overthrow their controllers one way or another. And maintain their own personality in situation and their interactions with the heros. I still wouldn't say they're outstanding, as Kefka kind of vanishes into his hole in the Ruined World chapters, and Kuja does get randomly pushed aside for Nekron (although in the grand scheme of things, Sephiroth and Kuja both summon apocalyptic forces as their endgame, just sephirophs is a big rock, and Kuja's is the embodiment of death that takes his place as a boss fight.)

There is a tangible possibility that none of that will ever happen.

They posted the opening movie to the game, and I gotta say it is better than I could have ever imagined.

There was also a theme song trailer which some of you might have missed.

I have fingers crossed for no more delays.

Does anyone genuinely think this will be better than the original? I just don't see it.

Better? No. But it will be a different experience in the same world, a different retelling of the story and the game itself should be very very good based on what we've seen. So there is a bit of managing expectations. I don't think anyone at this point should be expecting an experience like the Original. Look at it like a different game in the same world and it should hit the way it's supposed too.

Will the game still have dialog choices? I've watched some clips and they seem to play out like normal cutscenes.

According to reports, yes there are still the dialog choices you expect. I know you can change the outcome of the dres-up scene by how in-depth you get with it. As well as other dialog options like giving the flower to Tifa or Marlene. The choices might not be the same as the OG game, but there are still choices.

Jesse Cox said that he can't say anything about the build he played until March 2nd. It's possible that something might happen on that date, like the release of a publicly available demo. Of course, this is still just speculation, but it could be worth keeping an eye on.

There are several people who went off to play 3.5hours of the game over the past week or so and they are not allowed to talk about it until next week. So apparently there is gonna be a lot of people giving their first impressions about the game next week. It will be interesting.

Yahtzee played the game at E3 and even though he doesn't like JRPG's he admitted to the game showing promise. If the game was even remotely interesting to him, that gives me a lot of good hopes for the game.

I think I'll struggle to get past the fact it's not turn-based. Something about the classic titles not being turn-based just seems wrong to me. Saying that, I did like ff15 so maybe I'm prejudicing and I'll end up loving it. At least we know for definite that there's a good storyline.

The episodic thing also puts me off. Feels like a cash grab.

So there is a turn-based mode you can toggle if you want.

Basically the way the game works is you use basic attacks to fill your ATB gauge, using skills, magic, items, etc all require the use of 1 or 2 segments ATB bar (of which there are 2 total by default however this can be increased on a character with materia). So the combat is active in the sense that you want to use basic attacks + time to fill the bar quickly. If you don't attack the ATB bar still fills but much slower.

Now the turn-based mode is called "classic mode". In this mode, your characters will automatically do basic attacks and move around the battle-field while ai controled. Your only inputs are selecting the abilities they use once the ATB bars are filled. Effectively giving you a turn-based version of the game to play should you want too.

As for the episodic thing. I get the reluctance there, however episodic is the wrong word I feel. Based on what they've done to the game, the better way to think of it is as a Trilogy (or however many parts it ends up).

This first part of the story looks to be quite a bit more fleshed out, and looks like it will deliver the full RPG game promise that they've made. So by that token I think the better way to look at it is like you would view the Star Wars movies (original trilogy at least) where each game is it's own thing, but the sequels all link together and continue the story as stand-alone expereiences in their own right.

I would have surely preferred that they deliver the entire FF7 experience in one game, but to do so with the graphical scale of what they are showing, I don't think it is possible in a single experience. You'd be talking about a game that would have to push something like 300-500 GIGS of data.

Look at FF15 on the PC, that open world is not very big, and that game was 120GB. Now you'd have to double or triple the size of that world to make up FF7's map, not to mention all the towns, events, monsters, story, and everything else that makes up a game. And the scope to do so with a modern graphic style would just be insanely huge.

This stand-alone segmented approach I think is a much better compromise for a couple of reasons.
1. WE don't have to wait until 2050 to play it.
2. Each stand alone game has a chance to make gameplay improvements based on how the previous game is received, making the FF7 games get even better the further into the story you get.
3. The installments of game can be full flesh-out games that give us incremental experiences every few years keeping the characters and the story relevant in our collective memories for longer.
4. As technology improves throughout the game's life cycle, increases the potential for what it can become in the end.
