Uh... wow...I was expecting much worse reactions.
Really people? X and X-2, the two games that STARTED the downfall of Final Fantasy, and everyone's creaming themselves over it? Granted, X was.....playable? in a pinch...and X-2 had a half decent battle system...? But are our expectations of FF so low that even these two turds being re-released in HD is such a big goddamn thing? Hell, the most enduring entertainment value from these two games is theory making in that "Tidus' name was never spoken, not a once in X, even in voiceless dialog. Is that a plot point?" (It's not, Squeenix isn't smart enough for that.)

I mean, I'm not going to bang on the "We need a FF7 remake!" drum, but if we're remaking old, less than perfect FF games, why not go to 8 or 9?

However, to play the devil's advocate here, it IS nice to see Squeenix following Yahtzee's idea of "Remake bad games, not good ones." Even thought this isn't a REMAKE it's a RE-RELEASE, so, so much for that.
X was the start of the downfall?

You're dreaming mate, FF has generally been shit apart from exceptions like the first 3, 6 or 9.

Yesssssssssssssss! I was hoping that they'd do this honestly. So much nostalgia-goodness...I think I might even get the collection for PS3 and then pick up X-2 again separately if I decide to get a Vita down the road. Assuming, of course, they do in fact release this outside of Japan.

Don't mind me, I'll just escort myself to the pasture with the other black sheep who enjoyed Final Fantasy X-2.

I liked FFX's battle system well enough, but that was about it. Think I'll pass this one up.

I hope this comes to the US as well. I'd love to have X-2 on Vita with its sequel.

I don't think I've ever genuinely understood the hate for X-2 that everyone has. Okay, so it's no longer a story about mopey teenagers being sad about having to save the world, and is now about three teenage girls who want simply to have some fun. Is that really such a bad thing? I mean, really?

And forget all that, the fight system is excellent, with the dresspheres essentially being a re-imagining of the jobs system from V.

The story is a bit meh, starting out as a search for Tidus, shifting into a political commentary that does little more than establish the sides of a basic conflict, and ends with a massive mecha-satan battle. But it serves its purpose very well, and never comes across as particularly obnoxious. Overall, I think it's a decent package.

tl;dr hooray!

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Such good news. Please do it for NA, Square Enix. Please, oh, please. I love both games!
I knew I liked you for reasons other than Dude, Where's My Car?.

On-topic: Final Fantasy X-2 is my favorite game of all time, but I haven't played the more intricate and content-laden International + Last Mission due to the lack of localization and the ostensible need for me to emulate. Even if the international editions are exclusive to Japan, though, Final Fantasy X-2 in glorious, stunning HD is more than enough to make me want a PS3 again.

...oh, and Final Fantasy X is cool, I guess.

I wasnt expecting X-2 being included. I wouldn't miss it if it weren't there and I have nothing against its inclusion.
It has to be included on the PS3. I believe SCEA won't let them re-release a single HD remake on the PS3 which is likely why they added X-2. I wouldn't expect the X-2 remake to be as polished as the X remake.

My response to this was a great big meh mostly because the Final Fantasy fans I know HATE X-2 but love X, however I don't see how X-2 being included would detract from purchasing.

As far as the X-2 battle system goes I thought it suffered from only having a 3-member party. Been some time since I played it and I only ever got around 20 hours in but from what I recall while I tried to stay flexible and try different jobs I always had to keep switching back to my goto formation, especially for bosses. I think it was white mage+black mage+melee, so basically the MMO routine with the melee the only one you had a few options to actually experiment with. Having a 4th party member like in FF III and V would have let me branch out more with some of the more original jobs.

I would have much preferred FF XII to these two. The battle system in FFXII is amazing.. no random battles, hooray! It was the first FF game in which I didn't mind grinding a bit, thanks to the gambit system. The story was perhaps not the strongest overall, but the worlds, characters and battle system was top notch in my book.

The important question is will it be the "International + Last Mission" version of Final Fantasy X-2, or not?

If it is, I'm definitely going to get it, if not, I wont bother.

FFX-2 allows class changes mid-battle though, and in that way Spherechange is a precursor to FFXIII's Paradigm Shift. You don't need to stick to a particular party setup, hell, 3 Dark Knights worked just fine for me. Swapping a White Mage in to heal is easy enough, or you can just spam items. Class systems in the early Final Fantasies are more rigid in that winning is more about preparation than anything else.

Oh joy.

Now, I liked 10, It had a great combat system and the story wasn't bad, but it did start the loss of the over world map and 10-2 was... -_- I lost interest about half way through.

I don't want FFXI HD, I want FFVII HD! Is there anyone who will say "I would prefer an HD remix of FFX over FFVII!"? I don't think there is!

Yes you could switch jobs mid battle but when the battles get tougher that doesn't matter much if they weren't good at another job. You try to build them up to be good at other jobs but then I was constantly switching my good white mage back to and keeping her in the healer role. Which meant the only option to break the stalemate would be to grind grind grind.

As a disclaimer I should add that I've always held the opinion for JRPG's that the bigger the party the better, and have always held a grievance with Square following FFVII that apparently think a party of 3 is the perfect number.

I probably wouldn't play X-2 before finishing X, and I prefer my JRPGs portable, so I'll stick with the Vita version unless there's a huge price discrepancy.
