I have one question about this game... Should I play from the first one, so I can understand the story behind it?

Just want to know befor I try and buy any of them.

No, you can play any FF you want in any order because the story doesn't follow on from each game (except 10 and 10-2). They all have seperate stories so play any one you want.

Personally I played FF4 first, then went on from there- 5, 12, 13, 10, 3.

Nope, as many have said before me, all are different games, only thing that's the same is the title.

And for my recommendations, can't go wrong with starting at X or VII.

I see, so most of the story doesn't go in order... o.k. so, what number do you recomend for some one just starting the seiries?

And thank you, Peduncle, I will try and get that one... I think a freind of mine ownes a copy of it.

I started out on VII and apparently they don't have a connecting story... you probably won't understand what SOLDIER is or what Sephiroth did (I certainly don't, but I'm only 4 hours into it) but you'll get the basics. I recommend having a friend who is already a fan of the series help talk you through it so you'll understand and if you get stuck on a part they can help you.

It's not a case of the story has no order, they are all different stories. They have different worlds, characters, rules, battle systems and mythology. Try not to think of them as Final Fantasy games, think of them as different games that are made under the same "brand".

I highly recommend that you stay AWAY from FFV. I tried to play it twice, and both times I got bored and never finished it. VII and VIII are my two favorites, so I suggest them. Of course, if you don't have PSN, you may have a hard time tracking those down. Hard disk copies of VII tend to cost a lot now.

I do not recommend it, each game will take hours and hours to play, and there are lots of them.

They are each their own separate story. They do not even take place in the same world (except the ones that are sequels or spinoffs of a particular one). You can play any of them in any order.

I recommend starting after 7. It wasn't all that great and it really hasn't aged well.

I recommend X. Story is good and it's arguably the hardest one to get lost in if you're new to these types of games.

I'd recommend playing IX. However, because it's the best all the others will pale in comparison before its near perfection.

They are all separate games, so it does not matter which one you start out with.

I'm going to second this opinion.

Final Fantasy VII is -- typically -- only enjoyed for it's nostalgia.

Anything after that is a better place to start.

just to brag a bit, i got a perfect copy of ff7 with zero scratches and a perfect case =] found it at a local store for 25 bucks a year and a half ago..i nearly had a heart attack getting that thing off the shelf as i couldn't believe it was truly there.

OT: yeah NONE of the main number games are connected in any way shape or form, they are all different games completely so dont worry about any order

personally..

id recommend 7,9,10,12 as a start

then if you figure out you like those, i'd move on to 6,8,13 and any of the earlier ones if you can find em

Get Final Fantasies 7 and 9 from the PSN. They're awesome. (9 moreso than 7.)

Oh, and stay away from Final Fantasy 13. I've been playing that sucker for 30 hours, constantly asking "okay, so when does the fun start?"

I'd definitely recommend X as a starting point - the most user friendly FF game I've played.

The battle system is a much simplified version of the previous ones and there are loads of tutorials and tips throughout. Some of the earlier ones just expect you to know how various items and abilities work.

The story is also one of my favourites and the game as a whole feels similar enough to the others to be a good stepping stone to the more complicated ones.
