River Raid for Atari. Damn refueling stations.
This was my first game as well, only for the Commodore 64. Hell yeah joysticks!

Though actually my first game could have been Lode Runner or Bagitman or one of a million games that we had for it, but River Raid was both my favorite and the one I remember the best.

Except for Agent USA. That game was the bomb. The FUZZ BOMB! AIEE!

EDIT: Seeing the number of N64 and later firsts makes me feel old.

Hm, must have been some game on the Philips G7000. (apparently called "Magnavox Odyssey²" in America, according to Wikipedia.) I really don't remember which game though.

By the way, wow, for lots of people a Nintendo 64 / Playstation 1 game was their first game ever played! I was already gaming forever when the N64 came out. Man, I'm really getting old.

Oh, and also:

I think it was Commander Keen 6 ("Aliens Took my Babysitter" or something to that effect). Great game. I can think of one game that I played earlier than that, but the name eludes me. It involved navigating an animal of your choice through habitats in which you had to eat everything lower on the food chain than you and avoid everything else. I think it was called Animal Quest or something, but I can't be sure, I was 3.

I actually remember a game similar to this that I played in school, but with fish. It was sort of a puzzle game, you start with your fish on the left side, a random fish or other creature on the right, and you had to pick to swim high, low, or center. If you swam directly toward the other thing (it could sometimes be a seal or osprey or some algae, as well as other fish) you would either eat it if it is small enough, or be eaten if it was big enough, or swim right by. You would get points based on your decision, IE, if you eat it but it is not part of your main fish diet, you would gain only a few points, if you get eaten you probably got no points, and other such points schemes. It was actually pretty interesting and I wish I could remember it, I'd love to look it up and play again. OH NO SEAL RUN!

That is exactly the game I'm think of. There were also levels for a temperate forest and an African savannah.

I had that for the PC - what a game. Didn't care too much for the grans though...

The first game I played was called Velocity I think. Flying game, you bomb things and fly around as a purple polygon.

A text-based adventure game whose name I no longer remember on the Apple IIgs. It was Vampire Hunter or something similar, I never really got to see anything interesting (I was 6), but I sure liked the idea.

Earliest game I can remember was turok 2: seeds of evil on the N64, I can even remember when my dad took me to the shop and bought the N64.
