*barely plays his Wii for more than an hour or two a week*

Aura Guardian does all the time, though.

Can you blame be?
Not at all. The Wii has tons of great games, they just don't happen to be Bioware RPGs, Bethesda RPGs, or FPS games. Which are popular now.

Exactly. Not that they are bad, just the same.

This just seems like an unneccessarily inflammatory way of saying that the Wii has poor third-party support (from a traditional gamer's perspective). It's true, I suppose, but not very well articulated. Personally I'm getting a hell of a lot more use out of my Wii at the moment than my Xbox, because it Red Ringed on me, or my PS3, because I don't yet have enough disposable income to buy one. Then again, I'm getting even more use out of my PC, PS2, N64, SNES and NES, so maybe I'm not really the one to ask about current-generation console usage trends.

I wouldnt go as far as to say the Wii is a virus but I have said since the start that it is just a toy. My friends use it constantly but just to get drunk and play Wii Sports. In fact I dont think they have played anything else on the thing. No wait they rented that 3d/2d mario remake the other day.

The only other person I know that has a Wii has had it sitting there for months and the only person that plays it is their nephew.

I read somewhere that 65% of Wii owners buy the wii but have not bought a game for it. Which is why most developers are upset with the console, and I think that is a bit annoying to see that. As it's not a terrible console, my only gripe is that motion controls are often forced into every game when they shouldn't ever have such a thing. ...Like Metal Slug, or FPS, shake controller, throw grenade is NOT a good idea.

... what the fuck? isn't that exactly what a toy is?

I would use it more often but I don't actually live with it, so I guess that's my excuse.

The point here is it's the same with all the consoles I would argue. However the type of games you have determines how often you will use it. The way to make games re-playable enough to get a lot of use is to do multiplayer. The only multiplayer games anybody plays on consoles are FPS and fighting games. The Wii does not work well with shooters.

All these facts (well, I'd call them facts) add up to mean that obviously you will get more people regularly using the other consoles. This does not make them superior to the Wii.

In terms of local multiplayer, personally my friends and I will more often bust out either Rock Band or SSBB due to most FPS games now being more designed for online multiplayer and therefore being SHITE for local multiplayer. Therefore I get more use with the Wii (although we can play Rock Band on any console), when at home at least.

THAT IS MY OPINION, ACCEPT IT OR DIE.

Translation:

"The Wii market is too hard to sell to; they won't buy the same Shooter Guy 3 sequels we keep shitting out. They aren't like the Hardcore (suckers) who just buy whatever we advertise to them month after month. They expect their games to be unique, interesting, and have lots of value, which we have no idea at all how to do. We're going to keep milking the basement dwelling Halo-tards until the market collapses while blaming piracy and used game sales for our lousy products."
WOA, WOA! Your talking about DICE here!
The guys who did Bad Company! That game was completely original!

Tell me, have you ever played a game where you outrun a Russian tank in a golf cart?
Cause you do that in Bad Company.
hell yeah, brotha.
also, mirror's edge.
also unique and original.
and these guys fucking made BF2, and anyone who hates on it better have female genitalia or be a total 'console tard' and mistaking modern combat for BF2.
which, surprise, surprise, it is NOT.
DICE? SHITTY SEQUELS?

I dunno I had no problem with it.
I do, so the question is, WHY is it rarely customizable? Most games have this feature but Nintendo shrugs if off from what I've seen. I don't want to shake the controller for anything, so why not maybe let me use the gamecube or classic controller?

You see, NONE of this bad talk to the Wii would be happening if Nintendo hadn't let all the shovelware on it for all those doting grandmothers and aunts who know jack shit about games and say "Aww little jimmy, this game looks nice why don't I get you it?"

I've SEEN that happen with my own eyes (part timer at my local GAME) I literally face palmed after they left.

Shovelware is what gives the Wii a bad name, the Nintendo exclusives and a few 3rd part games such as Madworld, Conduit, etc. are the only games worth a mention and should be the only games the Wii is judged by.

So then who's playing all those copies of NSMBW that people bought, Hmmmmmm? Why would so many people be buying copies if most of them didn't use the system anymore?
Well, I actually got a copy for Christmas that I haven't played yet, so yeah...

Before that the last game I bought was Deadly Creatures, which is a year old and I never finished it (because I don't use my Wii very often.)

I did replay Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn this year though.

It IS judged by those games. The judgement is usually "the Wii is crap because it has no games".

He sees it more of a toy, which most purchasers barely use.
All consoles are toys.
There's a difference between, say, tinker toys and toy robots (not the best example, but hopefully you get my point). One's for slightly younger kids to play with and maybe grow out of as they grow older. Toy robots probably are loved throughout the ages, 'cause they're freakin' robots man!

Not the best example, but hopefully you're getting to what I'm trying to say.

As for the Wii itself, I do happen to agree, people do tend to buy a Wii after the initial "Wow!" moment (like my friend and I), but then hardly use it since (like my friend and I). Now, that doesn't mean that there aren't some "hardcore" gamerz out there, like you, Aura Guardian, but a huge majority just don't really stick with it, like a pet rock or platform shoes or something.

"a toy, not an entertainment focused product"

Can anyone find me a three letter word for "entertainment focused product"?

HEY!!!I'm more of a hardcore Wii gamer and the Xbox gamer.
But I see what you are saying. Your "Wow" moment is similar to my Xbox 360 moment.

I'm gonna have to agree. The wii has no appeal to me. I've owned an 8-bit nintendo, super nintendo, n64, gameboy, ds, but I havent even given the wii a second look. I know many people disagree with me, but personally Mario and Zelda in 3D just isn't my thing. I played both on n64, didn't like it. Since the wii's release there hasnt bin a single game released for it that peaked my intresst. I've seen plenty of games on it since a good friend of mine is a big fan of the wii, but no for me.

But on the other hand I don't think playstation nor xbox has more justification of existance then the wii so I'm gonna end this post with a simple "meh".

I agree. Shovelware IS really the Wii's biggest problem.

In this day and age, image is everything. But image is based on perspective. From the perspective of a long time gamer/observant Nintendo fanboy (one that has played and enjoyed old first party Nintendo titles) the Wii is being drowned in shovelware. From the perspective of a just-jumped-into-hardcore-FPS-in-the-last-6-years-on-Xbox/PS3 idiot, the Wii is unfamiliar, and therefore sucks. And to people new to it all, yes the Wii appears to be a fun toy.

It was Nintendo's intention to make the Wii appeal to everyone, but in the process, they lost some hardcore fans. I'm still a Nintendo fanboy, and I think 2010 has some particularly good releases coming, so I'll play it when I feel like it.

A gaming console is a toy. I have a Wii and a 360, and I play them when I feel like playing with them. That is more or less the definition of a toy. Neither a toy, nor a gaming console should be played nonstop; you play them when you feel like it. It's not what's good or not, it's what you like. It's not whether you win or lose, it's whether you have fun doing it.

So, stick with your console of choice. Or try something new, and merge the nerd-gamer demographic with the casual-gamer demographic. Except people in general are too stupid/cowardly to even consider that last sentence.
