Can someone explain to me in a logical smart way (without hurting my brain) WHY THE FUCK FOX NEWS IS STILL AROUND?
Because it panders to a relatively small but predictable demographic.

Rupert Murdoch does this on the other side of the Atlantic in the UK but with tack tabloid "newspapers" appealing to the lowest common denominator of right-wing paranoia.

Also, this is a bit of a taste of their own medicine, remember how many were quick to call George W Bush a fascist, even fondly entertain the through of him being assassinated. Well the boot is on the other foot and now they see how easy it is to fling shit at people.

The majority of Studio Ghibli's films can be summed up with the phrase "Nature is good, people are jerks." This isn't new or surprising to anyone. It's why I tend to not seek out thar stuff anymore. If I wanted to be "subtly" told to stop being part of the evil mankind I'll just turn on the news. The only difference is Ghibili makes it all look very pretty while telling me I am a big bad anti nature scumbag.

So now Fox's enemies include the Muppets, Nickelodian, and Dr. Seuss.....I think that says a little something.

This is laughable....the Lorax.....insidious?....they used the word "insidious" to describe the Lorax? If there's any popular media that's feeding people misinformation and bias, it's Fox.

I think concerving the environment is a message we can all agree on. Fox has taken the side of the Tragedy of the Commons on this one.

And apart from that, is the movie even out yet?....do they have any sort of educated opinion on the message that it contains, or are they calling in multiple concervative buddies and spending 5 minutes with them criticising a 90 second long preview?

side note, but the Japanese story seems like a copy of an older book [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Borrowers]
Yep, published in 1952. I read them as a kid, along with the OZ series (Side note: Hollywood, PLEASE make movies about the incredibly fucked-up world of Oz), and the Boxcar Children, and I'm not an Occupy Child in the slightest.

Seriously, when it comes to entertainment, I'm pretty sure Fox just makes stuff up.

So the correct way to state your grievance against messages of friendship and courtesy for living things is to be buy crap you don't want, waste it, and make wage earners who have nothing to do with the film work harder than they have to. Solid values to pass to the kiddies.

Anyone know if Arietty is good? I love Ghibli films.
I saw it. I liked it. They don't make children's movies like this anymore. And by that I mean a children's movie that is modest about it's desire to be very demure and quiet. I like everything about it although if you desire miyzaki's more exciting movies you could go into a sleeping spell.

I read The Lorax and The Borrowers when I was a kid. I saw several movies in the 80s (including the Muppets) about protecting the environment. As an adult today, I understand that logging is necessary if done responsibly and it's not evil in and of it's self. I consider my self to be fairly centered with regard to the environment and even politics so I doubt these new movies have nearly the effect they think it will.

...I hope my Fox News friend sees this. He loves anime and Ghibli films, so I can't wait to see the reaction to this.

I don't even know what to say anymore.

If the US turns into a totalitarian theocracy, I will know who's fault it is. Thanks Fox News, for destroying science, destroying Christianity, and destroying our country for the sake of ratings. I can only hope that traditional television collapses entirely under the weight of mediocrity before you can do your worst damage.

Okay, I'm going to leave the new spin on, "The Borrowers" out of this for now. For Fox to just now get around to sounding the alarm about, "The Lorax" is just damned funny. What hard hitting, investigative journalism this is. "The Lorax" has only been around since 1971, so it's taken them more than 40 years to figure out the story has a, "green" message? It's not exactly hidden, in fact, it's the whole point of the story.

I still wonder to this day how Fox News continues to exist but then again I occasionally turn on my TV and watch maybe a minute of mainstream entertainment and it makes sense I guess.

People who are kids now perhaps 15, 20 or so years from now will look back at stuff like Fox News and think really? really? this was allowed on tv? and some people took it seriously? wow and we as old farts will nod and say yep, crazy stuff right.

That you Faux News. More work for me, if anyone takes your advice seriously. Having seen Arriety? Not really any horrible agenda of doom. As for the Lorax? If it has a more liberal message than the original, I'd be...seriously impressed. Of course, I actually think you know, we need a world to live in, so...can't really argue with the Lorax's message.

On the other hand, some of my co-workers will mostly be eating this up, and assume that the brainwashing evil media is doing horrible things to the children by teaching them to share and not destroy all their resources.

I'm reminded of when Nostalgia Critic reviewed Ponyo and got the crap beaten out of him several times for a simple reason:

NOBODY

FUCKS

WITH

MIYAZAKI.

You are allowed to not like certain aspects of his movies, you are even allowed to not like them if you're not a big fan of the genre they portray. This however, is worthy of Spike Spencer sticking a grenade down their pants when they're not looking.

Well I don't think the Lorax is trying to push a liberal agenda, I think it's instead talking about an important issue, one that was important back in 1988 and is still important today. I doubt Dr. Suess was trying to brainwash children, just trying to give a good moral, "if you get rid of all the plants, you destroy the ecosystem." It was an eco-friendly message that's all.

I honestly don't see what the fuck fox's problem is...eco-friendly messages have been in kid's movies for years, anybody remember ferngully? And yet people still litter. I don't think anyone has to worry.
I bet you anything that if someone was to make a kids movie that made drilling for oil seem like a rightous cause, or had a anti-gay message, the whole of the Fox would call it a must see for the whole family.

Are they HIGH?

Studio Ghibli = Occupy Wall Street?

Also, which children are honestly going to watch these films and see these 'hidden' messages. Children are going to be sad that trees are being cut down, yes. But...What the hell is Fox News on about?

Hardly a Miyazaki movie, he mostly just helped rewriting the script from an already original story with the help of another.

It's not nearly 'out there' enough to called one of his films. He kinda just put his stamp of approval on it. Still a great film tho, but not as great as a movie directed by the God that is Hayao Miyazaki.
Miyazaki has the single drop effect, by touching a film in progress he has already blessed it.

That's fair enough though, Ghibli is a great studio as a whole and this film was the thing that was going to keep them from going under. I'm gonna go see it just to support them.

You know when someone is sticking up for the 1% they are not to be trusted as a news source. Not that that is in itself news, since we all know Fox is ridiculous. I feel bad for the kids of republicans who won't be allowed to watch Ghibli classics now though.
You bring up an excellent point. I can't imagine what my childhood would be like without Spirited Away.

Fox News, go home. Nobody wants you here.
