The Borrowers never give the stuff back. They should be called The Thieving Little Bastards.
Sorry, that's always bothered me.
I'll go back to ignoring everything Fox News says.

Fox News is like Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind, seeing patterns and messages where they don't exist.

The real kicker of The Secret World of Arriety is that if you actually, y'know, watch the damn movie, the human who tries to "help" by giving stuff to the Borrowers doesn't realize he's causing all sorts of trouble for them.

Anyone know if Arietty is good? I love Ghibli films.
It is good. Very good.

But, it's Ghibli, so being awesome is no surprise.

What the hell does the Secret World of Arriety have to do with the 1%? Seriously?
I am thoroughly ashamed for my actual understanding of this preposterous claim, but my guess is that Fox sees the depiction of the humans in Arrietty as the 1% and the borrowers as the 99%.

Meaning that Fox sees this movie as indoctrinating kids into thinking its okay to steal (borrow) from the rich if you're poor.

...It must be difficult for Fox representatives to enjoy any movie. They're like fucking general Ripper from Dr. Strangelove.
Oh, but the Borrowers in Arriety are a minority and sharing with minorities is a strict No-No in right-wing nutopia.

Fox problem is that they ether manipulate subjects that contain parts that liberals agree on or they simply do not put forth the research effort necessary to accurately acknowledge subjects within the main material.

I work at a news station (CBS). I know bad news when I see it. Occasionally everyone fucks up, says the wrong thing, chokes, or misses a key piece of evidence. Still, while we are a semi liberal station (mostly due to the personality the anchors convey than the actual content of the show) we do not jump at the chance to shove anything even remotely negative about republicans in their faces.

Then again I'm at a local station, main CBS may be different.

(Face palm) Fuck the Fox Network. They haven't been coherent since... I don't know when, actually.

Agreed, friend. I'll get the torches, you find some pitchforks!

Arrietty is a Japanese film based on a series of novels by an English author. Of course its unamerican. If it wasn't produced in the US (or china) then we don't want it.

Did anyone else laugh out loud when they saw that "Controversy" was one of the tags for this post?

If I ever become famous enough to be asked onto Fox I will laugh hysterically the entire time and if they ask what my problem is I'm going to answer, "Sorry but I think my opinions deserve better than to be on a sh@#$ty two-bit tv program".

Hopefully it's on the Bill O'Reilly show because that guy is the king of the conservative assholes.

I'm sorry it's "liberal" to want big-business to stop taking 99% of the wealth of this country and giving it to less than 1% of the population.

I'm sorry it's "liberal" to want those same big-businesses to make up excuses to completely abolish employee benefits, health coverage, pension funds, and the like.

I'm sorry it's "liberal" to want them to also actually pay their taxes (instead of getting massive tax breaks they don't need) as well as them to follow regulatory laws as far as both environmental and labor are concerned.

Wait a second, I'm not sorry at all. If all those things are "Liberal", then I'm proud to be a Liberal. Because right now, our country sucks. George Washington would weep, if he were alive today, to see that we've traded one king an ocean away for no-crowned kings here who bought their dictatorship style rule.

Who is this that has suggested that children will immediately and without doubt take any underlying theme on face value as not a moral message but an instruction?

Same reason I take umbrage with the people that claim that whole Disney Princess thing is harmful to children, immediately assuming that children can't separate fantasy from reality.

Wow, just wow you wanna go see the movie but don't agree with the message, then go spend lots of money on concessions then throw it all of the ground. Since when is teaching your kids to be dick heads better then teaching then to care about the welfare of others and the planet they live on?

/facepalm. :(

As a Brit, can some Americans explain why being a liberal is as bad as **** punting an old woman? "Oh noes, this film says be nice to the enviroment PROTECT THE CHILDREN! BURN THE FILM!"

"Are you thinking of helping your fellow man Timmy?" "Yes, Pa." "That's the wrong thing to do son! You should stomp them into the dirt and climb to the top on their bodies!"
About a generation back, the right-wing of the time (remarkably sane people compared to the ideologues that we have now) succeeded in turning the word "liberal" into a curse word. Now it's pretty much spouted mindlessly to describe anything that the GOP is opposed to.

And personally, I get a feeling that behind every Faux News commentator is a sad, sad individual who is just following a script and whose soul is privately crying out for sweet oblivion.... or at least a job that involves some intellectual integrity and creativity.

Right. He hasn't watched any other Ghibli films, did he? Since this is the main theme in what, 80% of ALL THEIR MOVIES?

Everyone is all "Ghibli is Japanese!! LOLOLOL!" while forgetting that they're owned by Disney now.
o_O

Uh....that's not true.
Disney just distributes their movies internationally. Ghibli's doing very well and would probably go out of business before letting a foreign company buy them up.
Oop. Indeed that is the case. I just misread some blurb of an article about the topic. Still, it's not like Arriety is Asian in origin anyway, so why don't they talk about the English ruining "Good ole American values"?

They actualy had a point with The muppets, Ghibli is a japanese studio so their is always going to be a slight cultural disconnect, and for Arietty to have an agenda it would have to have a plot first. still liked the film

Oh god, haven't these jokers ever heard of these books? Don't they read? The Lorax came out in the 70's.

Also, Studio Ghibli ISN'T EVEN HOLLYWOOD!! It's mudda fuggin Japan!

Fox News blows, I can't even believe that they agree with the things they say. I have Libertarian leanings and I hate all this Social Conservative whistle blowing and brouhaha. People need to just give up in the 'culture wars' and just accept diversity of opinion and not try to win every argument with "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" and focus on real issues like our out of control debt crisis and unemployment. Get us out of the War on Terror and Drugs as well! Stop wetting your pants at every sign of a difference of opinion. To hell with Lou Dobbs and Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh.

What?

Seriously...

What?

The Lorax I can sorta understand.(Although I haven't actually read the book or seen the movie just some clips)

But Arrietty? That's probably the most removed from all this political bullshit I've seen in a movie presented on Fox News.

So yeah, we get it, Fox News are a bunch of idiots. How about we talk about The Secret World of Arrietty now? Anyone seen it? What did you think of it?

I thought it was a really good movie. Although I wasn't that surprised at how good it was considering it was made by the same studio that created Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky. The other two Studio Ghilbi movies I have seen in my life.

I don't like the fact that they just had 4 rich old white men that all agree with each other as their panelists. They usually invite one person they disagree with to yell over. But this was all like "I need a break form all this propaganda" "As do I" "Ga faw, Ga faw, Ga faw"
