The whole "Art Video Games Art?" debate is pointless. Some games are, (Dante's Inferno), some games are not (Call of Duty). Not all games should be considered an artistic statement. However, if funding is involved, it should be mentioned that even the most bland shooter has tons of character rendering and mapping. Look at Spartans in Halo. Somebody had to create those images.

God. Fucking. Damn. It. I'm not even from the US and I hate these fuckers anyway. They represent everything that's wrong with the media.

All games are art and ignorance of this only causes more confusion for people on the outside looking in.
Grand Theft Auto. Duke Nukem. That school shooting mod game. The Conker series. Twisted Metal. Mortal Kombat. Ninjabread Man. God of War. Most of the Movie Tie-in games out there.

You're really going to try to classify all those kinds of games as art?

I can keep going if you need me to.
You saying Postal isn't art? You can make some very pretty pictures with blood!

Dear other countries in the world, if you get made and decide to attack and invade the United States, please strike Fox News HQ first, then I promise we will try to work out a compromise afterwards...
I believe that every one of us Norwegians on this site who has seen Fox News' blatant stupidity will promise this. Then, we shall party all night long with the rest of the US.
Also, watch this and switch Khadafi (Or however you spell it in English, we say Gadaffi) with Fox News, and switch "World leader" with "News network":

I am neither shocked or surprised by this. It just makes me laugh that people can be ignorant and simple minded when doing a story like this.

...How is Dante's Inferno your first-go-to thought when you think of "Games are art"?
In reality, everything is art, some art is just shitty.

Because we didn't see this coming... :( Doesn't make it any easier to see that people find games to be such an illegitimate medium. Also; they don't complain about the fact that movies etc. are getting state funding, do they? Ugh. FOX; scum of the Earth.

Anyone fancy helping me blow up the Fox News building?

C4, your funny.
I can see the next FOX-News headline already.

"Videogames create terrorist! Well known videogame-website discusses widespread destruction of public building!"

You took the bait. I chose Dante's Inferno because I recently played through it after purchasing it and setting it down after a couple days. After going through every level, how could one not think it is art? They went to great lengths to utilize the "theme" of each level. The story is great, and it's based off an epic poem. For me, nothing comes to mind before Dante's Inferno.

Why do we even care to begin with?
Fox news is kinda like what a moron considers "good news" so lets just ignore it and play some Mario.

Or perhaps we could ignore them instead of fueling their fire?

Instead of calling attention to Fox News' ignorance, which could by now only be a grasp for ratings and you know it, we could ignore it and it will go away. Running sensationalist news stories (this one) to call people against equally sensationalist news stories (Fox) is akin to filling a fire engine water tank with petrol. Ignore them and they will realise that it's not getting them any views and clicks and they will turn to something else. Trying to convince them otherwise by billowing and shouting not only proves their point to their reader base, but encourages them to continue the offensive.

Seriously, just let them be crazy in their own wee bubble, they have absolutely no clout except with the people who watch them, people who are too far gone to convince of a videogame's right to be called art anyway.

And this is the exact reason why i don't like watching or listening to the news. The informative media has degrade itself to the point where it just wants to increase the number of viewers it has rather than getting their facts straight and present what is noteworthy. It saddens me that imbeciles like this are getting a decent pay check why those who do have a common sense have to work hard and barely make it from paycheck to paycheck. Another note what really makes me mad is that they had to pick an easy target like Call of Duty (surprised this time they didn't use Grand Theft Auto) in their attempts to basically tarnish the potential video games have. I mean they could have used a game like say flower, linger in the shadows, or hey one of the Assassins Creed titles. This has been carlos with the rant on imbeciles.

I love how its titles "fair and balanced debate." I don't think fox understands those two words
When you have to put those words in the title, it always means that there is something incredibly rotten behind the scenes. It's like when our villages playground and football fields were done up, the sign above the gate says "inclusive playpark". As soon as you see that overcompensation, alarm bells should be ringing in your ears.

They might have designed the levels very nicely, but that's graphics, is the game-play worth to be considered art?
The story is a crappy knock-off from Divina Commedia. Then again, I am unsure how to judge a game as "art", but a great story, complexity of characters, sound and view, setting..You could really judge it by the same standards we judge movies.
But then again, all movies are art. So all videogames are art, if we use the same standards.

Some art is just shitty (and yes, I'm calling it shitty).
