You might be on to something! Those killers all drank water too, right? Well then we need to ban water! And they wore clothing, right? Then we need to ban clothes!acolyte said:"Three more recent killers... all were active video game players."
Something else that those killers had in common was the need to breath oxygen...oh god...it all makes sense now. BAN OXYGEN!
Shhh! Nobody believes music makes people violent anymore!Scrumpmonkey said:They're re-airing 'The Columbine Scapegaot'? Why don't they just go ahead and blame Marlyn Manson too? Its about as relevant.
Keep in mind, Fox News would probably label you a pedophile anyway.evilneko said:If video games can make people killers, why aren't I a child-rapist after all the anime and manga I've watched/read, especially after Kodomo no Jikan, Sky Girls, and Pantsu--er Strike Witches?
They already won a lawsuit essentially stating they're not beholden to truth and are for novelty purposes only. I think a lawsuit would merely give them more fuel and waste our money. The Great JT said:Can we file a class-action suit against them for slander? Maybe that will shut them up.
The only difference is Megalodon needed a disclaimer.triggrhappy94 said:Guys, Everyone calm down!
It's just like the Megalodon "documentary" Discovery played last Shark Week. They play it off like they're super serious then at the end of the credits, they flash a screen saying that none of it was true.
Ramsey also had a seriously fucked up childhood. His dad even took a gun into a newspaper office and took hostages because they wouldn't publish his letter. If that's where you're getting your sense of right and wrong, what chance do you have?thedragon232 said:The article seems more of there are people whom went on murdering spree who happen to play violent video games but there is no proof that there is a correlation between the two. Also the quotes given from the murderers showed that there were mental problems such as how Evan Ramsey didn't understand that people would die if you shoot them and he was in high school at the time. Plus why was he even able to gain access to a firearm?
The "braindead" are scared and vote in massive numbers. They also tend to be the most dangerous.Doclector said:But y'know what, go ahead fox. Make the world laugh at you more. Have your little pocket of fucking morons who take you seriously believing you. By this point, most of the non braindead world has had it with you, and knows that trying to make you act rationally is a fool's game.
Yeah...I forgot about florida. And texas. And the large majority of the bible belt. Goddamn, can the intelligent people of america just secretly develop ways to give themselves superpowers and take over?Zachary Amaranth said:The "braindead" are scared and vote in massive numbers. Personally, I'm planning on going the LEx Luthor route myself....Doclector said:Yeah...I forgot about florida. And texas. And the large majority of the bible belt. Goddamn, can the intelligent people of america just secretly develop ways to give themselves superpowers and take over?
Unfortunately, Fox still has enough people listening that that's quite hard.IamLEAM1983 said:At this point, all we can do is look to Faux Noose the way we might at the frothing lunatic with a "The End is Nigh" poster across his chest. That is, evasively, after which we just go on our merry way.
Rulings can change, however. Or rather, new rulings can come out on new grounds. Gaming is still young enough it might end up going back before the Supreme Court in a way that most media wouldn't.icythepenguin said:Considering that the Supreme Court gave violent video games protection under free speech Fox News is just wasting its time at this point. But I guess they don't have anything better to do.
What surprises me is that they haven't taken it down. FoxNews.com has a reputation for removing or doctoring unfavourable polls (most recent one I can think of is when a gun control poll didn't go their way, it was locked then suddenly had thousands more pro-gun votes on it. After being locked. This is common).CriticKitten said:It is, however, rather hilarious that most of their own viewership doesn't think video games have any relationship with violence in society. Almost like they're old enough to remember when this same line was trotted out for movies, and television, and books, and comics, and every other form of media capable of expressing violence.
Does... does this mean you'll make a kick starter? I'll give you money. I'll give you all the money.Dr.Awkward said:You know what? The only way we're going to get Fox News to shut up is if we get together, buy them out, and shut them down permanently. If we can do that, it would show just how tired we are of the sensationalist shit we have to deal with every day that comes from them and other news outlets.
While I agree that rulings can be changed it is much harder to change a precedent then it is to create one. Anyone trying to ban video games will have a significantly harder uphill battle.Zachary Amaranth said:Rulings can change, however. Or rather, new rulings can come out on new grounds. Comics are exempt because I suspect they'll come up in front of SCOTUS sooner rather than later because of any number of things, but mostly the whole "child pornography" thing. You know, kids who read manga getting busted for "kiddy porn?" Though to be fair, I haven't seen many stories on that recently....
Rap might also come up, becausepunkrap is nothing but death and crime and the rage of a BEAST!
I don't have a ton of money, but I would definitely contribute to this cause.Dr.Awkward said:You know what? Solutions are bad for the bottom line, though. Education is bad for the panic and fear that sells Fox to people.barbzilla said:OT: These people really need to find some new scapegoat, or, I don't know, maybe actually look for the real root cause. The big thing about American law in this category is that by adding 'possibly' or 'some say', it turns it into a constitutionally protected opinion instead of blatant lies and libel. And this applies to statements from corporations because, and I'm not lying about this, a clerk wrote an opinion about a case that THE SUPREME COURT REFUSED TO HEAR.RicoADF said:Can't Rockstar, Activision etc sue the ass off Fox for defamation, lying to their audience etc? Or doesn't America have laws that require what you broadcast to millions of people not be full of bullshit?
*remembers what he saw on Fox News when he visited the states and other stories he's heard* ....... I'm going to lean towards no.
