Well, I have mixed opinions about Futurama.

I will say that immediatly jumping on Fox might not be the right move since we're not in possession of all the information. For example how much are these new Salary demands, especially in comparison with what they were getting paid? Plus despite all the fans one has to weigh that in comparison with what the show is making. How much are people willing to pay/bid fo an ad spot during Futurama?

The cost to produce shows has to be weighed by the amount of money that can be made by advertising/sponsorship. A lot of shows don't make it/get cancelled by simply being too expensive to produce. This is also why a lot of good shows never get picked up. This can revolve around FX, paying the actors, or other factors.

Allegedly Star Trek lasted a very long time despite claims that the networks were losing money on it. The basic claim being that they kept it alive for the fans, despite the cost to produce the episodes/pay the cast being higher than they could get from advertisers. Tie in products/promotions/etc... seeing a vast amount of the money but also seeing it split up a lot of differant ways. I use this as an example simply because of the claims over the years.

You can't keep too many things around that way due to raw love, and it takes a special kind of investment to have networks and producers find ways to contrive to make something profitable (or at least break even) so they can do it, as opposed to make money.

Fururama isn't anything like that I don't believe, and it seems to be a fight between the Network and the cast. Basically the Network feels they can make money off the show, and like it enough to want to keep it around, BUT you've got the cast demanding more money than they ever have before and apparently enough to be an issue.

Without hearing what their demands are, it's hard to say whether we should be yelling at Fox to pay them, or sticking our collective fan-worn boots up the rear of the voice actors for being a group of greedy putzs.

I mean look at it this way, the guy who does Zoidberg is funny (even if I don't watch it that often), but if the dude is like saying that it's not enough for him to have a brand new Lamborgini, but he wants his own personal private jet as well (or whatever, it's probably not that exagerrated) I'm not entirely sure I'd be screaming "Greed" at Fox.

True, but I think most people would rather have them not produce it if they don't have the original cast. They want to keep the integrity of the show alive.

Also, I've seen two of your posts now, and I'd hate to be mean, but there is a reason the Escapist doesn't allow for signatures. Adding your own to the end of every post just seems a little rude, no?

Valid point on the signature, it's been mentioned before. I tend to type it by reflex whenever I end a message and sometimes "forget" not to do it. I've edited a number of messages after the fact to remove it. Apologies to those that it upsets, I am working on correcting the reflex, but it's not as easy at it might sound.

No macro involved I actually bang that out.

That's the biggest dick move I've ever heard of. If Fox is seriously planning on doing this, then they may as well cancel the return of Futurama, I like my Zap Brannigan how it is, thankyou very much.

no, the show must NOT go on... not if they're gonna replace the personalities of the characters. i know it's only the voice, but hell that makes such a huge impact... bad decision, I must say

It's a shame we can't know what the actors are asking for and some comparisons to see whether or not it's reasonable.

Ultimately it boggles the mind that Fox would go so far as to ressurect the series, then hobble it's earning capacity (in the name of cutting costs...?!) by bringing in new talent which inevitably divides - and loses who knows how much of - the audience which has campaigned for Futurama's return.

Considering we don't now how much of a pay raise they are asking for I'm not sure why everyone is pointing the gun at fox right away.

I don't see how it won't... I mean do the voice actors write the script for the show? Don't the writers do that? I think its more important to make sure its still the same writers.
They've also cut back on the writing staff, so that's gone down the toilet as well. I'm not sure exactly which writers will remain, but you can bet the show will be worse for it.

They shouldn't even be bringing back Futurama in the first place. They should have just left it alone so that it died at the peak of it's awesomness (for want of better word, one that exists preferably. I'm tired!).

The reactions to the movies were less than enthusiastic and they really should use that as a barometer for whether or not they should recommission the show. The idea that they'd bring it back without the original cast is laughable: the actors made those characters who they are by making them their own.

The fans will reject this new Futurama; it kinda calls to mind the first season, when the Slurm Queen has that marketing ploy to make millions from the sale of new Slurm, then going back to Classic Slurm.

Why does Fox insist on defacing everything we love on a regular basis? It's practically criminal the determination they have for doing so...

Fox is laying the blame on the actors themselves however, saying: "We love the 'Futurama' voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands. While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on."
You cheap bastards. Your going to ruin a good show because "The show must go on." FOX, you have clearly missed the point of bringing back the show.

We want Futurama back, AS IT WAS BEFORE. Way to miss the point AND ruin everything, FOX.
