FPS Developers Support Call of Duty Subscriptions

An MMOFPS? Sure, if you fancy that sort of thing, knock yourselves out. Making me pay to use the online component of Modern Warfare 2, or Halo Reach? Go to hell. I play online FPS' casually, every now and then, for fun, when I don't quite fancy going at any of my current single player games. I can't justify spending extra money on this, and I think a lot of people have similar views.

Hey, hey, hey buddy. Planetside was fucking amazing. Shit, I'd still be playing it today if my friends were into it.
Eh.

Regardless of what you think of Planetside, it doesn't change that the population of the game is pretty low and it's down from three servers to just one.

Sure, people may think it's a good game, and it is pretty good, but, it's definitely not all that successful.

As for me?

Well. I'm a consumer, of course I don't want to pay more than I possibly have to.

I don't regard the quality of the games worthwhile and it's a reasonable assumption that Activision would combine this with DLC, map packs and whatever else in an effort to may people pay as much as possible for what used to be considered standard.

There will be other shooters, and frankly in this age it's hard to distinguish between them, so, who cares, go for the most reasonably priced and most content filled, and be happy.

Yes well, I couldn't care less about what FPS developers think. The problem is that the customers (you know the people you're trying to sell you're fucking product) do not like subscriptions and I am fed up with all the industry's retards telling people what great new ways they have come up with to fuck over it's audience.

You could just play a normal call of duty game every year(because that's activision's and IW's business plan) on Steam.(PC games cost less occassionally)

To be totally fair, Planetside did pretty well for it's time, but that time has passed. If SOE is still able to turn a little profit off it then good for them though.

Hmm I foresee the greatest and largest boycott beginning in the future if this actually became the intentions of all FPS devs.

I've never really boycotted but this may be my first.

So you're okay with games actually being priced at a hundred dollars AND having a subscription fee?

Pardon me, but if developers really need that much money out of our pockets while still selling at a loss, they're doing something horribly wrong business wise to require so much money.

Don't forget the whole DRM fiasco and DLC issues. The truth is most developers are already trying to squeeze every penny out of us. Though that is the point of a business, don't forget gamers aren't made of money. This kind of thinking isn't helping.

Team Fortress 2? You mean that MMOFPS? The one where you have to grind to get all the new guns? Still, nice try, keep on playing :)
You can't grind except for achievements, or it'll drop randomly. The gameplay isn't centered on grind. I'm guessing you don't play tf2?

I used tf2 as an example because VALVe releases new content regularly (in VALVe time) at the grand price of free. A stark contrast to the map pack DLCs used by... most everyone else.

Well for a Call of Duty mutliplayer only MMO type thing, yes. Just never bring it for proper entries with a single player campaign.

Look on the bright side, after the majority of shooters go MMO based, someone will come up with a revolutionary idea known as a "Single Player Campaign" in an FPS. They'll decide to write a complex and interesting story that lasts upwards of eight hours and in a real boost to the advertising of these games, will be free to play after the initial purchase.
Until then, I'll play other genres that already have interesting and lengthy single player experiences.

Is it just me, or did news from the gaming community became less "wow, look what awesome stuff you can do in this neat new game" and more "wow, look at this new awesome way to monetize games"? Thats really sad...

I 100% agree on this, whats wrong with single player? You can go at your own pace, pause when you want, engage in something that keeps you wanting to play, and you dont have to deal with the 4 year olds on there. When I play l4d I always play with bots or split screen, sure, the bots are annoying, but not as annoying as the idiots on live.

The only time when online competitive multiplayer is good is when its a good TEAMWORK game (tf2, l4d or kf), a completely modable game for wacky stuff, or a balanced tourney style game taken seriously, and even then, it still depends on whos roaming the servers at that time.

I guess I'm just going to have to keep ignoring FPS's
Psst... I got whacha need...

*looks left*

*looks right*

*opens jacket*

It updates itself [http://store.steampowered.com/app/440/], new players, and more fun than a new military shooter. That'll be $20 bucks.
Already have it. Don't really like it.

Paying money a month to create an ever changing MMOFPS with new content and good servers.

sure...and weed makes you smarter. I doubt Activision could come up with enough stuff without breaking the game to warrent paying monthly. Without some form of RPG elements (character builds and roles for example) the game will undoubtedly fall flat on its promisses.
