I think it's time to stop giving this woman the attention she so desperately seeks. It's just a crappy internet blog. It's no different than 99% of the other blogs in the world. Don't read it.

I wonder if she noticed the Escapist is an International community.... Good job lady, you just got mocked by Representatives from around the world. She must be new to the internet to think it's limited to her USA (coincidentally, that where I live). To borrow a quote from 4chan, "GOOD JOB, NEWFAG!"

But really, this is a scathing attack based of no research. No citations of sources, no citations of views that disagreed with her. Then again, sounding like the Faux News addict, Frumpy probably believes science is evil as are scientific institutions because they're "liberal."

I'm also going off on a limb here and saying she reads [link]http://www.conservapedia.com[/link]

Hey, if frumpy is willing to make unfair statements, so am I.

Lose our critical thinking skills?!? Really? If anything video games can help lead to critical thinking skills when they're well written or have challenging puzzles. I've been playing video games for a good 20 years now and I wouldn't say they've damaged my critical thinking skills. I'm a Junior in college, majoring in Biology with a 4.0 GPA. This lady needs to get off her high-horse and shove it up her ass.

Point in defence of videogames:

Take this one scottish teenager, Benjamin P. Cassidy. He is an avid gamer, a veteran of popular series such as the elder scrolls, KotOR and Halo. He has been seriously gaming since the turn of the century, and continues it to this day. Now, take a quick look at his Standard Grade exam results (A scottish grading system with numerical values, ranging from a Credit 1 to a 7, failure)

English : 1
Maths : 1
Chemistry: 1
History : 1
Computing: 1
Music : 1
French : 2
Physics : 2

near perfect results, of which he managed to balance gaming and revision perfectly. Now, does this seem like a child who has been mentally stunted by the interactive medium of video games?

For more proof, take his friend Gregor Smith, who is arguably even more dedicated to video games:

English : 2
Maths : 1
Chemistry: 1
History : 1
Computing: 1
Music : 1
French : 1
Physics : 1

As you can see, even better results. If you take this trend as Canon, it would be evident that the exact opposite is true: videogaming can enhance the mental abilities of children.

Of course, these two are ideal cases. The fact of the matter is, there is no link between intelligence and videogames. Some kids are simply stupid of their own accord, and it is a mere coincidence that they share the same hobby.

I think the best thing to do in these situations is to just ignore the lady.
Especially noticing she has the argumentative strength of a 13 year old internet troll.

People are playing right into her game.

Please dudes and dudettes, don't give her the power of attention, lest you want Faux News to start considering taking a slice of that attention pie. Again.

Dear Escapist editors,

Why are you feeding the troll? Why are you guys sending hordes of stupidity her way that will do nothing less than reaffirm her position? Have you guys and gals become double agents trying to take down the industry from the inside? Did I wake up in Bizzaro world? I mean you can't honestly believe that anything we gamers could say that will change her mind just like there is nothing she can say that will change ours. There is no discussion value here. Report and move on.

Satan did not invent video games.

Lord Voldemort did.

1. What better way to turn children away from good magic and into the dark side, than to put them in a darkened room for hours every day with a joystick and a big screen, where they practice killing things for fun?

He loves the deathly pallor of the video game addict, who has forgotten what daylight looks like. He loves the isolation you feel, because you need nothing but a video screen and a controller to feel content.

Soon, he plans to take advantage of this and become the controller, and then good luck trying to find Harry Potter to save you.

2. Video games are educational? Sorry, people, I do not believe for one second you are learning quantum physics while you are shooting down zombies.
1. Makes me want to play more games!!!!

2. Quantum comes latin meaning "how much", so How much/how many zombies must be blown up to equal the energy created by a nuclear explosion. well 41,946,134 ALOT... We must pick up the pace on the Zombie Genocide!

I now hate her even more. Go die Female Jack Thompson.
To be fair to Jack Thompson (and I never thought I'd use those words) he goes after specific kinds of video games (usually the violent ones) and as far as I know has no problem with video games as a whole like this woman does. So yes, she has done the apparently impossible: She has made Jack Thompson look reasonable in comparison.

That said, let's face it, all these articles about her are just giving her free publicity, just ignore her and move on.

I actually hate her more than I do Jack Thompson. If only they offered the death penalty for stupidity...then this world would be a much better place.

Oops, I should apologize about what I said earlier. Wait, apologies are usually filled with nice words right? Oh well, calling every gamer and game designer a moron should work too.

Considering that gamers will often come to websites such as this and have discussions and debates that will arguably INCREASE their ability to think... i'd say she's pretty much full of crap.

My issue with her is not that she won't buy games, or that she places password protection on everything that's unfortunate enough to have pixels in her presence.

It's that she acts like she's better than everyone else because of all this crap that she does.

If I felt like preservatives gave you cancer and sugar gave you AIDS I would do everything in my power to stop my (figurative) children from consuming it while they were in my house, sure. But I wouldn't gloat about how awesome and organic the food is in my house, and ponder why all of my friends are fine with their kids dying.
Just because I have scruples and found like 5 sources with circumstantial evidence doesn't give me the right to be a dick to everyone.

Common consensus these days is that videogames are bad for kids. However, in the middle ages, common consensus around the world was that the earth was flat.

Case closed.
The Earth was known to be round far before the middle ages. Hell, the Greeks figured out the exact diameter in something like 237B.C.E. The only real question was what exactly existed within it.

It's also not really common consensus that video games are necessarily bad, but whatev.
Well, if you're gonna try and out-history me, in the Dark Ages, after the break up the Roman Empire, when most knowledge was lost, people went back to believing the earth was flat. It may have been a bad way of putting it, but never, ever try to outdo me on history. Unless you have a Masters in it, or teach it.
