Gendo Ikari, best dad ever.

Shinji Ikari, only person to complain that he gets to pilot a giant robot and live with MILFsato.
Yea, the guy that got his wife and many others killed pursuing a mad man's dream. The guy that orphaned "MILFSato" in the first place. The guy that treats his son like he's not even there, UNTIL he needs him to fight ungodly abominations. Yea, a 16 years old with no military training, put in a position where the FATE OF HUMANITY depends on him putting his life on the line via the piloting of a robot made from his dead mother. Weird. All the while, having to live with a drunk

Also, to boil down Misato's somewhat tragic character to a porn cliche. Wow.

It's like some people look for reasons to go 'nuhhuh, that's totally not why!'.

You're not impressing anyone, on the contrary, you're pointing out something people already know and missing the whole point of these things we call jokes.
I didn't miss the joke, I just didn't think it was funny. He's covered the NGE stuff before, and he's not really doing anything new with his criticism. He's entitled to his opinion, but I still don't think that it works as satire because it ignores "something people already know".

For example: "Hey, "the Simpsons" sure sucks because of Bart's Oedipus complex for Marge!"

Now if you're at all familiar with the Simpsons, you can immediately tell that I've gotten a key detail wrong about the series. I've taken Marge's character trait of loving Bart as a son, and I've broadly misinterpreted it to be something that sounds "funny" but does not reflect the actual series. At that point, it's not satire.

One another note: Listen, I know what a joke is. I also know how to respond to criticism without talking down or acting like I'm only funny person in the room. If you want to have a respectful conversation, don't go trying to make your opponent out to be a petulant child, so that you can make yourself look like the "last bastion of reason and comedy in all the internet". I have the views I have, because they are my views.

I'm not trying to impress anybody, nor am I desperate fan boy crying over spilled milk, but it would appear that treating others with a modicum of respect just falls short of meeting your criteria for a proper response.
For someone who claims to know how jokes work, you did real number missing the point of this one :D
Is it so much to ask that you actually read what I wrote and directly respond to me? Listen, if you didn't have anything to add or rebut regarding my argument, don't make another post and just let it go. If you want to have a discussion, then have a damn discussion and don't come back with one sentence "take downs". It's very clear that neither of us respects each other at this point, and I'm fine with that if it ends here.

Okay. Al is awesome! Has a life that would make anyone else crack, and just keeps on going.

Should be noted that Al can't sleep as a suit of armor. He literally stays up all night while others sleep. Nor can he eat, smell, or feel things. His life is a shell of a life. It's probably one of the most tragic lives in just about any series I've seen. And yet, he does take it remarkably well.

Learn that Kung Fu, Al. You crazy magnificent bastard.

To be fair though, if the roles were reversed, then Al still wouldn't (and couldn't) do much about the NGE harem throwing themselves at him.

I've had people tell me FMA wasn't good anime because it was "too westernized." Ha.

Also, Elric brothers are kick-ass.
By that logic, Cowboy Bebop was horrible. (Spoiler alert: It was awesome)
Well I did hear that Cowboy Bebop was a lot more popular in the west then it was in Japan where it sort of just faded away. If I am wrong someone correct me.
You are completely correct. Honestly, its the reason why most people thought the show didn't get a second season. Japan didn't like it when it came out, so they assumed it'd flop if a second season was made.

Great punchline. It got a chuckle out of me, since I love both shows and stories for different reasons.

Evangelion was anime's Watchmen. The heroes and side characters made all the most selfish, cowardly, and wrongheaded choices imaginable and then savoring the moment these characters turn around and realize how terrible these choices were. Shinji, Misato, Gendo, Asuka, Ritsuko, Kaji, all of them had these moments and they are still indelible to me. Did the studio make some terribly cheesy and contrite money grab licensing deals? Without a hesitation or doubt, YES. This emerged from how EVA itself was made on a shoestring budget and the last 2 episodes suffered for this.

FMA original and Brotherhood were 100% undiluted awesome and homage to the hero's journey as experienced through 2 heroes with the same goal yet occupying different shades of the same worldview.

Oh boy, here we go again. Let's see, he also has had various tragedies that we are lucky to never happen as stated in the comic: abandonment, low self-confidence, and extreme pain and agony to the point of wanting to die.

that giant robot, it will literally torture you as you fight because of the pain transmission, everytime an angel blast or rips a chunk of flesh off, you feel that agonizing pain and since the actual damage is not occurring on your body, it tend to cause a mental drain

as for the women, Misato has her own problems and as of Eva 3.0 kind of hates Shinji for third impact. Asuka is extremely closed off and pushes Shinji away so hard that he feels even greater abandonment. Rei is pretty much a empty shell that can be replaced over and over and that continual cycle of having someone you are close to die and come back with no memory of your experience together would have an effect.

I'm honestly tired of people who say that Shinji should stop whining. The pain he goes through and the timeframe he experienced them would crack many people in real life.
Called it.

I'm very well aware of the actual implications of the show.

See, we have these things we do for comic effect.

You may of heard of them before, they're called jokes.
Now you see kids, this is what we call failing to read between the lines. As much as I love FMA it's also extremely formulaic. The evangellion angle is getting rehashed again. To reiterate that Shinji's an emotionally stunted character. Again. The joke isn't even funny and there's no actual punchline.

Jokes only work so far as they're funny. This isn't. On the plus side of things at least the Escapist can't say they're not green.

Are Grey and Cory in love with Eva? How many comics have there been so far about this anime? You can't make this many without having some sort of liking for the show.

29-year old women are milfs now?

Damn, I'm getting old.
Age has no bearing on milf status. If you have a kid as a woman, you are a mother.
And hopefully a Hot Mother who gives Juice Boxes after a night of fun. It's those extra things in life that make dating older women all the more worthwhile.

Y'know, if you really have to think about it.
Lelouche was used as a bargaining chip by his dad after he had his mother killed, then abandoned and left to rot as a hostage in another country; alone and unloved, far away from home. He destroyed the most powerful empire in human history and then built a new world order through fear before doing what needed to be done to ensure peace. He killed several billion people when he dropped a nuke on Tokyo. His father attempted to wipe out all of time, and he had to kill his own mother. He killed his best friends lover who was preaching peace because his plan required there to be no peace until HE ensured it.

Yes, the life of a savior of humanity is harsh. No one of us would do better. But Lelouche and Al sucked it up and forged legends, dropping a few tears every so often, but never letting that bog them down.

Oops, forgot to turn off my mind control powers, and said it would be really funny if you, my best friend's girl friend, murdered the japanese population.

Oh come on, it's like the 4th Critical Miss on Evangelion don't try to deny it! There are two running gags with these strips, one is Shinji being a pussy and the other is outraged Eva fans.

He's said a few times he liked Evangelion 2.0. Makes sense considering it's all about advancing. Then 3.0 happened BWHAHAHAHA!

I think it is worth pointing out that Shinji never has the amount of agency that the Elric brothers have. Where they slowly unravel the underlying conspiracy and know the stakes at the end, Shinji remains an unaware pawn in a game he doesn't know exists, and at end he just happens to have crossed the board.

And he really doesn't get to the "ready to cry" stage, before at the end, where it is pretty much justified, as he really has no one left to confine in.

His friends have been evacuated from the city. And one of them was almost killed by his Evangelion.

Kaji, his best candidate for a father figure, is dead.

He thought he had a chance to understand his father. But the bridge between them is now permanently burned.

Asuka is in a medically induced coma, and even if she wasn't, their last conversation/argument ended on an incredibly sour note.

Misato breached the trust he had in her as a mother figure by making an overtly sexual move on him, and she is consumed with an obsession with continuing Kaji's quest for the truth.

The Rei he knew and confined in is dead, after which he found out the horrible truth about her successor, and he has even deduced that she is somehow related to his mother.

Kaworu, the only person to offer him unconditional love when he need it the most, is dead. By his hand even.

No no no, don't stop them! *pull up chair with a bag of popcorn* This is fun to watch.

OT: Welp, that puts FMA Brotherhood on my list of
"Animes to watch to watch that no matter how good they are will never erase my horrible memories of watching the EVA series/3.0 film"

Don't know who this Al fellow is, but he already gets points for 1. Having a design fit for a badass 2. He seems to cope with "his mother dying a horrific death" awfully well with a simple hobby, and 3. Still a better character then Shinji (But who isn't? I mean c'mon)

A giant robot which he has no experience with and tortures him whenever he gets in it.

I can't tell now if these guys make these comics to piss off eva fans or are genuinely ill informed about eva. Or both.
