Britain. When a british person talks, they become the cutest and most un-threatening person on the Earth. (Except for Yahtzee. He makes me question humanity while he speaks.) I love the accent and their little phrases.
Glad my opinion means that much to you. The American Office is better than the British Office, but the British Office is still good. Not going to change my mind on this.JacobShaftoe said:At this juncture I nominate you and your opinion as proof that America really is pissfunny as all fuck. You made me laugh so hard a fuckin cornflake came out my nose. They should have cast you in the American Office, then I would have coughed up a lung with all the laughing I otherwise failed to do...Nautical Honors Society said:The American Office is leaps and bounds better. It combines wit, awkward realism, and belly laughs (which the British office lacked). People argue they made the American version more low brow but honestly just because the humor was dryer on the British office does not make it better. I mean it was good but sorry America beat England with the office. It is really easy to claim the original I better than the adaptation but if you actually watch both it is easy to tell the American version has a stronger cast and a around staff that is deeply connected to their target audience.JacobShaftoe said:Was almost with you till you wen't and claimed the American Office is even on a frikkin par with the British one. And then you went that one step further and completely lost me. Unless this was some seriously esoteric dark humor, in which case you just won.Nautical Honors Society said:Really? Go watch the dinner party episode of the American office or any Richard Pryor stand up and tell me American comedy doesn't understand black comedy. I think people just have a problem admitting when America is the best at somethingDekkaz said:Huh, I think America is very funny, but not the "funniest". I would say that goes to Ireland or England.
True, America is "funny". But I still think America doesn't grasp "comedy". In that the drama and the pity of life.
Also in case you say the office is British the original show was in fact British but the American counterpart stopped recreating the British episodes half way through the first season. It has greatly surpassed the original show
PS: Black humor and you forgot Bill Hicks? Shame on you!
Sorry not a Bill Hicks fan.
Oh yeah and that apology was totaly nessicary btw. Not being a Bill Hicks fan... shame on you...
Wow. There goes your credability.JacobShaftoe said:Not dissing you, just your taste. I respect your opinion (which is aparently involves mocking me), so why don't you try to respect the opinions of others.
Also, I am not American. So I am more proof that people from Rotherham are funny...nice try though.![]()
It has nothing to do with that at all. The Office is originally English, it's written by Gervais, not really American humour. The thing is that The Office US now is terrible. The English office lived and died great, never a bad episode, every episode perfect. The American office had its moments but it will never come close to the English office. To top it off, season 7 was not needed, the series crashed and burned sadly.Nautical Honors Society said:Really? I'm gonna go with The Netherlands, just because I think Dutch people sound funny.

Nah, America is the funniest nation and not a single episode of the British Office was perfect or any TV show for that matter.Dekkaz said:It has nothing to do with that at all. Yes, Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy. These people were all hilarious. "were". If America is to win funniest nation then they need Comedians now that are funny. I'd rather scrape my eyeballs out with a cheese grater than watch SNL. Granted though, America has a lot of funny people but nothing as funny as back in the 80's or 70's. Jason Sudeikis is the toast of the comedy town and I can't stand his smug guts.
I still don't think America is the funniest nation. Let's be honest, the funniest Comedians in America (not racist) are black. Comedy stems from evil and horror, not happy jumpy SNL people.
The real Comedians are black as they have pasts filled with horror and great sadness. Personally that's why Irish comedians are the best in the world, simply put.
This is not an "America sucks" post or anything, it's that I feel that America won this based on the horribleness of shows on TV. It's all about money, which ruins shows. Big bang is terrible, Two and a Half men is dead, the Simpsons stopped being funny ages ago, Family guy is going, south park is nothing compared to early-middle seasons.
I think American shows die with no dignity, all stretched out for corporate gain. It ruins them. Let's be honest, most Americans don't grasp black humour, look at how they've kicked Gervais off the Golden Globes for a few little jokes.
For a country that is apparently the funniest, barely any have a sense of humour.
