Britain. When a british person talks, they become the cutest and most un-threatening person on the Earth. (Except for Yahtzee. He makes me question humanity while he speaks.) I love the accent and their little phrases.

I'd give it to England over America.
The world looks to America for a lot of entertainment so if a comedy that's goodish comes out we hear about it more than any other nation and that type of thing nurtures better writers.

But England has some of the best humour around as a whole.

In the end comedy is subjective and that's a joke.

Huh, I think America is very funny, but not the "funniest". I would say that goes to Ireland or England.

True, America is "funny". But I still think America doesn't grasp "comedy". In that the drama and the pity of life.
Really? Go watch the dinner party episode of the American office or any Richard Pryor stand up and tell me American comedy doesn't understand black comedy. I think people just have a problem admitting when America is the best at something

Also in case you say the office is British the original show was in fact British but the American counterpart stopped recreating the British episodes half way through the first season. It has greatly surpassed the original show
Was almost with you till you wen't and claimed the American Office is even on a frikkin par with the British one. And then you went that one step further and completely lost me. Unless this was some seriously esoteric dark humor, in which case you just won.

PS: Black humor and you forgot Bill Hicks? Shame on you!
The American Office is leaps and bounds better. It combines wit, awkward realism, and belly laughs (which the British office lacked). People argue they made the American version more low brow but honestly just because the humor was dryer on the British office does not make it better. I mean it was good but sorry America beat England with the office. It is really easy to claim the original I better than the adaptation but if you actually watch both it is easy to tell the American version has a stronger cast and a around staff that is deeply connected to their target audience.

Sorry not a Bill Hicks fan.
At this juncture I nominate you and your opinion as proof that America really is pissfunny as all fuck. You made me laugh so hard a fuckin cornflake came out my nose. They should have cast you in the American Office, then I would have coughed up a lung with all the laughing I otherwise failed to do...

Oh yeah and that apology was totaly nessicary btw. Not being a Bill Hicks fan... shame on you...
Glad my opinion means that much to you. The American Office is better than the British Office, but the British Office is still good. Not going to change my mind on this.

I respect your opinion (which is aparently involves mocking me), so why don't you try to respect the opinions of others.

Also, I am not American. So I am more proof that people from Rotherham are funny...nice try though.

Of course the US is the funniest. Just listing US comedians we love is a thread itself. Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Charlie Chaplin, Steven Wright, Richard Pryor, George Carlin. There are writers such as Mark Twain, Joseph Heller, Mark Vonnegut. Playwrights such as David Ives. Musicians such as Yankovic. There are cartoons like the Simpsons, South Park, Archer, the Venture Bros., the Looney Tunes, and Futurama. Seth MacFarlane catches a lot of shit, but the man himself is truly hilarious. The list goes on. No other nation can match the volume and variety of consistent quality produced by the US.

Not dissing you, just your taste. Hell, I tell my girlfriend her taste is shit cuz she watches The Vampire Diaries, and I still fuck her, so rest assured I don't take personal taste into account when judging the value of people. You're allowed to like what you like, just as I'm allowed to like laughing at what you like :p
Wow. There goes your credability.

Man you are just not a nice person. Aight well, we are done here. Good talk mate.

It has nothing to do with that at all. The Office is originally English, it's written by Gervais, not really American humour. The thing is that The Office US now is terrible. The English office lived and died great, never a bad episode, every episode perfect. The American office had its moments but it will never come close to the English office. To top it off, season 7 was not needed, the series crashed and burned sadly.

Yes, Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy. These people were all hilarious. "were". If America is to win funniest nation then they need Comedians now that are funny. I'd rather scrape my eyeballs out with a cheese grater than watch SNL. Granted though, America has a lot of funny people but nothing as funny as back in the 80's or 70's. Jason Sudeikis is the toast of the comedy town and I can't stand his smug guts.

I still don't think America is the funniest nation. Let's be honest, the funniest Comedians in America (not racist) are black. Comedy stems from evil and horror, not happy jumpy SNL people.
The real Comedians are black as they have pasts filled with horror and great sadness. Personally that's why Irish comedians are the best in the world, simply put.

This is not an "America sucks" post or anything, it's that I feel that America won this based on the horribleness of shows on TV. It's all about money, which ruins shows. Big bang is terrible, Two and a Half men is dead, the Simpsons stopped being funny ages ago, Family guy is going, south park is nothing compared to early-middle seasons.

I think American shows die with no dignity, all stretched out for corporate gain. It ruins them. Let's be honest, most Americans don't grasp black humour, look at how they've kicked Gervais off the Golden Globes for a few little jokes.

For a country that is apparently the funniest, barely any have a sense of humour.

England, without a shadow of a doubt, is the best :D

I watch a few American comedies, they are really funny, but I am a big fan of a certain, old English comedy group, and many others. So England still wins it for me.

Also, I am a fan of Japanese humour as well, just all the stupid stuff they come up with, it's hilarious :D

I put it to them that they've never heard scousers. Scouser stand up comedy is the bomb! England would come way higher if they went to Liverpool for some comedy, providing the judges didn't get stabbed.

I agree that while America exports the most comedy by a wide margin, the people of the UK are funnier because pretty much everyone does comedy unconciously. Things like dramatic understatement, wit and sarcasm are pretty much built into the British psychie with (almost) everyone recognising, using and appreciating it.

How can a body of land be funny?
Italy is shaped like a boot, that's pretty droll. And Florida totally looks like a penis.

I'm gonna go with The Netherlands, just because I think Dutch people sound funny.
Our comedy is very deep.

Well, it used to be, anyway.

Let me rephrase: We have a few very popular people on stages, who are funny, and yet very confronting.

It's a tough call for me personally.

I'm more exposed to British humour culturally, including commonwealth comedy.

American has Chris Rock, Reginald D Hunter (who we are slowly stealing), Rich Hall (who we are also slowly stealing), Dave Chappelle and Bill Hicks. Britain has Frankie Boyle, Ross Noble, We Are Klang and Stewart Lee. Ireland has Dara O'Brien, Ardal O'Hanlon, Jason Byrne and Ed Byrne. Australia has Jim Jeffries and others I forget the name of.

It's a toss up between those 3 >.<

I have to say I rarely find Yanke comedy funny (friends and some good comedians (ie Rich Hall) being the exception ) compared to British comedy, the likes of the comedians that we put up on shows like Micheal McIntyre's Roadshow or Live at the Apollo is just unbelievably funny..

... go for it. I'm sure it would be better than the original Friends.

Nah, America is the funniest nation and not a single episode of the British Office was perfect or any TV show for that matter.

But i'll agree that America does not know when to let shows die. That's why Arrested Development and Seinfeld are considered some of the best comedy series, because they ended while on top.

And let's give this black humor thing a rest ok? Sure I love it as much as the next guy, but not all comedy stems form evil and horror. Some of it comes from pure imagination.

Well done USA!
Personally? I prefer the comedians of Great Britain, but humour is entirely subjective, so what does it matter?

Ireland probably didn't rank because we laugh at our own jokes while most other nations don't really understand what we're talking about.

If there's a God, he's quite cruel.
He made us one of the ugliest countries in the world and then didn't even give us humour, dammit.
