There are many valid complaints about the way we pay for healthcare in the US, many which I would argue alongside you personally. Grossly inefficient is a fair description. "Unable to get treatment", which you said initially, is much less of a fair description for a country in which health services are prolific and accessible.
Guns are prolific and accessible in the USA. But if you don't have the money to buy them, you're shit outta luck.

And that's the point, isn't it? If you can't afford something, it's not accessible.

Honestly, this particular argument is so far from where we started, it's not worth continuing in its current state. Like, yes, wealth does have intergenerational advantages. Those advantages are clearer in a nation that has been wealthy longer. But this argument came from you believing that you couldn't agree with Republicans because we neglect the poor, and your evidence for that was supposed to be social mobility rankings. You're a lot of steps away from making that case stick.
The Republican aim for alleviating poverty is to get people to work. But the pay for work at the bottom end is awful. It's exchanging welfare penury for wage penury. Never mind that the USA is a low unemployment nation (which is good), but that unemployment is practically never going to go below ~4%. Because the government doesn't want it below 4%, because unemployment allows for workplace flexibility (a ready pool of jobseekers) and prevents wage inflation which would reduce the competitiveness of US industry. Never mind that the Republicans (and to be fair the Democrats) are flooded with money by rich business-owners who most definitely don't want to be paying their staff more.

But in many cases, greater employability depends on investment in one's populace in the first place. People have to be taught skills, and brought up with the right attitudes for work, and this should be a key aim of welfare. Not basically scaring people into getting whatever they have to get because after a few months the rug will be pulled from under them. One thing perhaps we forget about welfare is that welfare can be a key foundation to give people security so that they can build on. Constant attacks on welfare often serve merely to make that foundation weaker and less stable.

I am aware that if you go trawling through Republicans, you will most definitely find some who recognise the role of the state in human development and increasing employability. But to view its mainstream policies and actions, the resounding attitude seems to be that bums don't deserve the money of hardworking taxpayers. You can even see this in the way they often call it "entitlement" rather than "welfare": they don't see it as beneficial. Underpinning this is perhaps a trend to moralising views that the poor are poor because they are lazy or venal, rather than that the poor face institutional barriers that degrade their ability to develop skills.

To give you some content other than randos on twitter.

Many of the demonstrators held signs protesting against the coronavirus lockdown, while some were seen setting off fireworks and using laser pointers.
One, who gave his name only as Richard, from London, said the protest, which has taken place on 5 November for several years, was a "continuation" of the "anti-Covid" marches.
"It's basically a continuation of the anti-Covid marches that we've been on since the beginning of the year," he said.
So a mix of protestors including presumably Anti-Maskers went to protest in London wearing Guy Fawkes masks.........

Lol, but also damn if the GOP doesn't have a serious growing tumor they're trying to pretend is normal and fine

A former Green Beret and one-time congressional candidate arrested last month for his alleged participation in the Capitol riot was illegally stockpiling explosives prior to being jailed on charges related to the Jan. 6 pro-Trump siege, according to an FBI search warrant filed Friday in Washington, D.C. federal court.

When federal agents searched 47-year-old Jeremy Brown’s Florida home in October, they reported finding a short-barrel rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, more than 8,000 rounds of ammunition, and two hand grenades. But it was a picture included in a sales listing for his house on Zillow that led to his latest troubles.

In a photo from “what appears to be Brown’s office,” FBI agents spotted a whiteboard with columns labeled “Food,” “Clothing,” “Shelter,” “Currency,” “Communicate,” “Move,” and “Shoot,” the warrant states. In the “shoot” column, it continues, “there are numerous firearms listed and explosive devices such as ‘flash bangs.’”

The entry on the whiteboard indicated that Brown had the flash bangs “on hand,” the filing says, adding that Brown “is not registered to possess explosive devices.”

U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia

Agents are now seeking to search a trailer located on Brown’s property, which the FBI believes he bought about a month ago: “t is unlikely that an individual would market a home available for public inspection with guns and explosives inside of the home, [thus] it is probable ammunition, and explosives, which constitute potential evidence in the investigation, have been moved to the RV or trailer,” the warrant states. Brown remains jailed after a judge in October ruled he was a danger to the community.

An Anacapa Middle School history teacher is no longer working at the Ventura campus after an investigation sparked by a video of in-class comments that have made international news.

On Friday, Ventura Unified School District officials said the female history teacher was no longer working at the 100 S. Mills Road site. Officials declined to say whether the teacher was still employed by the district.

The story erupted earlier this week when CBS Channel 2 in Los Angeles aired an exclusive story that included audio of the teacher telling students that Hunter Biden had "child pornography on his laptop" and "was having sexual intercourse with his own niece," among other politically charged topics.

During the seven-minute recording, the teacher also reportedly discussed vaccines and told students Donald Trump was currently president, according to the broadcast.

The mother of the eighth-grade student who recorded the session told the TV station when her son got in the car after class, he was "very upset" and announced he was never getting vaccinated and never getting any more shots.

Then the boy reportedly asked: "'Did you know Trump's still president?'" the mother told CBS reporter Joy Benedict.

The mother said the encounter damaged her and her husband's relationship with their son, who reportedly told them: "Dad, teachers know everything."

The CBS story has been picked up by news outlets around the country and internationally and has drawn attention on social media.

The station did not name the teacher because she was not charged with a crime. The district did not release her name, citing personnel matters. The CBS segment identified the mother, but The Star has not yet made direct contact with her and is not naming her at this time.

Marieanne Quiroz, spokesperson for the school district, said the recording was shared with school administrators on the evening of Oct. 18. An investigation was launched right away, she said.

Later that week, an administrative team from Anacapa Middle School reviewed the outcome, she said. The results came back just before the school closed for its week-long fall break on Oct. 25.

When school resumed on Nov. 1 – the same day the video was apparently released to the TV station – district authorities were in the process of taking appropriate action, Quiroz said. The probe was conducted according guidelines of the collective bargaining agreement for teachers, Quiroz said.

A call to the union representative for Anacapa Middle School teachers was not immediately returned Friday.

Quiroz said the district "does not condone the non-instructionally related discussion" that took place in class and said officials are working "very closely" to make sure it doesn't happen again.

The teacher in question, she said, has "expressed deep remorse for what occurred."

Which is an idea as old as money itself. Conservatives have a long history of blaming society's ills on the "lax morals" of the poor.

How do you open?

Don't open at all. She's in a shop to buy things and appears to be doing a perfectly good job on her own without some sleazeball hitting on her and spoiling her day.
I mean I wouldn't open I'd probably say something like "May I?" And grab the bag for her if she didn't object because I know it's a pain in the arse to get stuff from a top shelf if you can't reach that well and it's a polite thing to do. I'd probably then just go on with my day after that because as you said she's shopping.

These """"""kids""""""" are really into colonial capitalism. No doubt they ask Santa for Cuba/Indonesia playsets to practice stamping out left-wing movements and backing authoritarian right-wing dictators, while demanding he responds to his elves' worker unions with brutal violence.

Honest to God, I kept waiting for the SNL intro or something to happen, but it isn't actually satire. It feels like it should be with how absolutely ridiculous and cringy it is though.

So to be clear you're mocking the idea that they're aiming stuff at children by showcasing a children's tv character tweeting about getting the vaccine?
And you don't see any irony in putting the two posts so close toghther?

Look I'm pro vaccine but really? Was it the best idea to get Big Bird tweeting about it especially when the whole "vaccines for kids" thing is still quite up in the air (even if I land on the fuck it give them it too it's probably for the best side).

I had someone who was a psych student in a social physiology class use astrology in their assignment. You moron. if I had done that in my political psychology class, or even a General Education class, I would be laughed at.

And this is a 4000 level class at a top 30 public university.

Why don't the psych professors take their class more seriously?

A third of Americans are morons.

You not giving a shit and not bothering to remember or notice my posts unless you can try to dunk on me using them doesn't suddenly make them stop existing

Oh so they've finally decided on it then? Because it wasn't fully decided the other week pretty much.

Also still doesn't undermine my point.

Back into the ether you go to pop up again later I'm sure with yet another pitiful attempt like this.
