They even tried to act like they didn't initially hate Wonder Woman because WB went out of their way to hire a woman director. Suddenly, that movie was anti-woke because it wasn't Captain Marvel.

That movie is honestly one of the most centrist movies I think I've ever seen, not even wanting to divulge the identity of the foreign nation they're attacking. Which in that particular case was probably a good thing, but this not wanting to appear offensive pretty much spreads to everything in that movie, making it lack a real sense of identity. It's a good movie, but everything's just so clean and creaseless, like a Hallmark picture. I'm not a fan of the original Top Gun, but it certainly had some appreciative "smudge" to it.

I'd still take the sequel over the original. Top Gun I have no love nor nostalgia for, other than "Danger Zone". Ironic, because it helped put Tony Scott on the movie director map and help make the personal projects he wanted to make in his life. Tony Scott is one of my favorite action/thriller film directors. You have some points about Maverick, and even Double Toasted pointed out a similar argument, but it's not enough to deter me. Nor do I have too much of a problem with it.
Thank you for clearing that up. First time I ever heard of them say that. Then again, I didn't follow the dumb nonsense that came when CM and Alita came out. I do know that right-wing comic book "fans" were upset when women, teenage girls, and little girls got a free showing of Wonder Woman across the USA during early screenings or opening weekend. Many people and most on the Internet mocked those conservatives and MRAs.

Oh, same here. I couldn't even finish the first Top Gun it was so meandering and dull, but it did have that Tony Scott texture. Maverick is great, but without the realism of the plane sequences there'd be virtually nothing to this movie.
Is Joker gonna shit out a baby?! Because that'd honestly be more interesting then he's been in years.
Most of Scott's later movies do it better anyway with his texturing.
I wouldn't go that far. At least I was able to feel something with Maverick. I know the other reason why a lot of people praise this movie, is because it's not another superhero/MCU/multiverse shenanigans years arc film continuity. Just a movie.

Definitely this. We don't ever get regular old blockbusters anymore, and when we do you can usually feel the budgetary constraints. Not here though, it's just a nice, simple, solid summer movie.
Saw Junior twice, and never again. I think most people don't bother remembering the movie at this point. Even boomers don't seem to care to remember much anymore.
I noticed non-superhero blockbuster films started faltering in 2014-2015. Hell, just regular R-Rated action films were becoming less of a thing for a hot while, unless the movie was straight to DVD. Ironically, straight to home video action films began improving since 2009 and only got better around 2013. As much as I complain about the John Wick sequels (mainly 3), it's great to have hard action films again not just be neutered to "shaky cam PG-13" or "shaky cam realism R-Rated gunmetal grey/dogshit brown". Christ that trend went on for way too long and did so little like the cover shooters of 7th generation.
