Wasn't sure where to put this, but since some anti-environmentalist sentiment led to this predicament, I suppose this is as good a place as any.
Scotland's First Minister, Humza Yousaf of the Scottish National Party (SNP) has resigned after less than 13 months in office.
John Swinney emerges as favourite to become leader of party hit by series of damaging crises

Background: the SNP is a social-democratic party, and often takes positions to the left of the main UK parties. It has ruled in a power-sharing agreement with the Greens since mid-2021, with a shared policy platform and ministerial posts for Greens.
Uuuuntil this month, when Yousaf unilaterally ended the agreement and chose to form a minority government instead.
To his surprised-Pikachu-face, the Greens immediately vowed to support a no-confidence motion in retaliation. So the Tories tabled one, all opposition parties supported it, and he lost. Then the resignation. That decision to abandon his allies backfired spectacularly and instantaneously.
There are two leading candidates to succeed him: John Swinney, Deputy First Minister and a past leader of the party; and Kate Forbes, a member of a really socially-conservative Christian church who's held several ministerial posts.
The SNP are expected to lose a
lot of their seats to Labour when the actual election comes (and it must come by, at the latest, January 2025).
