I get really annoyed when people scream out angry hate for Halo on endless loops. People merely saying they don't like the game don't bother me, if it's appropriate in context then people can say that they are non fans and I accept that, people aren't going to always agree with me and I can accept that.
But when people scream out their hatred and declare the entire fanbase as 'sheep' and over simplify the story and indeed create a misrepresentation of the game itself and rant about it, it just annoys me.
It annoys me on youtube when I can't look up a video about Halo without someone angrily mispelling every word in the english language about how crap Halo is. It annoys me when someone can't ever start a thread about Halo, in any way, without at least attracting one person who has to spread their negative opinion on the matter and it annoys me to see videos and articles that in their descriptions of the game are flat out wrong and yet get praised as brilliant for the sole purpose of this article bashing Halo.
I just get sick of people claiming to be more mature and intelligent than 'those damned Halo fanboys' always being the first ones to leap into the depths of immaturity and go out of their way to ***** and moan about a video game.
Likewise I tend to get really shitty when, and I know this is nerdy even for me, people oversimplify some of my favourite characters in games. In particular Ashley Williams of Mass Effect. She's actually my favourite female character in Mass Effect but damn if I'm ever brave enough to say that on the Bioware forums. A common (admittedly easy to make) misconception about her opinions on aliens and suddenly she's a 'racist xenophobic bith' and everyone is over simplifying her and the second I say I liked her I get spammed with hate mail.
Like I said before, opinion is opinion and I have no problem with people thinking different to me about which character they like the most but Christ when a person is spreading misinformation they are still spreading misinformation regardless. Namely, I am astounded as to how many people think that when Ashley used the 'when you are fighting a bear and your only option is to sick your dog on it and run' that she was comparing the alien races to dogs. In reality she was saying that the Council looked on humanity the same way a hunter looks at his dog, sure they may care for it but if their life is at risk they will still sacrifice the dog because it isn't one of their own species and therefore is still less important.
My point is, I hate it when people over simplify things. Ashley isn't a racist, she had prejudices yes but that's because of her past and if you pursue the right dialouge that can turn around. While I know she isn't everyone's cup of tea in my own opinion she was well written and believable with flaws and likeable qualities thrown in as well.
Yet people, who constantly demand more believable and flawed female characters in games, then dedicate hours of time to bitching about her. It annoys me.
But still that's nothing compared to how angry I get when people over simplify the Elites in the Halo games... still I won't go into detail or I'll be typing this until the turn of the century.
Wow, that was some pretty heavy nerd ranting. Glad to have that out of my system.
