And if nobody in the office is interested, maybe don't cover it.
But then they won't get all the views or the clicks! Then they'll make some excuse about how they don't have a choice, or that's the way it is. All the more ironic, because gaming journalism already had this figured out years ago in the pre internet & early internet days. If there's a game they didn't want to cover, they usually didn't cover it. Though only if it was a niche game or mid-budget game at the time. You had some that didn't cover big budget games, but that became rarer and rarer by the time of the PS2, XBOX, and GameCube era.

Though that's an entire discussion on it's own whether it's better for reviewers to be fans or outsiders of a type of game.
If anything, The Game informer Silent Hill 2 review, is why you don't pick somebody that's completely outside of their gaming comfort zone, and hates the survival horror genre. There were second and third opinions added later on, but in the original issue for that review, the idiot gave the game a six out of 10. SH2 ain't perfect, but it sure as hell ain't a six or five.

I guess that's fair. You wouldn't want to ask me to review a sports game because I've played like 3 sports games in my life and i'm pretty sure they were all on the NES so my opinion would be "I guess this is okay. It's a sports. It does sports as a video game" and then get hate mail for the rest of my life.

That does have the issue of the reviewer is already a fan of said games and thus writing from a Fan perspective, but that's an entire discussion on it's own whether it's better for reviewers to be fans or outsiders of a type of game.
It shouldn't be a discussion. It should be obvious that a fan writing about a series is the better choice because they are reviewing from a place of familiarity and knowledge which lets people who that the next entry in the series is doing more of what they wanted.

Not to mention there is nothing that says they can't make a follow-up article which discusses the game from a different viewpoint.

Basically no reason for debate. Do BOTH. double articles means more clicks.

I miss the days when publications specialized.

Websites like RPGparadise which would cover only rpgs.
Speedgamers which only covered racing games.

There was passion then, before business got involved because with all things.....once something becomes work passion is ultimately lost.

I saw these this morning. I'm very much looking forward to Friday and a long weekend of just driving and doing the Dark souls of driving tests (aka the gold on the liscenses)

I think I'm the only person around here excited for this game though so i dunno if I'll do an impressions on it or not. Depends on if i have anything to say about it.
Please at least say if they fixed the audio to sound more like oh idk, and actual muscle care than a wet fart in a soggy paper bag like the last six fugging games.

I know Marty Silva(?) was talking on one of podcasts(I think last week's breakout) about when he worked at IGN that's what they apparently did, where the people most interested in a game were the ones to review it because they're already familiar with the genre and know how such games work, and when most reviewers get like a week or so to play a game before reviewing it, that's a plus. That does have the issue of the reviewer is already a fan of said games and thus writing from a Fan perspective, but that's an entire discussion on it's own whether it's better for reviewers to be fans or outsiders of a type of game.
Maybe that’s also why they dish out so many 9/10’s, 10/10’s lol. Or on the off chance they really give a game a shit score maybe the interested person was still playing/reviewing another game and they had to get someone that didn’t care.

Thanks for this. Also I never really thought of it before but damn it really looks like Kratos has either the tired eyes of a demigod that’s been through complete Hades several times, or it’s just a lot of eye shadow.

Also good on Max for calling out Capcom’s bs.

Videogame ads in Thailand are a mystery box full of riddles. At what point is it clear which game they are promoting?

I figured it out once they shattered the ring but yeah, that was pretty long.

Ironically, I like it better then this one.

I can only imagine once the scene was done, something like this played out.

Ming Na Wen(looking at the script): What the Fuck is an Elden Ring? What is a Tarnished?
*Gets her phone out*
Ming Na Wen: I'm gonna have to talk to my agent about signing me up for these weird commercials.

Hah, yeah I agree, there's a noticeable sincerity in the Thai ad while the American one just sounds like a typical cheesy US videogame advert from the 90s. Also, just a personal taste thing, but one of the main defining joys through all soulsborne games are the consistent creepy variations of British accents that makes every NPC a wonderous yet unsettling encounter, like they're all heavy breathing through coarse lustful whispers. A confident American promotional accent just sounds jarring in comparison.
