Game ruined by its fans

I don't have a single community come to mind. Any game you play you are going to have somebody somewhere trying to ruin it. The COD BF flamewar is kind of annoying, but doesn't ruin either game for me. I can plug in MW2and enjoy myself, or BFBC2 and enjoy myself. The only reason I am not really a fan of COD anymore is because they are releasing the same game AGAIN, and I really dont want to waste my money on re-purchasing mw2. I'm not saying it will be bad, Im saying it's the same thing, just a little more balanced.

But letting them ruin a game is just silly. If you enjoy a game, but there is an annoying person in the match, mute them! Even if I play Bad Company 2 and go into a server where it's 100% people spamming rockets, I can still have fun. I could join in by grabbing myself a rocket, i could also leave and find a new server. If a person can bother you so much that you no longer enjoy a game, you need to step away from the games for a little bit.

Apart from almost every multiplayer game I can think of 2 more.

Skyrim fans, all that "ooh its gonna be so epic! squee squee squee" is really annoying, no other game seems to make people take leave of their senses quite so much.

Diablo fans, or rather non fans who wont stop screaming about how the sky is falling- maybe, maybe not, common sense dictates that reserving judgement is probably a good idea, considering Blizz almost never fail to deliver.

Portal fans. It's like they aren't satisfied unless they've robbed the series of any humor it once had by spamming "cake" and "combustible lemon" jokes EVERYWHERE. Damn their hides.

I've also come to despise the trading community in Team Fortress 2. All they care about is amassing cosmetic items that serve no real purpose. They obsess over arbitrary "pricing charts," and absolutely refuse to give you anything unless you give them practically half your backpack. Fortunately they tend to populate special trading servers, so they're usually easy to avoid.

Lastly, there's the Xbox Live community as a whole (yeah I know it's not a specific game, but I think it counts). I always mute the microphone completely unless I'm playing with people on my friends list.

Okay, I wouldn't say I would agree that any game or fandom has been ruined by it's fans offhand.

I would say that there are some particularly bad fans common of Kingdom Hearts though. I like yaoi. I like Kingdom Hearts. I wouldn't say I like Kingdom Hearts yaoi because that would make me look like a certain bear. Or a certain cat, to be more accurate.

But the Kingdom Hearts fanbase does have some very trying people. Even if you like Kingdom Hearts. Even if you like Kingdom Hearts a lot. Even if you yaoi. Even if you like shotacon yaoi. Because the main unappeal of Kingdom Hearts today, is not shotacon yaoi for shotacats. It is often unbelievably loud, obnoxious, and ignorant people. Every bit as annoying as the worst of the Naruto fanbase.

I am okay with grown women drooling over boys that will probably still look like kids when they're finally called 22 in the games. Not because of their gender, but because it is just fiction. What annoys me, is frequent, obnoxious ignorance. I wouldn't even degrade the word "fangirl" by applying some of their speech to it. I mean, drool over Sora and Roxas all you want. As long as you're not a threat to actual... yeah. But speak something that actually resembles that human language. And don't just wallow in ignorance.

About the only multiplayer game that the fans HAVEN'T ruined has been Myst Online (mostly because your typical game-ruining fan wouldn't touch Myst Online with a forty foot pole).

Minecraft has also narrowly avoided fan-ruin - literally. Remember the "Entitlement Site Takedown", where some twat took down minecraft.net because he wasn't getting updates fast enough?

dunno if hackers count as fans, but if so, then maplestory. i only just got back into it again to find out that theres like at minimum 50-70 hackers in various maps and channels nonstop hacking FOR DAYS ON END. i mean, seriously... its like Nexon dont even try....

but if hackers DONT count. then probably APB Reloaded. The customisation is fantastic, and the players are fun sometimes, but more often or not its either "win or the games boring" in their opinion, so they dont give a shit if youre just having a bad day, or got unlucky, or its something theyre doing thats making you bad. if you have a low KDR, apparently youre shit useless forever.

Yeah, it's just the multiplayer games usually that can easily ruin a game's image. I do agree that Halo is, unfortunately, one of them. It's a fantastic and very well designed FPS, but the morons on XBL are downright despicable and juvenile.

So yeah, I end up playing the campaign and co-op modes, where people don't behave like 10 year olds.

Do what I do and click the option to mute everyone except people I'm in a party with, my actual friends.

So what I can't point out a single flaw without being a hater now?

Most MMO fanbases have ruined the idea of playing those games. Whilst I have sworn off them, I used to play Perfect World, until scammers and sellers ticked me off.

The Minecraft playerbase is pretty damn terrible. Have you looked on the forums there? Damn those guys are messed up. Most time I spend there is just in the server section. Though the absolute worst moment for them was when Minecraft Xbox was announced. The pure rage that over 80% of the population had in response was just sad. I laughed at the line that kept coming up that said the Xbox fanboys will ruin the forums.

Not enough to put me off of the game, but definitely enough to make me hide with my close group of friends.

Team Fortress 2.

Given that the game puts giant coloured arrows and signs around the maps telling you where to go, it's amazing the number of people who just wander around aimlessly. I'm all for team gameplay, just so long as my team isn't "pants-on-head retarded" as some wise man once said.

Definately World of Warcraft...their fans are just retards. 'It's the best game ever created!' they cry. No, it's the most expensive game ever created. 'It's deep and immersive!' they cry. No, it's more boring and time consuming than real life. Ill add all MMO's as an afterthought because they have the same over zealous dedication that paying for a game over and over again generates.

Dragon age and Mass effect fans (ill lump them together because they share the same braincell). Good looking average games don't deserve the frothy knickers these games cause. Someone suggested the other night that Mass effect 3 should get game of the year...it isn't even fucking out yet!?!

Call of Duty, not because of the fans but because of the haters who i doubt have even played it since Modern Warfare 2, which was good. It's embarrasing what some people say lol. No insight, only opinion.

I like these games (not WoW, it's dog shit but worth a mention) but it's embarrasing to mention it because the lines are so clearly set. Either your a fanboy or a hate filled troll. I kinda expected better from a games community like the escapist but it seems fuckwitted retards are the same wherever you go...if you aren't sure who i'm talking about then it's you!

but rant aside i don't play multiplayer simply because all i get from most other people is that i suck because i don't spend all day every day playing the same game. i have given up most shooters simply because i play too many different games to be good enough at shooters competitively. i didn't work an 8 hour day at a crappy job just to come home to listen to some 12 year olds (physically and mentally ) as they whine about how I'm not a master at what game they are playing. id like them to play devil may cry just once so their ears hurt for once.
