I second this. And don't try and deny it, there's not a person around who doesn't like whacking zombies.
totally. Maybe you should wait for L4D2. Otherwise, you should maybe try Fallout 3. It's a bit grim and doesn't have multiplayer, but it's still fucking awesome.

I'm ashamed to say that at one point, my gf was actually better than me at fable...
She's a big fan of the sims and more 'casual' games usually, but fable really seemed to suck her in somehow.. Before I knew it she had 3 husbands (who she then killed.. Worryingly).

Thankfully I regained my gaming 'honour' by kicking her ass at CoD4 shortly afterwards :)

Resident Evil 5 is a good one, but you might want to skip the cutscenes. I nearly bled out my ears and smashed my head against a wall when I heard the most terribly written dialogue come out of both Sheva and Chris's mouths. Killzone 2 had some bad dialogue, but at least it was original. RE5 is just bad dialogue all the way around.

Your girlfriend might take to it, but it could be a challenge. I haven't got my sister to play it, and she likes horror flicks. But I know a friend of mine who is a girl and she and her boyfriend had a lot of fun with Left 4 Dead, actually. She was stoked when playing it, and she rarely plays anything. Nothing sprouts romance like shotgunning some zombies in the head, apparently.

Halo 3. :p (I know it says 3rd over 1st but it doesn't exclude them and besides Halo 3 is a game that you can't be bored with) Plus, we need more girls/women playing it, too much testosterone and high pitched little kids.

You could try a sandbox game with a co-op mode. I think Saints Row 2 has one; I'm not sure.
Thats a really good idea. Everyone enjoys being a dick without there being consequences. And by the way, this thread brings to mind a video I had just watched. I think all should check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8ZVZRsy8N8

Jesus there's something wrong with you people.

If you managed to get her to a lan or smuggle a second compy into the house, NWN is golden.

Katamari Damacy, addictive and fun for the whole family. Beautiful Katamari is the 360/PS3 version.

Easing her into FPSs takes time and dedication. I am lame as hell at FPSs but since my husband will sit down and pay attentiont o me, I'm pretty easily talked into a few rounds of coop Halo or RE5, but keep the difficulty down, don't get anything that you can die really easily in, and for the love of god, let her do better than you.

Bioshock isn't multiplayer but leave it lying around or let her watch you play to get her a little intrigued with non-maxis creations.

The key here is compromise. I didn't know how much fun it was to pwn my husband at Halo (I am epic with a grenade launcher as it turns out), until he made the deal that if he created some sims on my game and helped me pass a Katamari level, I'd have to play some shootemups with him.

And let her have the shotgun in RE5

I managed to trick my sister into playing Morrowind. She ended up loving it.

She prefers Oblivion though due to the horses (the means by which I had her try Morrowind in the first place). I considered trying to get her to try other genres as well, such as RTS, but that might take effort and, you know, fuck effort for something like that.

All games are for girls and boys, thank you. There is a game like Fable for xbox called Jade empire. It's fun but you play a character not your own.

It sounds to me like she wouldn't be into more traditional violent blast-the-bad-guy games, since the FPS and RTS genres aren't really "female-friendly" (excuse the horrible stereotyping---my wife's FPS skills compared to most guys are the exception that proves the rule).

You're probably not going to get her hooked on Halo, but you could probably get her into Portal. If you've got a PC (and since she likes The Sims, I'm guessing she's played PC games), consider a game like Civilization IV or Sid Meier's Pirates! (or the much better Port Royale 2) or even older games like Tropico. Morrowind is another worthwhile choice (the combat is really incidental to the gameplay and is simple enough that she'll have no real trouble with it), but if you're going to try Oblivion on her make sure to set that difficulty slider all the way to the left at first.

You have to find a game you both would enjoy playing not just games you have played and liked. If she is a techie trust me it easy to get frustrated with those sorts of games, she maybe a rpg fan due to the sheer length of time it takes to complete them.

Next time hit up a blockbuster or something and let her look around she will find a game that catches her eye.

My friend's tried to get his girlfriend into gaming and she's really into 1 vs 100. It's easy, simple and something the both of you can enjoy. There's no learning curve so that's eliminated as a problem. On top of that you can help each other with the questions and have a good laugh when you see other people get simple ones wrong. That's gotta be my #1 recommendation.

Umm, Tales of Symphonia is a good RPG for the PS2. It has co-op battles but single player gameplay. So you could take turns playing and then both play on battles. I don't own a 360 so I can't really recommend any games for that, sorry.

There is no fun or relationship building when you simply walk in and buy a game that got a 90 from Metacritic.

EDIT: Besides it's more fun letting her pick the games rather than a bunch of forum goers choose the games for her. Let her make her decisions on what games to buy.
I don't think you understand, son. The big red arrow points towards a famous program called BitTorrent, that lets you download things other people upload.

Buy a game based on reviews, or forum goers opinions? Nay, only an ignorant fool would toss his money away like that. Download everything you think looks like it might be good, and even things you don't, then play them, and buy whichever of those are worth the money.

Wait, I thought Tales of Symphonia came out for the Gamecube only. It was a multi-platform RPG?
They released a version for PS2 after. I actually played the Gamecube version though.
