My console cost me just shy of 300 euro, a pc that could play the same quality of games would cost well over a grand................i think i can pay for several years of live subscriptions from the difference there. Also a console doesn't need to be constantly updated. Since the last console generation began most people will have gone through two PCs.
I (and most people) play games for fun I don't need the hastle just so that i can claim i'm hard core.
Well actually that is just plain dead wrong. Also having a high end PC does make you hard core where the fuck are you getting that from. Also on PC we enjoy games too otherwise we wouldn't play them. Why does the fact that I game on PC mean I don't enjoy games t hat is a completely pointless eiditon to your argument.
If you are talking about Wii or 360 on so many levels especally on hardware side. Just for 1 example my comp has 4x the ram of a 360. I have gone through 2 PCs in 1 and half console generations so no most normal people have not gone through 2 PCs. From scratch you can make a PC for under 1,000 euro that will last as long as a console. This is where people completely forget about PC is more expensive than console argument you have to actually buy games.
On average I have bought 14 games per year over my life. That is say 10 new games a year. Those 10 new games cost between 10 and 20 euro less on a PC than on console and that is not including Steam sales and other stuff. So over the course of 5 years which is how long said PC would last you would save 500-1,000 euro on games. Also a PC can do 100% from the get go to use a console at 100% capacity you need to buy a HDTV and a Surround Sound. HDTV costing between 200+ for a decent one and Surround Sound can cost over 100 so factor that in your console costs around 600 for starting costs to do what a PC does 1,000 so that is 400 more.
Now through in the 250 for online subs over the 5 years your up to 850. So if you want to go from scratch all you have to go is average out at buying around 3 new games a year/5 years to bring the difference to equal maybe even less.
So I won't argue on the hassle part as that is part of PC gaming which is why we like it for the flexibility. Also PC gaming is not about having top graphics. While we can if we want and have the money that is not what is generally cared about. So taking that in as the point of PC you could spend even less to get a proper gaming computer that would cost about 500-750 and last for about 2-3.
Also during the time of the PC the moeny you would save would go to upgrading over time which the only thing you really have to upgrade is graphics card and Ram. Considering that those go for around 100 min for an update each it is really like buying a new console if you want to go for post start up costs. Buying a new console would also cost around 200 so post start up costs(ie already having a gaming PC/ HDTV surround sound) actually remains more or less the same. Only the odd time will you really need to update the processor so overall a PC is equal to in price or cheap than a console.
